A few maimed bodies with strange marks are found on the outskirts of Tokyo. The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine
Four Stars
Dang! This story is crazy. Kiko steps into a world full of murder and cult life. It’s hard to believe that people fall for what anyone says. When her former colleague turns up dead Kiko joins the cult to try and uncover what’s going on. This story had me intrigued from beginning to end. I loved the ninja scene Kiko was seriously bad to the bone. Don’t mess with a woman who can use a knife. The author packed this story with a lot of culture and growth. You can really see her growth from book one. I liked that I couldn’t guess what will happen. The story has a very nice flow and wasn’t unnecessarily wordy.
This is not the usual type of book that I read. But something drew me to this book and I am glad I read it. It was a short and sweet novella about honour. It is fast paced and is jam packed full of everything a novel has, just shorter.
I loved the plot and suspense at every corner. It was brilliant being on the journey with Kiko. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese way if life that was incorporated into this book. I love learning about other cultures.
Definitely recommend this series.
The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller ( The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine. This book is not usually one I would read but thought I would step out of my box and I’m so glad I did. I was afraid it being the 2nd book in a series I would be lost but I caught on really quick. Kiko Ochisan is a dismissed spy agent who left on good terms. She has decided she is more interested in her swordsmanship than trying to catch criminals. She finds herself getting sucked back into the spy game when a fellow co-worker is murdered. She is determined to find out who committed this crime. She doesn’t realize she is getting involved in something so much deeper than just a murder. I loved this book and I’m going back to read the first one. Read The Black Lotus Affair to see if Kiko finds who murdered her friend and if she survives the Cult she uncovers.
The Black Lotus Affair by Luna Vine is the second book in the Kiko Ochisan Adventures series. It was well written and the characters were developed perfectly. I enjoyed the book but felt easily distracted while reading it. That probably has a lot more to do with me and my week than the book.
Kiki is awesome, a strong female character who isn’t afraid to fight and get her hands dirty. Not does she get them dirty in this book.
I have not read the first book in the series and feel like I should go back and read it then re-read this one when life isn’t quite so crazy. I think you should give this series a chance.
5 Star

I truly enjoyed this book as much as the first book in this series. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. Kiko is a strong woman who is also smart I loved her character because I see myself in her character. She’s a woman who once she’s started something shes determined to see where it leads her.Clus that are found she puts them together as if there puzzle pieces. I loved that it was fast paced and at times had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. I highly recommend this book as well as the first book in this series. I can’t wait to see what she brings us next.
The Black Lotus Affair
A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller
Book 2
By Lina Vine
This is a thriller short story. An adventure like no other.
Kiko is a ex spy agent, having been dismissed from her job. She decides to take on sword play to enhance her special arts adventures. Deciding on also taking up, yoga she ventures into the underworld of crime. Finding more than she bargained for. Therefore throwing herself back into the detective world. Can she get murderer and stop the crimes?
Lina Vine has written this informative thriller story with plenty of action. I love this story as well as Kiko. For nothing stops her adventuring into trouble. Knowing the arts or saving the friends she makes. Job well done Lina Vine! I’m looking forward to see where Kiko goes next. As well as the adventure your story will put her on.
This is book 2 of a series and it is my opinion that book 1 should be read first.
Form the cover art to the written story, this book is visually appealing. This is a full bodied story packed into a few pages and is written in a style that doesn’t get bogged down in description and repetitive details.
I recommend this story and this series.
This book was a great thriller! It’s the second book in the series and currently my favorite book in the series! It was what I feel what I was missing a little from the first was more back story on the main character as a person. You see a little more as you read and get flung along through the book. It’s a fast pace always moving book. It keeps you at the edge of your seat and you want to read more. The author shows great attention to the detail and she is such a very talented writer. Now I need the next one!
As a second book this lived up to the high expectations set out by the first. I love how the author has combined a dooms day cult with black magic and swords. This book is well written and is easy to understand. The author allows you to make a connection with Kiko from a reader’s perspective.
I am excited to read the third book in this instalment.
In the Black Lotus Affair: The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series book #2, we get a whole lot more of Kiko. The first time I had read anything from Lina Vine was with the first book in the series. I enjoyed that one as well, and it lead me to here. This was a good book, with adventure, drama, great majestic world-building, and more. I love that I feel like I am right there with Kiko as she experiences her surroundings. This is what kept me going on with a genera that I normally wouldn’t devour so feverishly. Lina Vine does a wonderful job of painting this story with her words.
Kiko Ochisan was introduced to us in the novella, The Land of The Crane. She found herself a bit in the last book and now she is trying to put her skills as an investigator into work. She is pulled into the mystery surrounding some pretty nasty murders happening in Tokyo. Somehow this will find a way to connect Kiko and she will finally realize why it was she was drawn to the mystery from the get-go. There is a lot going on, and things get more exciting when the Black Lotus Society comes into play. As much as is going on, I was not ever confused and the story flowed flawlessly together. I look forward to what will come next in the series and where we will find Kiko in it.
The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine is the second book in her Kiko Ochisan Adventure series. As good and as gripping as the first this book takes you right back into the life of Kiko.
Kiko is still on the outs but is more than happy refining her swordsmanship skills. She doesn’t care about the maimed bodies turning up outside of Tokyo. Even if they do bare strange marks on each of them. She is happy to go about her days as they are.
That is until one of the bodies turns out to be that of her old colleague. Unable to stay away with this knowledge burning in her Kiko finds herself drawn back into the life she thought she had left behind. Will she be able to uncover the murderer? And will she figure out what they symbols mean?
This book has certainly done the first book justice. Just as fast paced as the first I found myself reading so quickly as I just had to know what happened. The twists kept coming and I could never tell who I thought would be behind the bodies. A very good follow up to book one.
The Black Lotus Affair (Kiko Ochisan Adventures #2) by Lina Vine is a fast pace action mystery, that had me hooked just as much as the first book.
I am loving this series, though the books are fast reads, this one coming in at 133 pages, it didn’t feel rushed or underdeveloped. If you haven’t read the first book, I suggest you do, just to get to know Kiko, but this book does read sort of like a stand-a-lone. But as I said, these are short reads so reading the first book won’t take much time.
Kiko is fast becoming a super fav character of mine. She got everything I love in a MC, and she had this, spark about her that draws you in. In this book as she weaves and unravels the mystery, we see another side of her, and we see more of that outstanding character emerge. She is truly the bada** star of this seres.
Since this is a short read, and when I say fast pace, it moves you through the plot in such a fluid motion, that you are at the end before you know it. To keep this mystery a shock and surprise I’m going to reframe from taking about the plot/story. What I am going to stress is that this book, this series, is a must read. We are taken out of a normal setting, to a foreign land. The lush and rich detail makes you believe you’re in Japan with Kiko. We get a taste of the culture along side the twisty turny mystery.
What that said, please take my super high recommendation that as I have said, this is a must read. You’re engaged from the first words, and it keeps that engaging tempo, making you flip pages and just be, submerged in the story.
Happy Reading

What an interesting and different type of book. The Black Lotus Affair is the second book in the series. It was an energetic and edgy. Lina Vine takes you on an adventure that was like a roller coaster ride! The suspense will keep you on your toes! I found the Japanese culture to be extremely interesting and captivating!
I continue to be mesmerized by this author’s work. I immediately was immersed into this book set in Japan and appreciated the level of detail provided to the reader. My only complaint was that the book wasn’t longer. The plot pace was steady and the characters were well developed. I continue to enjoy this series and look forward to reading more from this author.
I give The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine, 5 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book one.*
Kiko is back in the next installment of the series. She has accepted termination of her previous career, instead focusing balancing her soul. But it looks like old habits die hard. When she finds out that a former co-worker was brutally murdered, she is determined to find out just what happened and who did it. Little does she know just how deep it really goes.
To me, this book is even better than the first one. Kiko continues to grow as a person, and there is so much mystery and suspense throughout the story. It is a thriller/spy book set in Japan. Very well written, it pulls you in from the beginning and does not stop until the end. This series is like nothing I’ve ever read before and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.
If you like action/suspense books with a strong female lead character, this book is for you.
I started my journey with Kiko in The Land of the Crane and am so happy to continue her journey with The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine.
I enjoy strong women. Women who are able to take charge and do as it’s needed. In this book, Kiko is thrown into the mystery of murdered bodies. I love that there is quite an amount of adventure, mystery and suspense. I loved that the mystery that Kiko is continues with this book. She continues to grow as an individual and woman.
Once again, I was impressed with the author’s ability to mold words that the reader can get lost with. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author. This was definitely a 4 Star Book!
The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine is very well-written and it shows in the narrative. The narrative is laid out clearly but not so much that it makes the reader feel stupid. Kiko as a dismissed spy agent is a wonderful protagonist. The other characters are also well written and it shows. There’s never any break in character or dialogue. My only fault with this is that it ends a little too abruptly for my liking and doesn’t answer all of my questions.
A great read about honour. When Kikos colleague Mazue is found dead, she resolves to find out what happened. Using her espionage skills and talents with a sword, she unravels a mystery that goes beyond one death. Will she be able to discover the truth before it’s too late?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. The suspense was done brilliantly, to keep you reading to find out the answers together with Kiko. This with fast paced action and high stakes made for a captivating read.
Well developed characters like Kiko going for what she wants but also honouring her friends memory or Tadsaki following his beliefs. I loved the addition of Japanese culture and language and food to the novel which was a great addition and was written beautifully with respect. And even with the minimalist descriptions of the settings were written perfectly with beauty in small details. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine is a fanastatic compliment to In the Land of the Crane. I do recommend reading the first book as it will help enhance the story line. In this installment we picked up with Kiko’s fast pace adventure. This will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a short story, but it still has you on a roller coaster ride the entire time. Once you start your adventure with Kiko you will lose track of everything else. I recommend this story.
