#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts begins a new trilogy of adventure, romance, and magick in The Awakening. In the realm of Talamh, a teenage warrior named Keegan emerges from a lake holding a sword—representing both power and the terrifying responsibility to protect the Fey. In another realm known as Philadelphia, a young woman has just discovered she possesses a treasure of her … discovered she possesses a treasure of her own…
When Breen Kelly was a girl, her father would tell her stories of magical places. Now she’s an anxious twentysomething mired in student debt and working a job she hates. It has been funded by her long-lost father—and it’s worth nearly four million dollars.
This newfound fortune would be life-changing for anyone. But little does Breen know that when she uses some of the money to journey to Ireland, it will unlock mysteries she couldn’t have imagined. Here, she will begin to understand why she kept seeing that silver-haired, elusive man, why she imagined his voice in her head saying Come home, Breen Siobhan. It’s time you came home. Why she dreamed of dragons. And where her true destiny lies—through a portal in Galway that takes her to a land of faeries and mermaids, to a man named Keegan, and to the courage in her own heart that will guide her through a powerful, dangerous destiny…

Typical Nora Roberts which is not a bad thing. It’s just rather predictable and probably more enjoyable for 20 or 30 somethings.
Book 1 of 3. Doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, exactly, but I expect Books 2 and 3 will complete the overall arc.
It started out great, but I didnt like the way the story line followed or ended.
Totally enjoyed reading. Great way to transport yourself to another realm loved the interaction between characters.
I thoroughly enjoy these trips through the imagination. The characters are so real that you identify with them almost from the start. Looking forward to the next book.
This book was everything I’ve come to love about Nora Roberts. Magic, suspense, love, and intrigue. Couldn’t put it down.
Loved it. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
Loved it from the start. Could hardly put the book down. Starting on reading the Becoming. Excellent story!! Love Nora Roberts!
I did not expect this book to turn ‘other worldly’ and was disappointed when it did, as this is not ordinarily my cup of tea! It was very entertaining and I loved the characters. I had vowed NOT to buy Book 2 when I finished, but daggone it, Nora ended “The Awakening” in such a manner that I had absolutely NO CHOICE but to buy Book 2 just to see what happened!!!
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a huge Nora Roberts fan. I loved this book, and I’m excited that I’ve now started to read the second book in this series. Book one was fabulous and kept me wondering the whole time about what might happen next. It truly is a wonderful journey and I highly recommend this book, which will transform you as a reader into another world. Thank you Nora Roberts!
I can’t wait to see where this story goes! There are so many interesting characters and I just know that there will be some fun twists and turns before e get our happily ever after. I really enjoy Nora Robert’s stories – I horde new ones until I can have a block of uninterrupted time to just dive into them and enjoy meeting new friends and traveling to new places!!
This book was so worth the wait!!! It has everything I love about Nora’s writing in it. This is the first book of The Dragon Heart Legacy and the way it ends is satisfying, not frustrating, and leaves you with excitement and anticipation for the next book. I can’t wait!!
It develops characters that grow as the book develops. You’re brought into the book and can see the descriptions as their developed. I really look forward to reading book 2, becoming.
Loved it!!!
Another fantasy to chalk up. Of course, she writes well…
The beginning of a new trilogy by Nora Roberts always makes me happy! Being the first book in the trilogy, background has to be set so the motivations later in the novel make sense. In that respect, the book dragged a bit at first, but as Breen made her way to Ireland with Marco, then on to Talamh alone, the book picked up and the magic that is Nora Roberts took over.
Very enjoyable book, just right for a day long sit in front of the fireplace or wherever your cozy reading place is, to do nothing but immerse yourself in the story.
I grabbed this one in audio and I could not stop listening. I was enthralled from the beginning. Breen is struggling through life, a life she is not happy with. She is a school teacher and barely making it by with the ever-mounting bills and working from paycheck to paycheck. When she takes the bus to her mother’s apartment to water the plants since she is traveling for work she finds the office a mess with papers scattered. As she is picking them up she finds out her mother has been keeping a secret from her. A secret bank account in her name from her father. When she finds out she now has over 4 million dollars this is life changing and after paying off her debts, allowing Marco, her best friend, to perform a makeover on her and rid her of the dye and bring her hair back to the glorious natural red, she makes plans for a trip to Ireland to find her roots and more about her father. This author has a way of bringing us right into the story and I felt as if I was right there with Breen through the entire journey from Philadelphia to Ireland and then into the realm of Talamh. Oh, I’m not going to tell you any more, read or listen to this one yourself but be prepared to grab the next one in the series (it is available).
I love anything Nora Roberts writes and this book did not disappoint! I can’t wait for the upcoming second book in this series. The secondary characters in this book enhance the story so much; I hope we see more of their stories in the next books.
Wow! Nora Roberts at her best! Love the characters, mixing present day in two different realms. As we known it and the land of fairies, witches, werewolves, dragons, etc. and god. Good trying to kept peace and harmony against evil. Bree is born of one world, but grows up in another, she has no knowledge of her previous life being brought to our world at the age of three. She does have dreams, but no idea what they mean. Her mother is a controlling person, always pointing out Bree’s failings. One day she discovers at her mother place papers that tells her she is rich! After years working 2 jobs, paying student loan, her apartment, etc. and her mother never told her. This starts a change of events that brings her to Ireland in search of her father that had setup the account. Also Leads her to find her grandmother and another world.
I listened to the audiobook and the best narration I never heard. She is wonderful and brings the story to life. Can’t wait to continue with the next book The Becoming.
Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #TheAwakening #NoraRoberts
Nora Roberts always brings such emotion and breath stealing storylines. I liked this first book in the trilogy, but don’t feel it is up to the same high standards she usually sets for herself. I own this book and will probably buy the next one hoping the story grabs me as her other fantasy trilogies have. Since the past year, 2020, has been so enervating for all of us, I imagine all of our creativity and drive has been a bit tamped down.
