Boarding schools aren’t for the faint of heart.Neither are fairy tales.Hi.I’m Jessica.I’m not from a fairy tale and I don’t have any special powers or skills. I’m just a kid who won a scholarship to the weirdest school in town. I’m just trying to keep my head down, mind my own business, and stay out of the drama. But then Belle disappears, and all hell breaks loose.
The Beauty has all of the elements of a fairy tale with a modern twist. The characters we know from fairytales are real and in high school with our main character, Jessica earns a scholarship to Enchantment High and eagerly accepts. In this book, magic is known and accepted by humans. Jessica knows she is walking into a place where everyone is magical, except her. She does make friends and her adventure begins. The fairytale characters that we know and love are represented in this book in a way that humanizes them. It was a relief to find out that Snow White is not at all perfect but a real mean girl. Belle is a bit of a genius and the Beast is just that, a beast who struggles with relationships. The Beauty was enjoyable to read because it uses fairytale characters to teach us life lessons. I am interested to see what happens to Jessica and her friends as she progresses through high school.

Remarkable job Mortimer, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Enchanted Academy is a school for fairytale/magical students so new girl Jessica (FMC) is completely out of her depth because she is just a normal girl. Not a bit of magic in her. I really enjoyed this story about Jessica and her new friends – Belle, Tinkerbell, Hook. Stacy, Wolf (both of which arent in this book much) and Snow White. Highlight being Beast getting a much deserved punch! My only criticism is that we dont find out much about Jessica’s background. Only the basics. Id love to know more about her. Also os there going to be more between her and Beast? Im hoping there might be? Still a pretty good read all round though
We have a little mystery. Jessica won a scholarship to the Enchanted Academy, but she is not magical at all. When one of her friends disappears, she can’t understand why no one is looking for her. Should she mind her own business? Should she ask for help? Will they help her? Will they get into trouble if she does ask for their help? Why is Beast being mean to her? She has done nothing to him, but yet he won’t stop being mean.
Somehow Jessica Elizabeth Smith, trailer park princess and definitely non-magical human, had won an art contest and received a scholarship to Enchanted Academy. The admissions counselor at the school gave her a not very friendly look of distain. Tired of dealing with the hostility and drama at her old school, all she wanted was a chance to be accepted here. But without magic as everyone else has, things are not exactly hopeful and she will have to be strong to stand up to those who see her as inferior.
Accidentally walking into a girl while thinking about the strange old woman in a cloak she had hurried away from, Jessica was surprised at the angry response as the girl stomped away. A short girl nearby came up to introduce herself as Amy “Tink” Tinkerbell, warned her to avoid the mean girl, and helped her find her dorm. She met her roommate, Belle whom most people called Beauty. Her room consisted of hammocks instead of a bed, and pillows which seemed to be used rather than chairs. She hoped she could get used to this strangeness, but wasn’t sure she could!
Classes started and Jessica was late for the first two already. Her third class, Room 111, wasn’t marked or something because she had no idea where it was. She asked a tall, handsome boy and he directed her outside, down a path to a pink building, and that was where her class was. Instead, it was a garden shed and she could not understand the fun of being deliberately cruel to someone for no reason at all.
Jessica finally made it through her last class and went back to her room. Wolf was doing potion homework in a cauldron and she watched her for a time. Belle returned and got ready for her first date with someone, but she didn’t say much about it. When Jessica returned from dinner, Belle was still gone. At 3 a.m., Jessica woke to screaming about a fire on the third floor. Belle still wasn’t back from her date! Was she okay?
I loved this story line and all of the magical characters we meet. Jessica was awesome from the start. It was wonderful to watch her grow and mature in her new environment, taking strength from every incident and using it to make things better. She had to work harder to find acceptance, but she was willing to stand up for herself and her few friends, always trying to do what she felt was right. Despite her struggles, she was loyal and determined to solve the mystery of her missing roommate, Belle, even when no one else seemed bothered by her disappearance. Will she figure out what is going on? Grab your copy and enjoy being immersed in fairy tale characters in an entirely new setting!

The Beauty by L. C. Mortimer is the first book in the Enchanted Academy series. In this book, a new scholarship student named Jessica starts going school at the Enchanted Academy. This is her very first year at the prestigious school even though she is a sophomore and she is desperate to fit in and be a good student. This story is enthralling and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are amazingly interesting and the story was full of mystery and suspense that kept me turning page after page. This is definitely a wonderful book that anyone who enjoys young adult literature will love. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
