I love fairy tale retellings! This is a great twist on Cinderella, with a contemporary western setting. So fun! I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline.
Stone and Ella are a great match! Both have such giving hearts. They had their secrets, but at the same time were open and honest with each other. Sounds like a contradiction, I know.
Ella always sees the good in others. Always! Which is a very good trait, but it drove me crazy when it came to Lucinda. I was on Hank’s side there.
It was fun to meet Stone’s brother and sister, who have their own books in the series. I can’t wait to read them now!
The book was nicely written, but predictable.
Unrealistic, but well written
Romantic, easy quick read, relaxing. Solid writing!
“At the Stroke of Midnight” is loosely based on the Cinderella story–and I mean loosely. I love fairytale romances and spin offs of them so I was drawn to this book. The main character lost her mother and father and does not have a good relationship with the step-mother or step-sister. That’s about as strong of a connection to the Cinderella story as it gets–other than Ella’s wish coming true at the stroke of midnight (there is no lost shoe).
I will say this story worked for me. This story is secular in nature but a clean romance. I appreciate not having to skip over language and inappropriate scenes. However, if you are looking for biblical integration, this story is not for you.
The reason I gave it only 4 stars was because it took several chapters before I was hooked into the story. Also, I felt that Ella and Stone’s relationship was not developed. It lacked connection between the two at times and I felt that they jumped into a proposal too abruptly. Other than their relationship, most characters were interesting and realistic. The story was predictable yet enjoyable.
This was a cute twist on the classic tale of Cinderella. In fact, it wasn’t really like Cinderella in most ways. The characters had that honest candor that I enjoy so much in relationships. The main character ONLY sees good in people! The dashing prince has a hard decision to make in regards to his choices in life and his future. Will love win out? You may be surprised by the ending, I could not put this book down, it just kept drawing me in until the plot finally worked itself out!
OKAY
Great summer read, perfect for a lazy afternoon. Breaks the formula by adding a couple of good plot twists and detailed characters. Made me smile.
Excellent story line. Realistic characters. Could not put it down.
I loved this book, and this author. Clean, romantic and a little suspense. I would love a the story to continue on.
A great read with an interesting twist on the Cinderella story. Very entertaining
Just a fun read all around
Started but it was too mundane and predictable so quite boring so stopped reading when it implied her step mom could contact her college that was wrong and somewhat deceptive
