A couple finds an antique mirror that isn’t broken, but still brings bad luck—“MacLeod can be counted on for a witty, literate, and charming mystery” (Publishers Weekly). According to Max Bittersohn, he and Sarah Kelling have witnessed enough murder and unhappiness, so it’s high time they got married. And though Sarah hasn’t yet agreed to such drastic measures, she invites Max to summer with her … Max to summer with her at Ireson’s Landing. But they haven’t been in the house ten minutes when they stumble upon summer’s first mystery—a mint-condition, antique Spanish mirror that is tremendously rare and valuable. Sarah has never seen it before and she doesn’t know how it ended up in the summerhouse, but the sleuthing couple will soon find this looking glass to be more troublesome than anything Lewis Carroll ever invented. As the zany Kelling clan descends on Ireson’s Landing, Sarah and her beau try to uncover the mystery of the Bilbao looking glass—a quest that is disrupted when a vicious next-door neighbor is found hacked to death with a woodshed ax. By summer’s end, Sarah and Max will learn that some murders can be solved simply by looking in the mirror.

Wish she had lived longer and written more of these.
This is a lovely sorta cozy, but it was a fun read.
It was a cozy read
I found the story confusing. Too many silly character names and no true plot definition. Not sure I would read another from the series.
The late Charlotte MacLeod is a marvelous storyteller. Be sure to read every book available to you.
Love all of Charlotte MacLeod books. This book and her others are a bit quirky and get you to look a life a little differently. Thay were written before cell phones and show you how solving cozy’s were done before. This one explores the spoiled yacht set and deceptions are revealed of chromes past ant present
Not my favorite time period.
Tedious. too slow
I liked this whole series of books . They were fun with mystery and whimsical thrown in.
The blatant anti-semitism was so off putting that I am not in the least interested in reading anything else by this author.
My All Time Favourite Mystery Series with Max and Sarah
Charlotte MacCloud is a writer of quite a few entertaining plots with lovable characters. Is this literature? Nope. However, they have various characters who are interesting and quirky. Easy and amusing reading — good relaxation between serious novels.
Love this series!
Nice readable mystery with original characters!
charming and unpredictable great twist at the end.
If you know New England this series is a delight as it jumbles together Boston Brahmins, Jewish intellectuals, lobstermen, antique merchants and other quirky characters in a good natured cozy with a dash of romance.
Great mystery series for those who like cozies. Witty and clever.
This book is one of a great cozy mystery series. I have all of them and read the series every couple of years. I love Charlotte MacLeod.
Need a score card to keep track of family relationships. Not as fun as some others in series.
A great series!
