There are two men and one woman. One would say that this is a love triangle story, but actually it is NOT a love triangle story…the way I see it, actually. It was already obvious since the beginning who is the better man, but for those who doesn’t know, it would be fun to keep on guessing. The endgame is not like what most would expect.
What I loved the most about this book is that, it didn’t end up with the heroine getting back together with the first man, whom she had the longest history with. In most books, the heroine would surely ended up with the first man, leaving the second man for good. I’m sure lots of people are rooting for the heroine to go back to her ex-lover which is the first man because many love a second chance romance, but this book is not it. Which is why I really loved this book, because the ending is different. I find that really unique.
Aside from that, I also enjoyed the storyline. It was beautiful and all the talks about stars, constellation, and science really drew me in. I’m a big fan of science and I also love talking about anything science-related like moon, stars, galaxy, constellation, and the universe. The fact that this book has it all really made me enjoy it even more than I already did. It was romantically amazing when man #2 always talks about it with the heroine. That is the type of man you should trust and keep.
The plot is quite simple actually but still very intriguing because it was simply about two men going after the same woman, and it was up to the woman which one she will choose as her better man. It was intriguing because both men are making an effort to get the woman, and the readers can keep on choosing and guessing who will the woman choose. Obviously, there’s only one better man. Nothing is complicated, so don’t stress yourself out even though this type of story can be quite stressful.
Savannah is very kind, she is a selfless woman who will always be there to help other people. She always put others first before herself which can get very sad later on (which I don’t want to spoil). She’s a cool hardworking woman, and even though her living situation is difficult, she still managed to fly over to another state just to make sure those she cares about is safe and okay. She put a lot of effort in making sure everyone she hold dear is in good condition. Those are the things I like about her the most.
Man #1 aka the ex-lover, his role is small but not too small. He is the most unlikable character in this book. I thought he was already at his worst, but he became a lot worser as the story goes on which wasn’t surprising actually. He has a drinking problem so that was why he gotten worse. He can’t even function properly without alcohol on his hand which is so disgusting. I never root for him or even see him getting better. He is one hell of a pretty liar, and I gladly admit that I never trust him since the beginning. He is a toxic and problematic person, and even his dynamic with Savannah is unhealthy. Savannah deserve better than him which she really did at the end.
Man #2 is a gem. He has a very nice attitude, and strong personality which makes him the unique one. I loved how he was so tough despite how hard his life is. He’s a very hardworking person and he deserves so much success. When he thought he wasn’t interesting because his ex once told him that he was boring, I nearly cried. How can someone be so mean? Man #2 is very interesting and I loved how Savannah always told him that she really enjoyed hanging out with him. That makes my heart melt. After reading this book, I agreed that man #2 is the real hero of the story.
The romance between man #2 and Savannah is far more realistic than whatever type of relationship she once had with man #1. Man #1 was her past, and man #2 is her present and also her future. Savannah and man #2 faced a lot of challenges in the story. It was the type of challenge that will break your heart, especially the final few chapters when the story had me crying and thinking the story won’t have a happy ending. I was fooled, and that was a good writing on the author’s part for keeping the suspense.
I loved the progress of the relationship between Savannah and man #2, first they were just two people who shared the same goddaughter, after that they become closer as friends, and lastly they took a chance to become lovers. Both were pretty anxious at first because both got hurt by their previous partners before so it was understandable why they were both very cautious when it comes to a relationship. I admired them for taking another chance at love and isn’t afraid of falling in love, it was very brave of them. Their process of falling in love was smooth and steady, and the development was going so well too. Their romance wasn’t just super steamy and hot, but it was also sweet and beautiful.
The story was full of sweet and steamy romantic moments. It was also full of amazing surprises, emotional moments, some frustrating parts, and a suspenseful bit. This is a journey of two people who fall in love with each other after so many tough life challenges and failed relationships, and how they overcome their fears and made peace with their past so that they can move toward a better future. It was a very beautiful story and yet so emotional.
The Better Man was quite the emotional read!!!!
Love isn’t in the cards for Savannah Peters. She had a relationship that was toxic, and she isn’t sure she will ever find love…that is until she meets Will again, while babysitting for her godchild, Miller. The sparks fly, and it looks like the beginning of something special…until her old love, Victor, whom she thought she put in the past comes back and wants another chance. He tells her he is a different man.
Savannah is such a strong woman, so her being involved in a relationship with Victor surprised me. She turned her back on her mother’s money and made a great life for herself, so allowing Victor to treat her so badly shocked me. I held out hope that she wouldn’t let herself be treated that way again.
Will and Victor are very different, and Savannah loved them because of that. As you can imagine, there is angst and drama, but not too much that it completely overtakes the story. She has to choose who the “better man was for her.” I knew who the better man was, but I hoped Savannah would agree with me…and finally find her happiness. I’m not going to ruin it for you, you will have to find out yourself. Enjoy Savannah’s road to her happily ever after!!!!
An enjoyable and heartfelt story. This was my first time reading this author and although I had not been introduced to the characters, it was not difficult to fall into the story. I really liked how Savannah found her strength, growth and acknowledgment of her worth. Will was a very likable and understanding character. Their chemistry and the draw they had toward each other was undeniable.
A new author and a complex story about emotional abuse, alcohol addiction, and a submissive heroine who doesn’t seem to be able to break out of the cycle. This book was supposed to be a standalone, but I realized that the characters had past histories from previous books. Although it can be read and enjoyed, I did still felt the holes left from not having read those other books. Anyhow, the story can still be enjoyed and the characters were well developed, so I knuckled down to reading.
First off, the characters, Savannah and William, have an uncertainty aura about them. They are both godparents to Miller, who is the daughter of Alex, Savannah’s best friend and Will’s cousin. Although they have met before, they hadn’t interacted before. On this particular weekend, where Alex is doing a temporary teaching position in London and her husband Evan is away on business, both Savannah and Will are babysitting Miller. There’s a hesitance to their sharing of information, to the liking they start to feel for each other.
Since her college days at Duke, Savannah had an off and on relation with Walter Voconik, an NBA player. During their college days, they kept their relation a secret, as he enjoyed all the benefits of being a star basketball player. They broke up after college and he went on to enjoy the life of a professional player, booze and women included. And yet, in spite of all his fame and partying, he keeps calling and messaging Savannah. He’s at times abusive and insulting, other times needy and clinging.
Savannah, who is estranged from her mother and living with her father, is working at her desired job, a marketer. Her mother was pressuring her to marry the heir to an empire for her own personal gain, so she moved away and her mother cut her off from her trust fund. So Savannah is, at the same time, being pressed by her mother to obey her wishes, pressed by Walter who wants her to be his plaything, and oppressed by her college loan debt. She seems to be buffeted on all sides and all she wants is to be loved. And here is where I digress. She has a loving father who is sacrificing for her, working two jobs to help her pay her debts. She has a supportive boss, a job she likes, a loving father and a best friend who has her back all the time. And yet, she doesn’t seem able to cut the ties that fasten her to her past. As she spends time with Will, she’s attracted to him, he gives her the attention and respect she deserves but she doesn’t feel worthy. As for Will, he falls for Savannah but doesn’t feel like he’s interesting enough. As a financial advisor, he thinks he’s boring. Huh?
There are parts of the story that just don’t vibe with me. There was all this talk about who was the better man. Please, there was no contest. Victor is a self-indulging, manipulative jerk, while Will was kind, generous and gentle. I couldn’t believe the hold Victor still held on Savannah and that she was so stupid as to give in to his demands.
On the other hand, I couldn’t believe how little Will thought of himself and how hesitant he was to declare his feelings and go after his girl.
There was a little excessive musing on the book, it felt like it was constantly going in circles, round and round over the same thing, who was the better man, her love for Victor, her increasing feelings for Will, if she deserved such a good man like Will, if she could have loved Victor more and helped him better. All that dithering instead of grabbing fate in her hands. The last quarter of the book was the best part, with all the action and angst that I love in a book.

This is my first book from Len Webster. Savanah choses her freedom over money and she is staying with her father in Vermont. She is caught in a relationship where she is only being used. No matter how much she gives, or how many times she says she is done and then returns, number of years or distance doesn’t matter, she is never free of him emotionally. It’s hard when you don’t put yourself first in a relationship. She is trying to move on, when years later he has the nerve to walk back wanting a second chance.
When Savannah meets someone new, someone who actually treats her with kindness, appreciation, adoration, and like she is someone who deserves to be loved, Savannah’s world opens up to something she’s never had. Now she has a big question on who is he better man?
It’s a journey of self-discovery for Savannah and the choices she has to make even when they may thwart what and who her heart truly desires. She knew who the better man is, but the question is, will she choose him?
Book did have some wonderful poignant moments with Miller. AJ & Evan were lovely. Cute Miller is adorable. Writing style is nice, but it took some time for me to get used to limited third person writing style.
Overall it’s a cute story, but it just seemed awkward at times. It was instantly clear who the better man is between who she has to “choose” from.

The Better Man

*REVIEW*
“She lies and says she’s in love with him. Can’t find a better man. She dreams in color. She dreams in red. Can’t find a better man.” ~”Better Man” Pearl Jam (Vitology,1994)~
Although Len Webster is a new author to me, the scenario she presents in The Better Man is one that many women know well. It happens everyday. In this story, the heroine, Savannah, must, essentially, make a choice. Which man is the better man? Should she settle for what is comfortable and familiar? Should she listen to reason or follow a path based on emotion instead of logic? I won’t delve into her decision and spoil it. I can say the story is a journey of self actualization and reflection for Savannah. What does she want her life to be in all honesty? Finding answers requires growth, maturity and change for Savannah. This sharp and insightfully written story is a great read. The characters might cause a bit of emotional turmoil and heartache for you, but it is all in the name of love. The Better Man is sure to delight readers!
4.5 – 5 Oh My Heart & Stars!!
I could not contain my excitement for this book before the title was even announced! From that point on I couldn’t wait for it to be released and I totally freaked out with happiness when I got to finally read it! I couldn’t put it down! This book ruined me in the best and most beautiful of ways. I loved The Better Man so so much!
Savannah’s journey was every bit unique and far from an easy one. I felt absolutely everything throughout reading with these characters! The emotions poured off of the pages and got me right in the chest. Also, There was a certain character who completely stole my heart.
This is definitely one of my favorites of 2020!
With The Better Man, Ms.Webster has written a book that will leave the biggest mark on your heart and soul! She captured ALL THE FEELS with this unforgettable story! I have the greatest kind of book hangover! I can’t wait to read what releases next!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
For years, Savannah had a forbidden thing with her first love. But he hurt her at every turn and she finally got away. And yet now, years later he has the nerve to walk back wanting a second chance. It sounds easy, right? Except not because there’s someone else now. Which is the better man? I know who it was, and it will be obvious once you read, who he is, and like me, you’ll be cheering!
This is quite a beautiful story. I loved the way Savannah grew, and I especially love that she she chose the man who was better for her, the one who loved her with his whole heart. I won’t give spoilers, so won’t say whom she chooses, but I’ll say this, Savannah’s journey is so beautifully layered, so heart tugging, and quite simply, fabulous. I am so glad I read it because it got me right in the feels. Kudos to Savannah and the better man, the best man, for her.
4.5 Stars
The Better Man was such a sweet story that pulls at your heartstrings. Len Webster is a new to me author that I can’t wait to read more of her work.
Savannah has been in love with a guy who can’t love her back the way she deserves. For some reason she always goes back to him when its coinvent for him. After college graduations she is ready to move on from him and start her new life. She never expected he would come back into her life and finally telling her what she wants to hear.
Her best friend’s cousin shares the role of God parent to their daughter. One weekend they spend some time together and things kind of change for them. They realize what they thought about the other was wrong. They have such a sweet connection and major chemistry. I was really pulling for him after first meeting him.
I love a good love triangle and this one hit the spot.
The Better Man by Lan Wester is my first read by this author. It was the blurb of this book that caught my attention but it was the writing of Len that had me loving this book.
Savannah has a tough choice the basketball star who she has been in love with since Collage or the boring but sweet caring cousin of her best friend. Which one would be her Better Man? I picked the one I hoped it would be after just reading the first three chapters.
My emotions were all over the place with this one and at one point I was holding my breath hoping the book wouldn’t end in a certain way. I highly recommend checking out this book!
Don’t let the idea of this being a triangle story put you off – it’s not. This is a growth story, and it’s beautifully told! The Better Man feels pretty obvious right from the beginning, and the story progresses beautifully and at points painfully – the author pulls zero emotional punches.
I didn’t realize this was part of a larger series, but I’ll definitely be circling back to those!
If you want a story you can really sink into, this is a great choice!
Len has this ability to draw you into her world and make you feel like you’re sitting there living this with all of the characters. The Better Man is no exception – well-written, emotional, and very, very hard to put down. While this had the typical angst and drama, this was also a journey of self-discovery for Savannah. We get to see her grow into a strong woman and realize her own self-worth. While this does have two leading men (that I won’t name because SPOILERS), this is really Savannah’s story. This is a story to root for the heroine and HER life and taking control of it – self-love and self-care. Highly recommend. 4.5/5 stars
You guys! This book was so so good! The Better Man by Len Webster was my first book by this author, but wow! This is book best experienced going into it blind so I shall be vague, but here’s what you absolutely need to know:
1. The writing is spectacular! Beautifully, engaging writing and wonderful characters that effortlessly connect with the reader.
2. Amazing story. Wow. My heart squeezed, jumped, wrenched, ached, and was left feeling so full by the end.
3. Savvy is an amazing heroine. Her growth throughout the story is exceptional. I loved her from the beginning, but I was so proud of who she became by the end.
The Better Man was a fantastic five star read and you guys need to one-click immediately.
4.5 stars
This book is absolutely beautifully written! Len Webster again shows off her talent in writing 3rd POV stories. I know, 3rd POV is not everyone’s cup of tea and I myself always need some chapters to get used to it. But believe me it’s worth it a thousand times!
Even though we’ve met the main characters in the 4 books series “The Science of Unrequited” before, this book is not as angsty as this series. But don’t get fooled, The Better Man will touch you deeply. The characters are full of self-doubt and they are fighting their way through to true love. They feel real, their struggles, specially with themselves are totally relatable.
Reading The Better Man will kidnap you into a universe full of stars, obstacles, possibilities, tears and smiles, all in the name of love!
wow just wow! I was blown away by this story! it was simply beautiful! it was my first time reading this author, so I will keep my eyes open for more of her books!
This review is going to be vague and short. I don’t want to give away anything to do with the characters or the story because this is one of those books that you need to experience for yourself.
Savannah has been badly hurt in the past. From her mother to the guy who she can’t seem to move on from, Savvy has taken more than a few knocks. All she really wants is for someone to see who she really is and to love her for it. I really liked Savannah. She’s a nice, kind genuine woman who deserves more than life has handed her so far. I really enjoyed seeing her character grow and I couldn’t help but feel proud of her for finally realising her worth.
This book definitely worth a read. It’s emotional, it had me wondering what was going to happen next and if I was going to get the ending I desperately wanted (I did!). Another great book from Ms Webster
I had the great honor to beta read this beauty and I just, til this day can’t get over how much I loved these characters.
They both were such sweethearts and I loved how they clicked instantly and how even though it was a slow burn romance, it was a very beautiful way to see them blossom and find each other the way they did. Savannah obviously had been burned before and even though her previous relationship was pretty toxic, she always would run back whenever he would come crawling back to her. Until the day that she said to herself enough is enough and even though it was hard, she managed to keep strong and stay away from that toxic man.
I knew from the get go who my heart belonged to and who I was rooting for and I have to say, Len has such an amazing knack to form her storylines.
Even though this was a standalone it is interconnected with the Unrequited series, I have to say all her characters are AMAZING!
I can’t get enough of Len Webster’s beautiful words!
these characters will forever be in my heart
This story turned out differently then I originally thought it would be based on the synopsis and I loved the way it did. Savannah is caught in a endless loop of her past and her present and also her feelings and viewpoints in herself and I loved her journey while she was finding the better man she realized she deserved the absolute best
This book was different and original. This story is filled with angst, drama, love and emotional. For me this story was about self-discovery, self- worth for Savannah. For choices she has to make what she truly desires. I really liked most of the side characters and their interactions with the main characters in the story. I highly recommend this for those who are looking for something new and refreshing to read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My first read of this author.
This is hard to write as saying too much will ruin the reader’s experience. What do I say what do I leave out.
Ultimately this story is about self-discovery. What are you no longer willing to endure. Saying to yourself and believing you are worth it and are enough. Raising your standards and expectation of how to be treated.
I loved this story, it’s a long slow burn read and I don’t usually like those.
I debated saying this last line but it’s a great love story.
