John Jakes excels at bringing American history to vibrant life. The Bastard is the opening volley.
Loved this book and recommended it to family members and bought a copy for a birthday present. Learned so much about the Revolutionary War while being royally entertained.
Not Bad for fictionalized history.
I loved the mini series but hated the book. The books had to much sex and abuse in them.
The first in a series. The Kent Family brings the making of American an up close and personal experience.
Love these historical novels
Great characters and felt realistic in describing the interaction between the various French and English class levels. Must have been a terribly frustrating time for everyone not being one of the landed gentry.
Characters that live thru history
Interesting if you enjoy history, a bit slow but does move along at times.
The entire series was excellent. So much history interwoven with interesting story lines.
Written with one eye on history and one on the drama of personal relationships. Easy to read and difficult to put down!
Very slow paced and filled with romantic fiction that might appeal to a woman but not someone interested in an adventure story.
I read the whole series, and really enjoyed it.
Historic and good at relating to the human situation L
This whole series is well worth reading starting with this first book. You will be well entertained and informed of much history.
I enjoyed the whole series. John Jakes knows his history and how to protray it. Realistically.
Great historical fiction.
Enjoyable historical fiction. It’s the first in a series. I enjoy revisiting characters and their families so this gets it started.
First book in a series. For those interested in American History.
