A mesmerizing story of passionate awakening and redemption, Mary Balogh’s new novel unites a war hero consigned to darkness with a remarkable woman who finds her own salvation by showing him the light of love.
Desperate to escape his mother’s matchmaking, Vincent Hunt, Viscount Darleigh, flees to a remote country village. But even there, another marital trap is sprung. So when Miss Sophia Fry’s … when Miss Sophia Fry’s intervention on his behalf finds her unceremoniously booted from her guardian’s home, Vincent is compelled to act. He may have been blinded in battle, but he can see a solution to both their problems: marriage.
At first, quiet, unassuming Sophia rejects Vincent’s proposal. But when such a gloriously handsome man persuades her that he needs a wife of his own choosing as much as she needs protection from destitution, she agrees. Her alternative is too dreadful to contemplate. But how can an all-consuming fire burn from such a cold arrangement? As friendship and camaraderie lead to sweet seduction and erotic pleasure, dare they believe a bargain born of desperation might lead them both to a love destined to be?

I read this book years ago but as I got distracted from finishing the series, I decided to do a refresher going all of the way back to the beginning. I went the route of audio this time, with Rosalyn Landor leading the charge, and found I still really enjoy this book and series. It’s a little steamy and a whole lot of growing into one’s self. …
Of you get a chance read The Suitor first lays plot to this. Vincent runs away from home to prove he can be independent (with the help of Martin his frient/valet) even if he is blind and doesn’t need his mother or sisters to “Take care of him” or make decisions for him! So his first real challenge gets him betrothed as honor dictates! Just a great …
A waif of a girl who is ignored and neglected and a young man blinded during battle, but longing for independence from his coddling family who push him toward a marriage he doesn’t want come to an understanding through an arrangement that will benefit them both or does it?
I have enjoyed this author’s writing for years and was eager to try this …
I loved this book. It’s my favorite!! Two people who marry for convenience. But as they get to know each other affection and love grows!
Yep. My third Re-read. Or wait, I guess that is my second Re-read as there is just the Read initially then ….
Anyhoo, still charming, still well written. Wonderful MOC romance where two likable and not boring characters fall in love. Bumping to 4 stars.
Making a liar out of me regarding a recent post, but what we have here is a slow-burn, …
I’ve never been disappointed with a Mary Balogh novel. She builds characters that step off the page and become real to me. Relationships have problems and misunderstandings (as we expect in a good romance), but always a satisfactory ending.
Oh did I ever enjoy this book. Sophia and Vincent make the perfect combination. Him being blind has not baring on how Sophie feels about him. He is her champion just as much as she is his angel. She finds ways for him to take charge of his life again and it is just amazing the things he can now do after being married to him for a few short months.
Mary Balogh is the best in historical romance. Any book she writes draws me like a magnet and doesn’t let me go. Although I never want to finish a book by Balogh, at least I know I can reread the book as many times as I want!
I might have said this before, but Mary Balogh is the queen of Regency Romance. The Arrangement is from her Survivor’s Club series, a series I especially like because although the main characters are all damaged in some way, they find a way through it and are better people in the end.
I have to be honest I was a little worried when I started this book. After reading The Proposal (book 1) and finding it lacking, I had prepared myself for a long winded, boring read when I picked up this book. I am so glad I gave Mary Balogh another chance. I loved The Arrangement. This book was so sweet. Vincent Hunt was everything I love in a …
