It’s said no man is an island. But writer Parish Adams is out to prove them wrong. Broken and unable to bear the violent death of his child, he’s isolated himself on a private beach in Maine. He finds no comfort in the warmth of relationships. For Parish, the cold Atlantic Ocean is company enough.Scarlett Lyon’s life has taken a dramatic turn. Single and independent, living in Montana, nothing … nothing was tying her down. Then her sister’s fatal accident changes everything. She finds herself guardian for her nephew Sam. Now she must relocate to Martin’s Beach. And more jarring than that, become a mother figure.
Three wounded hearts. Two passionate souls. One tempestuous Beach In Winter.

This one gutted me. It was hard not to want to cry for Parish. It seemed like he was in so much pain. His imagining about what his neighbors’ lives were like, it was almost crazy to know they were almost in the same boat as Parish. This book wasn’t rushed, grieving needs it’s own time. Allowing each other to process their own losses but at the same time forging new relationships was almost as peaceful as the ocean. And as we know, the ocean may be peaceful, but it rolls and rages too. I really enjoyed this one.
The Beach In Winter
Leslie Pike
“My mind has become the enemy. Once a strength, now it’s relentless in its pursuit to make me remember, replay.”
What an inspiring, heartbreaking, healing, emotional, witty unexpected read.
“Every morning I try to reboot. Leave the night behind and begin again. Let go of the dark thoughts and the indulgences while there’s daylight.”
You never know what pain another person is hiding. Just being kind to a stranger, friend, neighbor or family member could be a moment that saves them from a deep pain or poor choice.
“You never have to chase what wants to stay.”
Parish is hiding away from the world and his family after the murder of his child. Scarlett’s lost her sister to a tragic accident and has become the guardian to her nephew Sam. She picks up her life in Montana and moves to Maine to care for him. Scarlett’s first night she finds Parish passed out drunk on the beach and covers him with Sam’s favorite blanket. The next day she is forced to go to his door to try and retrieve it. Can this cold, winter beach heal their broken hearts?
This was my first Leslie Pike book and I absolutely loved it! The story is tragic and the characters have lived through something so heartbreaking. I loved that Scarlett takes on raising Sam in such a fierce manor. She sees that Sam and Parish might be helping each other in a way that she never can. There are fun parts to the story and it is beautiful to see Scarlett, Parish and Sam learn to live again. I am looking forward to reading more Leslie Pike books.
