Ambition will fuel him. Competition will drive him. But power has its price. It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able … hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.
The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined – every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

I’ve really loved this book. It’s not just a prequel nor a novel but a book full of a story. I think this is the perfect piece in order to complete the hunger games series puzzle. It’s so exciting that I’ve read it in only one night until I turned off my morning alarm( yes because of this story I didn’t go to bed). I hope in another masterpiece like this!
This story gives fans of The Hunger Games an intriguing perspective of Coriolanus Snow.
This story begins in the last year of school for Coriolanus. As a senior project, select students are chosen to be mentors to participants of the Hunger Games. Coriolanus is assigned the female tribute of District 12.
After reading this book I had to go back and reread the series looking for clues to Snow’s dislike to District 12.
An interesting look into how president Snow started. As usual there were very interesting characters.
“The show’s not over until the mockingjay sings,”
The Ballad of songbirds and snakes start on the day of the Ten Hungers Games reaping. We meet a 18 years old Coriolanus Snow in the Capital who is about the be a mentor to one of the tributes and we want nothing but to bring back victory. But the odds won’t be in his favor. He will get to mentoring, Lucy Gray, the female tributes of district 12.
I kind of love it and not sure in the same time. Probably would have like it better if it was in the PoV of Lucy and not Snow or if some chapters were his and other were hers. Kinda dissapointed in the games also. Having read the trilogy I was waiting to get the same feeling when I read them but I didn’t. But I have really llike the ending. And happy I didn’t get sad for Snow for becomming the way he his when we met him in the Hunger Games. He wasn’t the vilain he will become but he wasn’t that good either.
This was an amazing prequel to the Hunger Game series! It gives you great insight into the life history of President Snow. Unforgettable characters and gripping story line. I couldn’t put it down! Finished it in one day! Some content is not suitable for all readers. Happy Reading!
I admit I wasn’t all that excited about reading an entire book about Coriolanus Snow. (But come on, it’s The Hunger Games prequel, so you know I had to.) Now that I’m done, I think I was right not to get excited.
Not a spoiler, because we’ve all read the Hunger Games trilogy: Snow’s a dick. I hoped in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (a Hunger Games Novel) we’d get some good insight into what broke him, because surely once upon a time Coriolanus was a decent person. Raging a-hole adult President Snow must be the result of ‘when bad things happen to good people…’?
Or not. Sometimes a dick is just a dick.
Pfft. Who am I kidding? I can’t justify the amount of time it took to finish this. I was hopeful, but yeah, I still hate Snow and can’t muster even a little bit of compassion for him, now that I know his story. This addition to the series in no way enriched my experience in the world of Panem.
I’m not sure if the author was pressured into a book she wasn’t feeling or if this was just meant to be filler, but there are maybe only 2 parts in the 400+ pages that I had any interest in. As much as I loved the Hunger Games trilogy, I couldn’t recommend this in the slightest. It’s the Delly Cartwright of books.
Ce livre se vit de la première à la dernière page et on en reste pantois devant ce tour de force clairement réussi par l’autrice ! A découvrir d’urgence !!
