The beauty who refuses to be wed. The beast who loves her in vain. A twist of fate that brings them together.
Rhona MacLeod is the beautiful, willful daughter of a clan-chief upon the Isle of Skye. Desperate to remain free and bow to no man, she refuses all the suitors who ask for her hand.
Taran MacKinnon is one of Clan-chief MacLeod’s most trusted warriors. He carries a secret passion for his … Clan-chief MacLeod’s most trusted warriors. He carries a secret passion for his chief’s middle daughter. However, Rhona has never been able to see beyond his scars and forbidding appearance that have earned him the name ‘The Beast of Dunvegan’.
Frustrated by Rhona’s defiance, her father makes a decision that will force his daughter to take a husband—games that will bring warriors from all over the island, and from the mainland, to compete. Rhona must wed the victor. Finally, Taran has a chance to prove himself. If he wins the games, he can possess the woman he wants—but can he win her heart?

Pas très original, mais honnêtement écrit. Fait passer agréablement quelques heures.
I LOVED this book, so much so that as soon as I reached the end, I immediately bought the other 2 books in the series and finished all three books in one weekend. The main characters were so endearing. All the books were great but this one was my favorite. The heroine was strong yet likeable, and the hero was so sweet. I highly recommend not just this book but the entire series!
This book was so good I couldn’t wait for the next one! Loved the story
I really enjoyed the book but gave only 3 stars because there were a few places in the book that just didn’t make sense to me. If the Beast loved the lady in secret for many years, why wouldn’t he join up to participate in the games to have a chance at winning her. That point was never made clear. And what made him decide to finally participate? He just suddenly is a participant. A shock to the lady to see him as a participant, but also a surprise for the reader. And why, why, why is the lady SO upset to see the Beast in the games for her hand? Why did she consider it a betrayal? Does she have a better choice if he didn’t participate? Were the other participants more to her liking? No, she despise the other players. At least she knew the Beast always protected her.
The Beast character was well developed for the readers. He has vulnerabilites that came through very well, without weakening his character. In fact, made him stronger. He showed strength and vulnerabilities. The problem with writing a strong female is that it’s a very fine line between being a strong and wise lady and a willful selfish bitch. That line was not well drawn in this story.
A MUST READ!!
A woman who never wants to marry and be subject to a man and a father who stages games with the winner getting her as a wife for their prize. Definitely fireworks but in the era portrayed woman have no rights. The hero is the last person anyone would pick but he has always loved her and can not stand that someone would win and abuse her. Great read.
Loved this book! It makes one see that a person is more than what they seem and that loved is not based on property, wealth or looks.
Strength to Strength Unites Two Souls
I usually love any tale set against the backdrop of Scotland. However, the Isle of Skye in the mid-fourteenth century was certainly a challenging place for a woman. Even more so for a spirited young noble woman like Lady Rhona MacLeod. The Beast’s Bride by Jayne Castel tells her story in a gritty and troubling way.
This stand-alone book is a pull-no-punches tale with both sweet and abusive moments. The heroine is strong and fearless, as is her hero. There are villains aplenty to stir the pot, but there is also a happy ending for Lady MacLeod and her beast.
Content alert: moderately described marital intimacy and some moderate swearing.
Great book
I read this story first and then had to move on to the other two in the series. Totally captivating. I read all three without stopping . This is the way a romance should read . I pity male authors that think “Porn. or semi-porn” is how to portray romance. I hate to tell you how many of “their” books I have thrown in the trash. A shame really when they had an excellent story to tell.
I loved the characters and the story
This was a very sweet story. True love at its best and I enjoyed every page.
Nice, easy read. I especially liked the two main characters.
This is a wonderful stand alone romance novel based in Scotland in the 1300 when women were possessions. The book features 3 young women with minds of their own and their adventures with love. I could not put the book down. I have bought the second book in the series and look forward to reading it. Recommend highly.
The first book in this series was a freebie, but now I want to know what befalls Rhona’s sisters! Rhona is the middle daughter of a Scottish laird who has terrible taste in picking husbands for his daughters. Rhona’s refusal to marry her latest suitor causes her father to call a tournament with her hand in marriage as the prize. Lucky for her, one of her father’s fiercest warriors decides to throw his hat in the ring because despite his badly scarred face and her famously lovely one. Beauty and the Beast goes to Scotland and its grand 🙂
Like all the other reviewers, I LOVED this book. The storyline moved along at a nice pace, with unexpected events. The characters were all well crafted and stayed true to their natures. I look forward to reading the next (and the next) in this series. A wonderful find!
This is a riveting, dramatic, entertaining and romantic. Taran is kind, stubborn, tough and a little naive. Rhona is feisty, determined, protective and brave. Her father gets angry because she keeps telling suitors no, then he catches her and Taran practicing self-defense moves and loses it. He decides that there will be a competition for her hand. Shocked and hurt, she runs away. Her father sends Taran after her and she tries to talk him into either letting her go, or going with her, but he says no. Come the day of competition Rhona is angry and hurt to find Taran participating. Unbeknownst to her Taran has been in love with her for years, but he knew he didn’t have a chance with her because of his scarred face, and he can’t bear to see her given to a man who would kill her spirit. A marriage full of trust issues and misunderstandings follows.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This was my first reading by Jayne Castel and I would definitely recommend This book and read others by her in the future. Rhona is a strong, independent woman born in a century that did not encourage such. She disobeyed her father, insulted suitors, and ran away from home; that is until her father had had enough. Now she will be “awarded” to the winner of a tournament. Taran is a scared soldier, sworn to Rhona’s father and has no illusions as to his prospects with the lady… but as all good hero’s do: he fights! Taran is underestimated, a bit of an underdog, but with everything to win if he succeeds.

This story was such a wonderful read. The characters were all so strong and interesting. Rhona and Toran were such an unlikely pair but proved to be strong and right together.
