That first time I saw her—my mate—I’d been ready to kick some guy’s ass for even looking at her. I made no apologies for my possessive, territorial side. I was a grizzly bear shifter, after all. It was my nature to be over the top. Bethany hadn’t known what to do at first—being mated to a shifter—one who was grouchy and burly and made no apologies for how rugged he really was. But she wanted me, … wanted me, my sweet little human mate who could have brought a beast like me to my knees with just a look. I’d wanted nothing more than to throw her over my shoulder and take her back to my lair like a caveman.
But I let her take the lead, even if my bear wasn’t happy, even if the alpha in me wanted to have my way with her right then and there. And I would have my way with her. All the ways that counted, in fact.
I’d claim her, mark her, and before it was all said and done, there’d be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Bethany was owned by a grizzly.
Warning: Holy moly, this hero’s crazy for his mate, but who wouldn’t want one OTT alpha bear shifter obsessed with you? This story is sweet and sexy, and oh so very filthy. Of course, you get a happily ever after … and a little somethin’-somethin’ at the end to wrap it up nicely.

Mated to the grizzly
This is a fast, hot, intense, dirty read. Perfect for when you just want to get right to the meat of the story or when you don’t have time to spend on a longer tale. Bethany, a quiet human woman, and Zakari, a growly grizzly shifter, have an instant connection leaving no room for speculation or mistrust. The love they share will last a lifetime. I’m looking forward to reading what fate has in store for the next brother of the bear clan.
I can always count on Jenika Snow to deliver a hot, steamy and instant love story when I’m in the mood for one. This is the first book in a new little series about brother’s who are bear shifters. There is no drama, no bad stuff, just good, hot and sexiness between the characters. And I always love a good epilogue so I can know how the characters are doing. Can’t wait for the next one.

Would I read future books by this author = Yes
Short, way too short. I liked the characters and would have loved for this novella to be longer. More drama and more romance would have made it perfect.
I do love the shifter books though. An overly protective, possessive alpha shifter are well worth reading about. Super hot!
*WARNING* contains explicit adult love scenes
Zakari is a bear shift who wants his mate. Zakari knows his mate is out and has refused to be intimate with anyone until he finds her.
Bethany left home to take care of a grandmother who doesn’t even want her there. Bethany’s dad was never close to his mother, but feels family should take care of her until she’s healed.
This is a real short one. It gets right to the point. In this one, the human finds the mate pull as hard to resist as the shifter. Bear shifter sees mate, human knows she’s been seen and that she has to be his mate because she feels the pull, a little stalking while the human full accepts, they meet in the middle, do the deed and done. The part I like best is the author gives us a glimpse of life 8 years into the future.
As a bear, Zachary was brutal and savage, primal and animalistic. As a man, he was alpha and possessive, territorial but rational. Together they made on crazy pair who didn’t back down and would always fight for what he believed in and would go to the ends of the earth to find their mate.
Bethany had come to Blue Bear Ridge when her grandmother needed help after she fell and broke her hip. Since her father couldn’t leave his business for that length of time, Bethany knew that was the least she could do for her father.
This sexy, quick read by Jenika Snow will just transport you into a storyline with characters that will just take you along for the ride while this possessive grizzly bear tries to be patient as his human mate comes to terms with the immediate need that has come over her. It will be quite interesting to follow the remainder of the series and watch the other brothers as they find their fated mates.
When bear shifter Zakari realizes that he has finally found his mate, it takes everything in him to not take her right there. He is generous in that he gives her some time to get used to the idea…. but when that time is up nothing, not even Bethany, will stop Zakari from getting what he wants.
Jenika Snow can write some amazing naughty bits, like steaming up the kindle amazing. The only issue I have is how short this is. I feel like if this had been fleshed out more, there would have been more story to be had, and the character development would have been better. Other than that this is a good lunchtime read. I give this 3.5 stars.
A Grizzly claims his mate
Zakari and his five brothers are Grizzly shifters. They all live near each other, with plenty of land between. They run a construction business and keep mostly to themselves. They are all looking for their mates. Zakari, at 30, knows she is near.
Bethany came to town to help her surly grandma. They aren’t close, but she is family. A part time job at the local bar provides not only an income but also an escape, from her grandmother.
When Zakari and Bethany meet they both know who they belong to each other. Zakari is patient knowing his human mate needs time to adjust. Nothing is going to stop him from claiming her.
Fast paced, sweet and steamy. A growly alpha bear, claims his human mate.
Great epilogue to wrap up their story. Great quick read.
So Jenika Snow for me is a hit or miss most times. But I am really happy that I took a chance on this story. I enjoyed the alpha side of Zackari and the lighter sight of Bethany. I mean she just doesn’t jump him right there. Even though she knows it will happen soon. She takes her time and thinks about what she wants for herself. I liked that. And Zackari he is there through the whole thing even if she doesn’t see him. He is making sure she is safe and taken care of.
Good story from Jenika and I am excited about the brother’s stories.
Bethany Silver works in a bar and she just moved to Blue Bear Ridge to take care of her Grandma.
Zakari is a grizzly bear shifter and has never had an inclination to settle down until he walks into the bar one night and realizes his mate is in there.
Will Bethany be ready to be taken by Zakari or is it too much to fast?
This is a great quick alpha shifter read!
I thought Bethany was a great character who wasn’t ready to put up with anything – especially drunks!!
I thought right from the beginning that Zakari was pure alpha and you knew right from the beginning how far he would go to protect Bethany.
The chemistry between the two was hot!!
I loved the epilogue with how many kids they had!!
Zakari knows his mate is out there somewhere, he feels her he just has to find her. His life mission is to find her..
Bethany is new to townt, moved to help out her grandmother who broke her hip.
At first sight Bethany felt the attraction to Zakari, she knew she didnt know him but she knew him.she knew there was no denying that there was something between them, the strong sensation, pull, connection.
This was a great read, I can’t get enough of the instant connection, knowing you belong to someone, they accept and love you no matter what…
So…A Bear Shifter Walks Into A Bar
Bethany moved to Blue Bear Ridge, Colorado, to care for her injured grandmother…while there, she gets a job at a bar, and that’s where she meets Zacari, a bear shifter…..who immediately recognizes the human female as his mate…..I’ve never been big on paranormal, but I love Jenika Snow’s hot little insta-lust novellas….and the shifter thing is growing on me…The BEARly Controlled Grizzly is a good book…and Jonny James is on the cover…win-win…
Bear shifter Zakari knows he finally found his mate, he can sense it but now he needs to find her. Bethany doesn’t know a lot about shifters but she senses Zakari is her mate. Wanting time to understand everything Zakari doesn’t on his initial reaction to just claim her but his bear is riding him to claim his mate sooner then later.
This was a fun quickie. Dropped a lot of hints for the other brothers. The chemistry with Bethany is fantastic, thought the concept for this series was a lot of fun. Great read.
Feral, Possession Driven, & Oh So Yummy… In true Jenika Snow fashion, “The BEARly Controlled Grizzly” is a luscious example of her over-the-top, growly alpha infused storytelling. This, is book one of her six book installment, Bear Clan Series. A yummy, possessive filled adventure as only Snow can tell it about six bear shifter brothers, Zakari, Cason, Asher, Damon, Oli, and Maddix, gruff and rumbly mountain men, living together on a compound high in the Colorado Rockies. All who are impatiently waiting for their fated mates. This first book focuses on oldest brother Zakari, an excessively possessive, alpha grizzly shifter and his chance meeting and pursuit of his human mate, Bethany, a twenty-something girl in town to care for her ailing grandmother.
It is a quick, super-sexy, obsessively driven, insta-love story deliciously dripping with an overabundance of testosterone. And it is an indulgently filthy way to pass an hour or so…
And don’t you DARE roll your eyes! Yes this tale is far-fetched and fanciful. And not intended for the vanilla, chick-lit loving romance readers. Oh no, this book is for the bad boy loving, “let’s go find the sexy stalker in the dark” inclined female. The ones like me who enjoy some pure, alpha-male, level of mine-ness, and of course us paranormal loving females with a gigantic soft spot for the strong, larger-than-life, unbending and feral shifter men.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a million more times, Jenika Snow is the queen of the primal, possession driven, alpha mate! Her stories never disappoint and this one will most certainly more than satisfy that secret part of you, no matter how tiny, that desires a cave man to come and throw you over his shoulder and make you his. 😉
This was a fun and quick read.
Zackari is looking for his mate. He can feel she is close but they haven’t cross paths yet. Little does he know a night out on the town with the guys changes everything.
I loved watching Zackari woo Bethany. He knew that she was a human and might not understand the pull towards him. He tried to be patient but didn’t do so well.
This is a nice hot little bear shifter book. Zakari meets his mate Bethany while she’s at work at a bar. Will she understand what it means to be mated to a grizzly? You’ll have to read to find out.
Short and BEARy steamy novella
This is a short and BEARy steamy novella about a Grizzly bear shifter who has searched for his mate his entire life and she happens upon him in a bar. Bethany knows this man is pivotal in her life and she’s about to learn just how Alpha Zakari is
I really wanted to like this book.
With Jenika Snow’s books they can be a hit or miss for me. So I waited to read this one even though I really wanted to read it when it released. However, I’m glad I decided to borrow this from KU instead of letting my one-click finger get control.
I’ve read plenty of shifter/human relationship books and I think what really draws me to them is that the shifter is so alpha and the animal, when it comes to their mates, is so over the top that he can’t help but claim his mate right then and there. For this book that’s not the case. Zakari decides to let Bethany decide the pace at which their relationship would take place. Doesn’t sound too alpha to me.
There’s not much story or interaction between these two. Most of the story is more inner dialogue. I wish it would’ve been a better story for me =(
This was just an okay read for me. Nothing over dramatic. No angst no drama, just another obsessed alpha male shifter bear.
I hope the next will have more drama and more angst 🙁
I received an Advance Reader Copy of the book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I know what to expect when I read a non-shifter book from Jenika Snow: over the top alpha hotness and a ton of heat – and I’m all about that. The BEARly Controlled Grizzly featured all of that but I also felt that it was a lot more telling than showing and we spent a lot of time talking or thinking about doing stuff and not nearly as much of actually doing it. I liked Zakari and his enthusiasm for finding his mate (an aspect of shifter romances that I LOVE) and I liked that Bethany didn’t fight the attraction between them – I just wish that there had been a bit more of them actually interacting and talking to each other and less inner monologue. That being said, I still am totally down to read the rest of the series because I really want to see Zack’s brothers find their mates! 2.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
