Sometimes you take the shot, and sometimes the shot takes you.As the manager of Montreal’s most infamous dive bar, Monroe—and it’s just Monroe, thank you very much—is used to serving up her signature pearls of wisdom alongside an array of shots, pints, and pitchers. In fact, she thrives on it. Taverne Toulouse is a mighty ship, and she its fearless captain, trusted by patrons and bar staff alike … patrons and bar staff alike to steer them through choppy waters.
If only she’d been given a little warning before a full-on tsunami swept in next door.
Julien Valois’ wining and dining empire is making waves. The next item on his agenda is opening a trendy lounge right next to Monroe’s beloved Taverne Toulouse—one that’s meant to run the dive bar out of business so he can buy up that property too.
His plans did not include falling for a five-foot-nothing brunette with an impressive vocabulary and an even more impressive ability to manhandle drunk frat boys twice her size.
They’re rivals in every sense of the word, but when Monroe and Julien are in a room together, the battle lines fade away. Their defences lower, their hearts get louder than their heads, and the burn between them goes down like just the right shot—intense, intoxicating, and able to sweep their priorities away with a single taste.
Until reality decides to slap up a big ‘For Sale’ sign and force them remember those priorities all too clearly.
The Bar Next Door is part of the Barflies series, a set of standalone romantic comedies that chronicle the lives and loves of the staff at a Montreal dive bar.

The Bar Next Door (Barflies Book 1)
by Katia Rose
This book was so enjoyable. I just loved these characters, Julien and Monroe have such a connection in a way that made me swoon. They are so different from each other and yet find a few wonderful things they have in common that makes their attraction that much sweeter. Even though they have this off the charts chemistry that you feel jumping off the pages, there is still this very big obstacle that stands between them. I loved the way the author wrote this story, it flowed so well that one minute I’m at the beginning and next thing you know I had finished the book. I can’t say enough good things about this book, it was that good. I highly recommend this book.
The Bar Next Door was a great 5 star read and book one in the Barflies series.
Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. It is a great rival to lovers read.
This is Julien and Monroe’s story and I loved it.
Monroe’s bar has been struggling and she gets concerned when the place next door is bought. She has loved working there and since the owner isn’t the nicest person she gets concerned when the place next door is sold. She decides to snoop on the competition and when she meets Julien, the new owner she is immediately drawn to him.
Julien likes Monroe instantly, what will happen when he learns about Monroe’s secret? Will that change things for them?
These two were great, I had several LOL moments. Julen being a frenchman was a plus along with being sexy and super nice. Monroe was adorable and determined. Overall I really enjoyed this read. I loved the ending and can’t wait to read more from the series. 1-click and get started today.
The Bar Next Door is a wonderful book about Monroe and Julian’s journey to love. Monroe manages a bar. Julian buys the place next door, to build his own business. When they meet, sparks fly. Can they overcome their differences or will their pasts tear them apart? I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

The Bar Next Door (Barflies Book 1) by Katia Rose
The Bar Next Door is the first book in Barflies series by Katia Rose and I loved it. I Simply want more. I found myself so lost in the pages that everything around faded away. I absolutely loved the characters Monroe and Julien, she’s a hard working woman who sees the good in everyone, even the guy who has bought the building next to the bar she manages. He’s a businessman that puts his businesses first. He’s a sexy bearded Frenchman need I say more? These two are to cute. I loved there bantering back and forth. There definitely an attraction between them. What does the future look like? I can’t recommend this Book enough. So good from the beginning till the end. Only thing is I wanted more, I can’t wait to read the next in this series.
I loved the character Monroe! She came off as sassy and down to earth. She loves helping people and helps other people before thinking about herself. Julien is a hottie. I kind of picture him as a modern day Paul Bunyan with business skills. The description of the characters are spot on and very detailed. When Monroe’s boss has her spy on the new business neighbor, she had no idea what roller coaster ride she was in for!
Katia is going on my list of authors to look more into. This book was great! I loved the characters and their chemistry. Honestly don’t think it took me more than a couple of hours to read this book because it was so easy to fall in love with. Looking forward to the next in the series!
The Bar Next Door (Barflies Book 1) by Katia Rose. I flipping loved this book. It was off the charts good and soooo sexy. After he meets Monroe though his plans may change, he didn’t include falling in love with the head of the competition. Sparks fly when they are together and they are completely out of their heads when they are in the same room. Avid series book reader, I’m so glad this is just the beginning of this series. This is my first book from Katia and it won’t be my last! This is such an easy read that you’ll want to finish before you put it down that flows really well. She’s a great writer. The characters were easy to relate to and fall in love with. I really suggest reading this book and start looking for more of her reads!
The Bar Next Door (Barflies Book 1) by Katia Rose is a wonderful contemporary romance that I found myself getting lost in and enjoying immensely. The unique plot and character building is done well and you can’t help but fall in love with and laugh with them. It is a simplistic story but it is in it’s simplicity that makes it all the better and the story builds nicely. I also liked the way the author gave us a tidbit at the beginning of each chapter and encompassed information on the subject of wine and beer throughout the book. All in all I really enjoyed Katia’s writing style and the story is very well written and I look forward to reading more of her work.
The Bar Next Door by Katia Rose is the first book in the Barflies series. This book will completely take you over and have you hooked.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and it is one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It drew me in so easily with the amazing characters and stir NG storyline. This is one of those books that I picked up planning on reading “just a couple of chapters”, only to end up reading it all in one sitting.
This was a brilliant book that I flew through in no time. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!
I absolutely loved this story it is beautifully written with relatable character’s and and addictive storyline. The character’s are amazing and come across so down to earth and a storyline you will get hooked right from the beginning. The Bar Next Door (Barflies #1) by Katia Rose
Have you ever had a book just kind of show up for you to read at the perfect time? The Bar Next Door by Katia Rose did just that for me. The main characters, Julien and Monroe were brought together because it looked like they were bound to be business competitors, but there was undeniable chemistry that led to so much more. I enjoyed the storyline, with a strong, educated, and independent, female character and a man who instead of relying on his family businesses and wealth for success, chose to make his own way through his own hard work and business skills. This book had romance and passion and I loved how the characters grew throughout the story.
The writing style and content really connected with me. It flowed so naturally and was beautifully descriptive and almost poetic at times. I highlighted so much of this book on my Kindle, some due to just the way the words came together, and other sections just for how they evoked such strong feelings in me. I will never run out of books to read, but this one is actually one of the ones I actually think I will hold onto to re-read again later. Whether it was the passion between Julien and Monroe, the way Monroe describes the bar she manages, how she compared Julien to a cocktail, or even the way the couple explored their feelings and showed their vulnerability to one another, I was seriously loving this story.
I felt a wide range of emotions while reading this book. I shed a few tears and was scorched by the heat between Julien and Monroe. I found myself wanting to call a couple friends to get them to read the book too so that we could talk about it, but I also didn’t want to stop reading to talk to anyone. I was in love with everything about this book and look forward to reading more by this author. I highly recommend this 5 star story!

The Bar Next Door is the first book in the Barflies series by Katia Rose. This is a great contemporary romance- with a rom-com feel and an enemies to lovers aspect as well. The story is angsty, emotive, fun, sweet, and sexy. As my first book by Katia Rose, I felt it was a perfect introduction to her work- and definitely left me wanting to explore more of her books. It was so easy to immerse myself in the story, while also investing in these wonderful, slightly quirky, and complex characters- who really made this story come to life.
Monroe’s life revolves around Tavern Toulouse where she has worked ever since her student days. It’s her second home and the staff are more like family. But, business hasn’t been so great so the threat of closure is an ever present weight on her shoulders. The building next door has been sold and is being renovated into a trendy wine bar lounge- which threatens the already struggling dive bar even more.
Monroe decides to do some investigating- and this is where the story takes off. Julien and Monroe may be rivals, but the sparks fly, and things quickly heat up. Will their rivalry end in heartache and loss? Or will love win out in the end?
I loved the chemistry and connection between Julien and Monroe- it was just the right mix of tension, angst, drama, sweet, and spicy. The banter also added to my enjoyment of the story.
I am very much looking forward to the rest of this series.
Thank you, Katia Rose!
The Bar Next Door by Katia Rose was a great novel! I really enjoyed reading this fast paced non-typical bar romance story. I say non-typical because it’s different from the other bar romance stories I have read before. There was some definite steam throughout the pages, and some humor and punch lines that made me laugh. I immensely enjoyed reading this novel and I can’t wait to read the next one!
What a great kick off to a new to me author. This series starts off with The Bar Next Door and we meet Monroe and Julien. I loved Monroe, she’s a lot like me in a way, a soft heart and always putting everyone before herself. She’s trying her best to keep the bar afloat and being pulled in every direction is straining on her. When meeting Julien, what starts as an instant attraction and her boss has her feeling him out about buying the bar, turns into something neither saw or wanted coming their way.
I loved that Julien wasn’t super alpha and was sweet and down to earth in a way i needed in a long line of other books I’ve read as of late.
I really can’t wait to see the rest of this series come together.
Oh holy hades I am hooked! Like badly addicted and can’t wait to get my hands on more of Katia Rose’s books! Like how have I missed her until now? I am so glad that I dived in deep and without a question because once I did I was transported into this wonderful slow-burn read that I just could not put down till that dreaded last page!
This book is the perfect rendition of an enemy turned into lovers in all the right ways! I felt as if I myself was falling for the handsome and lovely Julien Valois, our Frenchman who steals our hearts with his sweet French tongue and his overall character. Monroe is the perfect lead female and compliments Julien so darn well that I couldn’t imagine any other person in the world for her perfect man. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. I am sure it will blow me away as well!
This rom-com was a wonderful addition to my library that left me laughing and swooning almost simultaneously. I loved how the characters jumped off the page. I felt an instant connection to Monroe and just loved everything about her. Katia Rose is a new author to me but with this romp, I cannot wait to read more from her.
As soon as I finished this book I wanted to read it again. I wasn’t ready for it to end, that’s how I know I loved a book!
As a manager in a struggling bar, Monroe is devastated to find out that the new owner of the next door property is planning to open a hip new lounge. But Monroe can’t just give up, and sets out to save the bar she loves. Once she meets Julien, the owner of next door, things get complicated, and go in a whole new direction.
I absolutely loved both of these characters, it’s a slow burn romance but definitely worth investing the time in. Julien is hot, and has a sexy accent to make it even better. Monroe is a strong, sexy female lead who you are really hoping gets her happy ending.
Neither of them planned to fall in love, and sparks fly throughout as they uncover each other’s secrets.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I can’t wait to read more.
The Bar Next Door is the first book in the Barflies series by Katia Rose and I loved every minute of reading it. It is a RomCom book which I mean with that alone you can’t go wrong. This book was an easy read and I found myself unable to put the book down. The characters in this story were written great and you couldn’t help but love them. Monroe, she is sassy, smart and such a strong woman and then you have Julien who is a sexy Frenchman who is charming. The chemistry between these two is hot! Highly recommend this book if you want a fun read that teaches you some too.
