WHAT A WAY TO START A NEW SERIES! The Black Knight’s Captive by Anna Markland is the first book in her new series The FitzRam Family Dynasty and what a start! I love the history that Anna puts in her book and learning new things as well as a good romance. The Saxony war was sone that I was not familiar with and I found this to be totally fascinating. It pulled me in from page one to the very end. The romance between Dieter and Blythe sizzled and I found both characters very charming. If you have not read an Anna Markland book you are in for real treat. This story has a lady in waiting who can not marry, a child princess, war, a hero, treason, kidnapping, a plot gone wrong, victory and love at first sight. This book has it all and I am highly recommending you read this book. It was FANTASTIC!!!!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Blythe FitzRam was a lady in waiting to Princess Matilda, daughter to King Henry, and she had been betrothed to Heinrich, King of Germany. Matilda was nine and Heinrich was in his late twenties! Now Blythe was having to make the trip to Germany, even though her father tried to have them release her to come home. Can you imagine? Plus the ladies in waiting could not marry so she was doomed!
Once they reached their destination, Blythe was attending the princess as she greeted all the people that had line up to see her. Her gaze fell on a tall dark haired man dressed entirely in black with a white cape hanging from his shoulders. This was her first glance of Count Dieter von Wofenberg and she could not stop thinking of him.
But Deiter and his friend Lothair became part of Heinrich’s escort as they traveled with the princess and he could not help but take every opportunity to flirt with Blythe.
There was a lot going on in this amazing story. Political intrigue being one of the main back stories with the opposition of the Saxons to Heinrich’s rule.
I could not wait to find out what would happen with Blythe and Deiter and how they would end up together. Anna Markland weaves a tale that has an abundance of history that makes you feel you are there and watching the scenes unfold. Prepare to sit back and take time, because you will not be able to put this one down until you turn the last page!!!

Dieter Von Wolfenburg is a Saxon nobleman engaged in the fight against a tyrannical Emperor. This is a war torn episode in European history. The Roman empire is still trying to regain control. Our hero is just trying to protect his people.
Lady Blythe FizRam is one of the ladies in waiting to the child betrothed to a foreign noble who sees himself as the next Emperor of Rome. Our heroine didn’t want to follow her mistress abroad but couldn’t get out of it.
There is a lot of of political intrigue and adventure ahead for our characters. The nobles of the time often had no say in what they or their families had to do. Betrothing children to a foreign noble was common.
This story is as usual for this author, full of fascinating history and believable characters. If you have read any of her books before you might recognize the family a the heart of this one. A marvelous story that will draw you in from the first page to the last.
I loved it.
