Megan Shannon and her brother escaped certain starvation in Ireland by sailing to America with little more than the clothes on their backs. The tenement they had to share and the hard work at least fed them but the gang violence of New York is what would change everything.
Dallas King has worked hard to make himself a rich man, but he still feels unworthy of the life he has now. He is a Banker and needs to have a woman of substance for a wife. A mail order bride will hopefully be who he needs.
The untamed west is a land of danger, hope and a chance at a new life. A gang of bank robbers could endanger the whole town. Will the memories from the past spoil the future for our characters???
A lively historical western romance with great characters that I’m sure we will meet again in the rest of the series.
Good fun.
Another wonderful story by Theresa Oliver from the Whiskey River Brides Series. Megan Shannon comes to America with her brother Liam so they may have a better life. But when Liam is murdered defending Megan, when he made her promise to find a better life. The only thing can do is become a mail order bride. Dallas King childhood was spent being beaten by his father wondering if it must be because he wasn’t perfect enough to be loved. So he never let himself get close enough so love or be loved. Things are wonderful for Megan and Dallas but he believes in spending money to make Megan change into a society woman/leader and all she wants is for him to see that spending money to impress others, just be himself. This is a fabulous story with wonderful characters,(many are from other Whiskey Creek Bride books) drama, villians , hero’s who are also finding true love for 2 people who were looking for companion ship. This is a must read even if you have never read the books in order but it is helpful to read them in order. I can only hope that there are other books in this series but if not, I will be reading the series again and again
Another good addition to the Whiskey River Brides Series!
Megan Shannon is an Irish immigrant living in New York with her brother just trying survive. But she’s seen first hand how people don’t want her “kind” around and watches as her brother is killed trying to protect her. But before her brother dies she promises him that she will find a man to marry, love, and have a life with children. To keep her promise and try to find a new life she responds to an ad in the paper for a banker seeking a bride.
Dallas King had set out to make a better life for himself than that of a poor sharecropper’s son. Now he owns his bank and has a certain idea for how he wants his life to about. In this idea, a wife and family are included. After trying a mail order bride before and having lost her to another man, Dallas is a bit apprehensive to give it a try again, but he must since none of the single women in Whiskey River catch his eye.
From the minute Megan and Dallas meet there are sparks. But Megan isn’t the kind of woman a man can mold. She un-apologetically herself and never expected that her husband would try to change who she is. Dallas’s idea of a wife was to have someone on his arm to show off, spoil, and give him another way to flaunt his wealth and just how far he’s come from being the poor boy he was. For their marriage to work they will both have to compromise and hopefully find a way to love each other even with all their imperfections.
This is the first book by this author and a different read to my usual historical romance. I found her writing style different from what I am used to but I enjoyed the different setting, American Wild West. There was action, friction, romance and suspense. Everything that you want in a book to keep you entertained. Even though this is #5 of the series it was very easy to read and follow as a standalone book.
This historical romance set in Whiskey River was an entertaining struggle between two strong willed characters. Megan, an Irish lass who loses everyone she loves answers an ad for a bride. Dallas is a powerful, rich man with preconceived notions of how a proper wife behaves. This battle of wills makes for a page-turning adventure filled with both lovely and nefarious characters. I enjoyed my time spent in Whiskey River and recommend this series for lovers of Western romance.
A sweet historical romance about two lonely hearts brought together by chance to discover a heart-felt love, redemption and second chance. I enjoyed the characters and watching their relationship develop throughout the story.
This was a quick read. It starts with a bang and takes the reader on a lively ride, and it ends satisfactorily. Though part of a series, it reads well on its own and the author does a great job of getting the reader up to speed if they hadn’t read the others yet. Great book and worth the time one spends reading it.
Perfect balance found in this match.
The strength it took for a woman in that era to survive. Never ceases to amaze me. I personally couldn’t just jump on a train to marry a stranger. Let alone have survived the path to get there.
4 out of 5 stars
When Megan lost her brother to a senseless fight in the street . She has nothing left, she has know her share of struggles and wants to be her own woman. She has no choice but to answer an ad for a bride . She heads out to Whiskey River to be the bride for Dallas King the banker . Dallas King who is the banker who is fighting a few demons of his past . Will they be able to come to terms with their past and will they open themselves up to love .
The characters are well written and complex , I truly loved the characters in this story . Megan is a sweet Irish girl who has been put through so much . She is sassy and can take care of herself . She is also sweet and trying to keep her heart from getting hurt . She wants to be her own woman but also wants to take care of those that she loves . Dallas is making a good life for himself on the frontier . He is a good man who is hiding a secret to his past . He has taken it upon himself to have a narrow view on how to be a gentleman. He is sweet and kind with Megan and tough as nails when it comes to protecting her . When something happens to Megan he has a total change of heart and he opens his heart up to all that are around him . I really like them and Megan i love her feistiness and her love of all things . Dallas one moment you want to hug him and the next minute you really want to hit him with a frying pan. Together they play off each other great .
This is the first time I sat down and read a sweet historical romance and I was hooked . The characters were well written and the story moved really fast . I love the old west and when you throw in romance and gun fights and you have a winner . The author takes us on an epic adventure . I know this is the fifth book in the series but I read it and wasn’t lost at all . I am sure you could read it as a stand alone if you wanted to. This would be a great read for the campsite or the beach . You will love them as much as I do . So if you want a sweet western check them out
Love Megan and Dallas and their connection. You have all the feels with this story and I am addicted to this series.
The Bankers Wife by Theresa Oliver has been eagerly awaited by her readers and she really delivered. The town of Whiskey River and it’s inhabitants have given us many great love stories. It is refreshing to read historical westerns with the exacting detail that this author always delivers. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone but read in order they give us an idea of what western life was like. The harsh conditions, lack of amenities, and the outlaws that were always just around the corner this series is an amazing testament to the authors love of the genre. Dallas and Megan have a tough go of it in the beginning more from what their past held for each of them and their stubborn pride. Character development is detailed and gives us a good feeling for the main as well as secondary characters. It was nice to catch up with favorite characters from past books but does not detract for a new reader. If you have not read Theresa Oliver do not waste a moment longer.
this book was amazing! it will keep you on the edge of your seat in a few parts. she lost everything. now time for new start. he needs a bride and is fighting past demons. will these two get together? read to find out what happens.
