“The laughs keep coming” in this mystery novel as a small-town Virginia obituary writer looks into the life—and suspicious death—of her latest subject (Kirkus Reviews). Riley Ellison thought she was making a bold move when she left her job at the Tuttle Corner Library for the exciting world of print journalism. Except it hasn’t been all that exciting so far. As the Tuttle Times’ new obituary … Tuttle Times’ new obituary writer, her career prospects seem deader than ever. But all that changes when Riley’s former co-worker Tabitha finds her soon-to-be father-in-law dead on his office floor. Now Riley has plenty of questions to answer if she wants to give this obit the attention it deserves—especially with Tabitha’s fiancé suspected of the murder.
With mounting pressure from her boss, the mayor, and a bridezilla facing a conjugal-visit honeymoon, Riley is desperate to prove she can handle the increasing demands of her new job. Despite warnings from her new boyfriend Jay, and the distracting return of her long-time ex and his impossibly hot new girlfriend, Riley blurs the line between reporter and investigator. But as she starts to uncover some of Tuttle’s most dangerous secrets, she may wind up with more than a byline on the obit page.

My favorite line: “How long after finding a dead body can you wait before calling the police?”
Definitely needed a proofreader. Strange chunks of text appeared amidst the novel. Last I checked cafeteria was spelled with only one f.
I liked the characters in this book and it had a little bit of an unpredictable ending.
What a fun book. Now I’m going to have to read the rest of the series!
This is a fun book to read, I like the characters and how there some twists in it.
It is well written and keeps you interested.
This is a fun read. I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it to fans of Stephanie Plum.
Good entertainment for a stormy weekend. There are a few unbelievable moments in the book – not sure why cops are just so willing to share information with amateur sleuths in these books, but it seems to be a trend. And the boyfriends (eye-roll)! Still, good enough to share with a friend who wants a quick weekend mystery; and good enough to probably read more by the same author.
Not as good as the good byline. A bit disappointed.
This was an easy read and quite entertaining. I would definitely read another one in the series.
Ok but not deep
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this book. It had lots of twists that kept me occupied trying to solve it before the end. I never did. This was a great read!
A charming, slightly funny cozy mystery with chapters interspersed with hilarious email exchanges between an uber-milennial life coach and our heroine.
Interesting twists. Billed as funny but I didn’t find it to be.
This is a good read. Enjoyed the characters and the witty humor.
I enjoyed this book, I only wish that I had read the first book in this series first. Now I can’t make up my mind if I want to buy the first one or just wait until the third one comes out.
Loved it
Has everything
I like this book for a number of reasons, among them, the interesting characters.
Fun quick read
Just couldn’t get into it at all.
I really enjoyed this murder mystery. The main Character, Riley was a yound inexperienced reporter for the local paper. She has good instincts and is not afraid to confront potential suspects. She is obsessed with obituaries and gets the assignment of writing an obit for a well know murdered doctor. There are lots of characters and the author keeps you guessing and changing your mind on “who done it”. I would like to read her other books.
Keeps you guessing, entertaining.
