Missionary kid Elliot Ransom is restless after moving from her beloved Amazon home to a wealthy DC suburb. Though Storm River, Virginia, is beautiful, it’s also a playground for haughty politicians and wealthy playboys. She’s never felt so out of place.
Becoming an assistant to a hotshot private investigator changes everything . . .
Expecting to help with filing and background checks, Elliot is … checks, Elliot is shocked when she’s catapulted into the frontlines of a murder investigation instead. While trying to prove their client innocent, she’s forced from the administrative role she usually plays. The change is surprisingly invigorating.
Learning the art of investigating shouldn’t be so dangerous . . . but this case just might be as dicey as the new town Elliot is living in. Could a little harmless eavesdropping lead to a big disaster?

Yes, you must meet the newcomer to Christy Barritt’s inspirational suspense line. Elliot Ransom is sweet, funny, socially naive and a target for trouble. She is also smart, witty and a delight. Just wait until you join in her new adventures with a private investigation agency. I greatly anticipate future books in the Sidekick series.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
Awesome start to this brand new series!
Elliot grew up as a missionary kid, now she’s a…. spy?! You will definitely find yourself laughing at Elliot’s silly quirks, and on the edge of your seat when she finds herself in scary situations.
I loved this story and all the characters. This series is definitely off to a great start, and will leave you looking forward to the next new release to see what Elliot is up to next!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this new series but, as usual, Barritt doesn’t disappoint! You get caught up in the story from the first chapter, which for me is a plus. I was also intrigued by the main character’s name “Elliot” and was glad that “mystery” is explained. Lots of suspense, character quirks and close calls make this a book you won’t put down until you reach the end. I can’t wait to read the next one! I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
Elliot Ransom grew up in the South American jungle, where her mother was a missionary. Now she lives near Washington, DC, and finds work assisting a PI. She gets involved in a murder investigation, but might she end up a victim as she helps find the killer? This entertaining suspense novel opens with her first day on the job and catapults the reader into the action along with the protagonist. Told in the first person, the compelling story keeps readers in the midst of the action. This looks like the start of a wild new series that will make readers long for more. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Love love love this new series. A mystery, a really fun and real character and I am hooked! When does book 2 come out?
I’m loving the beginning of a new series by author Christy Barritt. Elliot Ransom grew up in the jungle, the daughter of missionaries. Circumstances brought her back to the US with her mother and sister and she is trying to find her way in a culture completely foreign to her. Wanting a challenge, Elliot takes a job with a PI, expecting to be doing filing or something else pretty routine, but is immediately thrown into an undercover gig that causes her to question what is ethical and puts her into danger. A quirky receptionist, a temperamental boss, an intriguing co-worker, and a handsome police detective makes for an interesting first case for this PI’s Sidekick. It’s sink or swim as she and her co-worker follow the clues. A fun read and looking forward to the second installment. I received a free copy of this book, but the opinions are my own.
New series that is another hit. The characters are great and the story line is magnificent. To take take a subject like eavesdropping and make a series out of it, but that is Christy Barritt. She can take anything and make it something fun to read. I loved the characters. It has a twist in it that makes you understand Elle a little better and I think it made Elle understand herself a little better. Get the book – you will not be sorry!
I absolutely loved the first book in this new series by Christy Barritt. Art of Eavesdropping is about Elliot, a missionary’s daughter, who moves to Storm River, Virginia with her sister and mother after her father has died. Elliot gets a job working for a private investigator. Elliot quickly gets thrown into a case to try to prove the innocence of their client and ends up getting in some pretty precarious situations. This story is told from the first person perspective of Elliot. As a reader, getting access to Elliot’s inner thoughts allowed me to get to know her better and made for some laugh out loud funny moments. As I have come to appreciate from a Christy Barritt book, there was lots of nail-biting suspense, quirky characters, witty conversations, and many pop culture references that reminded me of my youth. There was not a lot of romance in this story, but I am seeing the potential for some romantic encounters in future books in the series. Although the case Elliot is working on ends up being solved, there is a much more personal case that Elliot will be searching for answers in future books. I can’t say much more than that without giving too much away. I just can’t wait for the rest of the series!
I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
