Homicide Detective Ryan Clark has a problem. A prominent businessman has been assassinated by a drive-by shooting. Two weeks earlier another man, in the same industry, was shot and killed. He suspects the assassinations are related and calls an old friend with the FBI.When FBI profiler Special Agent Sean Kruger arrives at the scene of the second murder, he agrees with Clark but is hesitant to get … hesitant to get involved. After twenty-five years with the FBI, he is tired of the bureaucracy and politics of the job. His constant traveling has kept him away from the woman he loves and he is contemplating retiring to start a new life with her.
A week later, while home in Kansas City, the assassin strikes again. Only this time close to where he lives and suddenly the search becomes personal. With the help of JR Diminski, the computer genius from The Fugitive’s Trail, Kruger identifies a suspect and travels to Alabama for the arrest.
Politics and micromanaging complicate the situation. Kruger is ordered to wait, but disobeys and proceeds with the arrest. When everything goes horribly wrong, he is suspended by the Director of the FBI.
Now outside the protection of the agency, he must decide whether to walk away from his career or put his new marriage and life in danger by pursuing the assassin. An assassin whose ultimate goal is an attack in the center of the United States. An attack that will result in more innocent casualties than 9/11.

What a wild exciting ride that holds you spellbound from the drive by shooting that starts the book leaving you holding your breath asking why as the author lowly fills in the holes giving you a story that could be right out of the newspapers headlines. There is danger all around as first one person is shot and then another. The team is trying their best to fill in the gaps and find out what and who is behind it all, could this be one lonely man or is the plot bigger than anyone could guess? The author fills these pages with adventure of the unknown as the FBI Special Agent Sean Kruger turns to his old pal JR to piece together the puzzle as the world around them goes crazy. Homicide detective Ryan Clark goes to work with JR learning everything he can to find the footprints in the electrics they have found. The author holds you on the edge as the clues come in slowly and ex military set in motion a plot that could leave so many dead. Will they be too late to find the answers saving the marks that are to be taken out. What if they are wrong and thousands end up dead. This is a very exciting read with true emotions, as I was listening them working out about the motorcycle I was so drawn into the story that when a motorcycle past me I found myself wondering if he could be the killer. Shaking my head and telling myself I was being silly this was just a story and the poor man on the bike was just going home to his family. Knowing I was right didn’t stop my eyes from following him until he was out of sight.
The narrator does a wonderful job pulling the reader in giving a highly entertaining story making you hold your breath through all the danger and killing that holds you spellbound waiting to see where this will all lead. He knows how to show true emotion through his voice making the listener feel they are right there watching. His male voices are outstanding although some are close to others but you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. His female voices need a little work sometimes they sound more male than female. He pauses when he needs and speeds up to get the full excitement when it is called for. His normal voice is just as nice as his character voices, each of his character voices are smooth, clear as he gives it the right pitch to make you feel what the characters are feeling. There are no background noises, no volume changes, if any breaks were taken I could not tell. He really portrays the picture the author gave me by pulling you in through emotions and tones that holds your attention until the end.
I have no trouble at all in seeing this series made into a movie it would be filled with excitement, danger, adventure holding the watched in its grips until the end. I know I was so invested in this story that I didn’t want it to end. It was nice to see all the characters from the last story, meeting new ones and seeing how they all worked together. JR and Sean have been one of my favorites, I love how they work together, how JR pulls things out of thin air. There is a little drama that makes it realistic and believable a touch of family life just like a normal family with normal issues. Some new characters have been added to the mix as well as some that are not very smart that puts a little egg on the FBI’s face. I really loved the phone call when the director is talking to the president. I got a real big smile on my face and had no trouble picturing the faces of the agents and the big smiles they were wearing.
This is a great story filled with everything that makes a read exciting and a book you do not want to put down. I can see older teens and parents reading this comparing notes giving them some, one on one quality time pulling the family closer. If you like actions pack thrills with tons of excitement that has no trouble keeping you invested, then this is the story for you. I know I had a hard time putting it down.
