Known for her moving characters and emotional honesty, Mary Alice Monroe brings readers a beautifully rendered story that explores the fragile yet enduring bond between mothers and daughters Caretta Rutledge thought she’d left her Southern roots and troubled family far behind. But an unusual request from her mother–coming just as her own life is spinning out of control–has Cara heading back to … Cara heading back to the scenic Lowcountry of her childhood summers. Before long, the rhythms of the island open her heart in wonderful ways as she repairs the family beach house, becomes a bona fide “turtle lady” and renews old acquaintances long thought lost. But it is in reconnecting with her mother that she will learn life’s most precious lessons–true love involves sacrifice, family is forever and the mistakes of the past can be forgiven.

As someone who grew up spending summers on the Carolina coasts, I loved how this book felt like home. The details were so recognizable and tangible: Frogmore stew made fresh after a day on the beach, loggerhead nests hatching at night surrounded by crowds, lazy days filled in with sweet tea and southern accents and the blazing heat and humidity of …
This is a wonderful and warm hearted book for anyone who loves the beach, and will resonate with those that feel at home by the sea. There are many other books that continue the story of this family and you will come to love them all!
I enjoyed reading The Beach House series by Mary Alice Monroe. A good way to escape to the beach,my favorite lac
I liked this book because I learned a lot about loggerhead turtles and their nesting habits. My family and I were asked by some naturalists if we’d like to help move eggs of a leatherback turtle in Bundaberg, Australia in the middle of the night with no lights. 120 eggs! This brought back all those memories. Well done!
I loved this book,it was very well written and very realistic. There are twists and tears, but also smiles and happiness.i felt I could have been a character in that story. Made me start to look for my own beach house.
Great book. Fully enjoyed it.
I loved learning about this family and its history along with smatterings of history about the area and about turtles. This was a great story of letting go of past hurts and seeing how things you see as a child can be great misunderstandings.
Took this book to the beach–I know, what a cliche–but it proved to be a quick, delightful read and one with characters that were hard to forget. Thoroughly enjoyed this novel.
I LOVED this book. I recently reviewed a book that I wasn’t careful enough & confused it with this one. What’s bad is that while that book was just ok, this one is my favorite book in quite some time. I also saw the movie based on this book. It was an ok movie, but couldn’t hold a candle to the book. If you saw the Hallmark movie, please don’t …
Wonderful story about family, love and the loggerhead turtles. Now in a hallmark movie, which was great, but books are always so much better. You feel you really know the characters.
Predictable plot & clichéd characters.
Watched the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, then read the book. There were slight differences, but overall the same story line was followed. I enjoyed how the author fleshed out her characters and provided more insight into their thoughts and actions. There was more emphasis on the Turtle group and details not given in the movie. I would love to see …
The Beach House is a wonderful book. It had characters who developed throughout the book and a great deal of heart.
Such a lovely book–and such a talented author!
This was a powerful story about relationships, illness and dying. I found it an emotional read. I learned a lot about sea turtles, too. Having lived in the Charleston area for a good many years, I could imagine the comfortable old beach house, feel the sand between my toes and smell the ocean through the authors descriptors. Great summer read!
Loved, loved, loved it! The information on the life of sea turtles was the most important aspect of this book. The story and the characters were relatable and compelling. I didn’t want this book to end but now I know that the story continues in a sequel. Yay!!
I loved this book. It was one that I hated to put down. If you’re looking for a really good book, this is it! It’s one of the best I have read in a long time! I definitely recommend!
loved this book. Hard to put down.
Such a wonderful summer read..I learned some new things, gained wisdom and insights from a dear character and fell in love..with this story. I will look for more from this author!
I love all of her books. They quite often have an animal theme. This series (my favorite) is the sea turtle series. You need to read all her series in order.
