Sometimes it takes a barren landscape to see the beauty of God’s creation.
Phineas King knows better than to expect anything but shock and pity wherever he shows his face. Horribly scarred from the tragic accident that claimed his mother’s life, he chooses to keep his distance from everyone, focusing his time and energy on the bees his family raises. If no one sees him, no one can judge him. So … can judge him. So why does he start finding excuses to seek out Deborah Lantz, the beautiful new arrival in town?
Deborah can’t get out of Bee County, Texas, soon enough. Once her mother and younger siblings are settled, she is on the first bus out of this dusty town. She is only waiting on the letter from Aaron, asking her to return to lush Tennessee to be his fraa. But that letter never comes. As she spends time getting to know Phineas — hoping to uncover the man beneath the scars — she begins to realize that she no longer minds that Aaron hasn’t sent for her.
As both Deborah and Phineas try to come to terms with lives that haven’t turned out the way they imagined, they discover that perhaps Gott’s plans for them are more extraordinary than they could have dreamed. But they need to let go of their own past sorrows and disappointments to find the joy and beauty that lies just ahead for them both.

An easy read book which has insight into the Amish and also into people in general and how we can tend to judge people on looks. Great book for my book club.
Kelly Irvin’s The Beekeeper’s Son is a beautiful story of faith, hope, and second chances. Her characters are so real that they feel like old friends. Once you open the book, you won’t put it down until you’ve reached the last page.
I read this book several years ago and loved the characters. I could hardly put the book down. This weekend I read it and once again could hardly put it down. I loved it even more the second time! Looking forward to reading the other 2 in the series.
This was such a wonderful read. 3 young people trying to decide what they want. Jesse like Leila, but he is deciding during his rumspringa if he want to stay Amish or join his English friends and join their church. But with likely Leila and not wanting to take her away from his family because if he doesn’t join the Amish community they will not be …
The Lantz family follow God’s calling to Texas. Arriving, both Abigail and her eldest daughter find they have been led figuratively and literally into the desert. Each faces a path they did not choose and must come to understand that God’s plan is seldom a destination but rather a journey. I found the book compelling. I cared for these characters …
Deborah and her family up and move to Texas. Anna decides it best and comes to live with her brother John and his family in Bee County, Texas. Deborah is surprised when she finds a strange animal. Phinas King is help unloading the truck and looks at her and thinks Deborah is horrid by what happen to him and his scar.
Anna is said to be committed …
I loved the characters and the storyline. A great story that teaches us to look within and not just on the outside when it comes to love and understanding.
a wonderful, realistic book about life and how you need to give it a chance.
