What can I say? I just loved it! I was keen to read it, couldn’t wait. When I started I couldn’t stop.
There was everything for me in this book. I was laughing, I was crying, I was excited. I love muscle-cars and motorbikes so this book was must read for me.
This is first book from Kate I have read but after this I intend to reach for more of her books.
I love the way she writes. I love how she build the story and the way all her characters are. This book made me want to go to the next page and I wished it never ends.
I hope that Kate will write books with Fox and Echo and we can still have Ace and Kelly around.
**Five “She isn’t just sweet and funny, she’s wild and unruly. She has a heavy heart, a messy soul, and a reckless mind. She’s an all or nothing girl. If I want to take this any further, I have to either back off or dive in and swim my ass off. So like an idiot, I dove.” // “…now I got the ace of hearts in the palm of my hand. She’s my trump card.” Stars**
This is my first book by Kate McCarthy, but sure it won’t be the last. I instantly fell in love with writing, setting, characters and that cliffy intriguing Prologue which instantly pulled me into the story and left me wanting more, to find out what will happen next. This book was such a wonderful surprise with witty situations, comments and banter and full of heart and steam. I love that it was written in dual POV which are interchanging. The author does an amazing job of portraying the characters, bringing a reader into their heads and following happenings along the characters. It was angsty, a little forbidden romance, emotional, witty, romantic, suspenseful – all the elements that mesh together well and bring you an amazing story.
Arcadia “Ace” Jones comes from a family of thieves and cars fanatics. She’s the best in the business but she’s trying to retire and get on the legal side. I love Arcadia, she’s such a smart, sassy and snarky person with a heart of gold but also vulnerable. She loves cars; I think they are her passion because she lights up when she talks about them.
Kelly “Shade” Daniels is a member of the motorcycle club “The Sentinels”. He might be a badass with gruff and hardened exterior but underneath “lies a heart as deep and as wide as the ocean”. Loving, caring, brave, strong and understanding but also vulnerable. He loves to tinker with cars. His life wasn’t easy and he lost a lot.
OMG I am so in love with this book and the characters ( and secondary ones), especially with Kelly and Arcadia. First I adore their names so much Second loved that both had similar backgrounds/past and that they needed to make peace with it and deal with it so they can move forward. I loved how they just couldn’t stay away from each other even if they wanted to; but the pull between them was too strong. They just clicked from the start and had chemistry off the charts. Love how Kelly was protective of Arcadia but also supportive of her. Loved the way they met and the flirty, witty banter between them. The way their relationship developed was incredible: their growth is shown. Both were battling with the feelings and realization they were falling for one another but afraid to admit because neither of them thought they deserve love or to be loved; both harboring so much guilt for different reasons given their past. And then when they are in the room together they are perfect match, perfect for each other and meant to be. Both are strong and hiding behind hardened, strong, brave personalities but underneath both are vulnerable and have hearts of gold. They can always lean on / count on each other. They remind me of this quote I read somewhere: “In the fight they are lethal, around each other they melt.” Kelly would do anything for Arcadia and vice versa, but when they are around each other they just let down the guard and can be themselves. I loved that they both have a love for cars and their knowledge of them just blew me away. I love that they are both flawed people who accept each other for who they really are. Epilogue was pretty epic.
I’m looking forward to Echo’s book, I love that girl with all her hacking skills and sassiness; also the intriguing ones are the Fox brothers and Ace’s brother Mason (so I’m also expecting their books wink wink)
If you love bikers, alpha males, strong sassy women, amazing friendships, brotherhood, and a story with the heat, wittiness, emotions and suspense this is book for you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The Thief by Kate McCarthy is a complex story of a talented car thief and the biker that tames her wild heart. Told in dual POV between Arcadia “Ace” Jones and the ridiculously hot Kelly “Shade” Daniels. Starting with a young Kelly and delving deep into the family dynamics of Ace and company this book was wonderful.
Sexy times – check.
Romance – check.
Danger – check.
Sexy times – wait, I did that one already 😀
Ace is on a mission to go straight. no more thieving. Her “boss” Tony refuses to let her quit and gives another job to complete or risk losing her family members. Running into Kelly is probably the best thing that could have happened to Ace BUT she doesn’t quite know it yet and watching their story unfold while they are each deciding how to come clean with the other about their pasts helps connect the reader to the character and their flaws.
Kelly has his own issues. An estranged brother, a dark past, and an insatiable need for this wild woman in his life.
Loved this – felt that while it was a standalone perhaps there are other books from this author that, if I had read them, I would be more familiar with secondary characters, but as this is my first book from this author I cannot yet confirm that. This won’t be the last book I read from her though. Enjoy!
