“I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed.” The Bitter Taste of Betrayal written by CeeCee James is a delightful mystery! I enjoyed the sassy banter between friends Elise and Lavina. The best friends are going on a cruise to St Croix and are excited about all the fun aboard a floating party…or maybe not so much for Elise. Lavina has invited Elise to join her on this cruise and Elise is a bit hesitant, but decides it is time for some fun.
The beginning of the book will hook you and you know the storyline is going to involve some mysterious shenanigans onboard during the cruise. It starts for Elise as she is standing in the boarding line waiting to be admitted when a very creepy guy bumps into her and acts as if he knows her. During reading this story you will meet two eccentric senior ladies, twins Mabel and Marla, a millionaire, a host of Elvis and Marilyn look-a-likes, suspicious business men and women, and very needy cruise staff.
The story is written with such fun snipes between Lavina and Elise until I could not help but laugh. I look forward to reading more adventures with these two friends!
5 stars
I purchased a copy of The Bitter Taste of Betrayal {Angella ke Mystery #2} by CeeCee James and this review was given freely.
The Bitter Taste of Betrayal is the second in the Angel Lake Cozy mystery Series. Unlike the initial installment, this novel takes place on a cruise ship. But instead of the relaxing vacation .her best friend Vi has planned, chaos ensues. Naturally our heroine Elise picks up on the clues others miss and almost gets killed solving the mystery. The subtle irony and the references to both women’ significant others complete the story forming it into a well round and enjoyable novel.
I read the series out of order, but I have enjoyed each one. They are light reading that’s entertaining. The relationship between the 2 ladies is often humorous but always loyal. Just enough mystery to occupy my mind without having to wade through tons of graphic violence and swearing. Thanks for the enjoyable read!
Really enjoyed the characters.
Love this author!
I did not like this book it was an easy read
weak plot, not too believeable
Easy reading book but not without a good story and a little mystery along the way. (Would love to know who is Mr. G)
Definitely has some interesting twists and turns so I could not guess the outcome. I was glad the ending was a happy and satisfying one.
A great book to read (and a great author) when you need to escape from a stressful day …. and cup of tea and CeeCee!
I can remember details of this book because I have read too many since I read it. But I do remember liking it very much, so I recommend it. Wish I had written sooner.
Love characters. The story very good!! Must read!!!
I love all of CeeCee James’s books so far….
Bought other books by this author. Thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery.
Boring, simplistic writing. Storyline very shallow. I was somewhat disappointed as I was really looking forward to reading this series of stories. It didn’t hold my attention and I found myself skimming through many pages. Not one of my favs.
Cute, no sex. Fun, entertaining crime solving.
Last book in series. Must read others first.
Did not like this book. Did not finish it.
An enjoyable cozy mystery but nothing outstanding.
boring and juvenile
