This is my first book by Mariah Ankenman and it was pretty good. Of course like many romance books it’s totally predictable but really sweet. I am too a mother of twins so I loved that touch. I’ll just say I want to do Finn too!
This is the first thing I have read by Mariah Ankenman and I found it because of TikTok of all things! I am so glad I stumbled onto her TikTok and videos about this book. It was amazing. I love friends to lovers tropes and this was very well done. Pru and Finn have been friends forever with both denying the fact there was anything other then friendship between them. When Pru decides to have a baby and be a single mother the lat thing she expects if a drunken night with Finn to change her plans. I love the relationship between Pru and her roommates. I was surprised to find they each get books too, so I had go by them as well. The Best Friend Problem was a cute fast read that had me laughing or biting my lip at different times. Can’t wait to see what else Mariah Ankenman has in store.
The Best Friend Problem, released by Entangled Publishing through the Love Struck imprint, is a delightful read. Romantic comedy paired with one of my favorite tropes—friends to lovers—done with a fun and enjoyable flair.
This was one of those reads that left me smiling. It’s light, fluffy, and so gosh darn cute you won’t know what to do with yourself. Pru and Finn’s friendship, and the adorable antics and fun banter between them, were so refreshing. Their story tugged at my heartstrings in all the best ways, yet also had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. This is definitely one of those reads where I grinned the entire way through, and when it was over, I heaved a happy little sigh.
Ankenman has a skill for developing characters you can’t help but fall in love with. And her humor is adorkable and spot on. I got more than one side-eye from my husband and dog when I snorted at a one-liner or cackled at a wonderfully set-up scene. Truly, in this day and age, the lighthearted joy this story brings to the table was just what the doctor ordered.
I would recommend this book to dang near anyone who wants to feel some warm fuzzies and spend an afternoon chuckling with delight. It’s trope-tastic and filled with feel-good moments.
Pru is a part owner of a very successful wedding planning business. She runs the business with her two roommates and good friends. She lost her family at a young age and only has her roommates and best friend Finn now. Love is not in the cards for Pru and she has a plan in place. A plan to have a family the medical way, artificial insemination. Her doctor says she will need to start soon, so it is time to put the plan in motion.
Finn is a hot as sin fireman. Having such a dangerous job really puts his dating life in perspective. How could he put anyone through the worry or possible loss of his life. He can’t and that is why he has the one date rule. His dates never go beyond two dates. But is that the real reason behind his rule???
Pru meets up with her bestie to tell him her plans to start looking for donor to have a baby. Finn tries to be happy for her, but something inside him does not feel the happiness front that he puts on for Pru. So what does he do…he buys shots. That fateful night of celebrating brings upon a chain of events that neither of them could ever imagine.
Pru and Finn are in for a new adventure. Her well laid out plans are changing frequently and nothing is working according to her plan. Everything is changing rapidly and Pru is not sure that her friendship will survive. Especially with all the new surprises.
I loved this story. It was a fun and loving story. I really enjoyed the fireman aspect of it, because let’s face it, firemen are just hot as sin!!! The dynamics of Finn and Pru are fun and exciting. These two people who have souls that complete one another. They just click in that way that two people do when they have that soul shattering connection. Watching their story play out was not only fun, but amazing.
This book truly had it all, fun, family, friendship, sadness, happiness and love by the boatloads. It was such e..a fun yet beautiful read. I fell in love with the characters immediately and dove right into the story. I really love best friends to lovers romance novels. They are such fun reading about characters that are so perfect for each other, yet fight the attraction and love so forcefully. It always makes for a entertaining and fun read.
If you love snarky fun with a dose of happily ever after and a side of tears, then this book is right up your ally. So pick up your copy today. This rom-com is sure to make you fall in love.
Pru has been best friends with Finn forever. Along with her two female besties, Mo and Lilly, they are all she has left in the world. Which is why Pru has decided to take a huge leap and have a baby. Having decided to go with IUI, all that’s left is letting her besties (the three of them) know, and choose a donor. When a celebratory night leaves Pru with a bit more than a hangover, will friendships be tested? Will Pru get the family that she craves or is that not in the cards for her?
This was such a cute story! A firefighter, best friends, a cute dog, steamy naughty bits and a side of drama. I just wish there was a bit more to it. I give this 4 stars.
I love a good friends to lovers story, and this one made me happy! Also, sexy firefighters, ‘nuf said.
I read the sample sent, but ten when tried to buy the whole book, said unavailable. I even googled it, why can’t I find & buy the book so I can finish it ? Please help me because I liked the sample.
Be still my heart. This book was had all the feel good happiness and humor. Absolutely loved every minute of it. Finn is a hot sweet firefighter that I have fallen in love with myself.
Pru is an independent hard headed woman that feels like a burden if she asks for help which I can relate to. Easier doing it all on your own and not asking for help. Hard time letting go without guilt.
I recommend this book as a light, easy read that still has it’s hot moments.
Ugh, I feel like there were so many missed opportunities here! Pru is introduced as this young woman who has experienced a lot of personal loss in her life so far. I think those circumstances could have influenced her personality and relationship to people she cares about more than it did. There could have been so much more depth here.
Finn seemed fairly solid but we didn’t see much from his point of view. I would have loved to have seen more scenes involving his job and the squad at the firehouse. Both Pru and Finn have careers that could have been used as more than just filler.
Also, the narration was very repetitive. I feel like we rehashed everything all over again at the beginning of most chapters. It got old fast and made it easy to gloss over parts of the story. Unfortunately I don’t think I missed anything.
Lastly, what’s with the cover? Finn is described as tall, solidly built, and heavily tattoo-ed. The guy on the cover looks NOTHING like Finn. I feel let down. Though it was a good palate cleanser so I guess that’s something?
Opposites do attract!
Wedding planner Lilly Walsh swore to never date anybody involved with any wedding she was planning again so when she met Lincoln Reid in a bar and had a one night stand, she thought she was in the clear. Little did she know that she would see Lincoln again as the best man of the next wedding she was planning? Lincoln was moving to Denver for work and he really liked Lilly and wanted to see her more but she refused to give him the time of day after the problems that happened the last time she dated someone in a wedding her company was planning.
The Best Man Problem is fun to read where Lilly and Reid are very opposite types where Lilly hates computers and that is Reid’s job is but they both love to play pinball games which leads to his groveling scene which I loved.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Actually more like 3.5, but I’ll gladly bump up to 4 since BB doesn’t offer a half-star option. This is the first book I’ve read from this author. She has a fun, quick-witted writing style that is easy to read. Her characters are interesting and likable. The Best Friend Problem is a fun, light-hearted story about Finn and Pru, who have been best friends since they were in elementary school. While I doubt their situation isn’t all that likely to happen in real life, it sure was fun reading about it! This would make a great beach read.
Enjoyable story of two best friends who are definitely more, but it takes them many years to come to that realization. It is very interesting how that takes place…the circumstances are spectacular.
A different kind of plot, bit believable. I think some situations were not handled maturely as could should have been. These situations seemed to have been more high school or college freshman style.
This was a cute friends to lovers story. I loved the banter between Finn and Pru and how committed they were to maintaining a friendship no matter what. This is the first book I’ve read by Mariah, but it will not be the last!
It was an okay book, I didn’t like the fact that it took her the whole book to show that she had some common sense about her own best friend.
Really adored this fun friends to oh my so much more romance with an unexpected baby twist…. was so fun to read this emotional roller-coaster of a journey. I laughed so hard people where eyeing me funny (maybe I should stop reading in Dr office waiting rooms…. oh well) Excellent summer reading experience!
The Best Friend Problem didn’t exactly wow me at any given point, but I didn’t dislike it either. It was just sort of there …. Other than the author using a unique twist to kick these two into gear about their feelings for each other, there really wasn’t anything that stood out for me.
I’ll be the first to say that this trope is really hard to surprise me with. It’s not exactly underwritten LOL So my feelings on the story could very much be because I’ve just read waaaay too many of these. I think the writing was done well and I didn’t have any problems with characterization .. sigh, I just wasn’t feeling it *shrug*
Overlooking the obvious could have life changing results. Pru and Finn tests the bonds of friendship when these BFFs give into the attraction that has been stalking them for years. The Best Friend Problem has an obvious plot, but an irresistible cast of characters that charm their way into a heart. Ankenman pours on the sugar with a dousing of spice and a heaping, helping of wit. Sparks fly, hearts melt and surprises ensue. PERFECT!
Accidental pregnancy meets friends to lovers, yes please!
Pru has decided she’s going to have a baby on her own, now she just needs to tell her BFF Finn. Telling Finn leads to one night that leads to oopsy!
I loved how respectful Finn was of Pru’s wishes and plans but also still made it clear what he wanted, once he figured it out. I also loved that there were some really real moments of indecision, anxiety, and out right wrongness that all the characters worked through together.
I do wish we had gotten a bit more on Mo and Lily but I’m assuming we didn’t because they will be getting stories of their own. Overall I really loved the pacing and style of the book and am excited for more.
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Having never read anything by this author before, when it popped up on my radar I decided to give it a whirl. It was a great friends to lovers romance involving 3 besties that formed a special bond as roommates in college and remained roommates now and Pru and her hot fire fighter best friend Finn. Who knew one night of hot steamy sex could end up with more than they asked for? Plenty of laugh out loud moments, especially the breast pump in the baby shop one for me! one, and lots of love and tenderness. You can’t go wrong with The Best Friend Problem.
