After eluding a kidnapper in London, an unperturbed Amelia Peabody accompanies her unconventional family to Cairo once more—only to be ensnared almost immediately in a web of stolen treasures and bloodthirsty cults. Villainy is running rampant in Egypt this 1907 archaeological season, but the members of the intrepid Peabody-Emerson clan have already proven themselves to be formidable adversaries. … adversaries. However, when a mint-condition papyrus of the Book of the Dead falls into their hands, and the corpse of an unscrupulous dealer in stolen antiquities is found floating in the Nile, the Emersons’ prospects for surviving this excavation season unscathed appear increasingly dim.

I love Elizabeth Peters
I love this whole series and all the characters as you follow them through their mysterious and often amusing adventures.
Truly an enjoyable read. Interesting characters, page turning plot. A stay up all night read!
loved the series, read twice
As an Archaeologist myself, Peters personal background adds to her writing in special ways, and gives an interesting look at Archaeology in its early days…she’s great.
This was a fun and entertaining read. It included a lot of interesting history about Egypt.
Elizabeth Peter’s books are always marvelous and this is one of the better ones.
Read this series long ago….very entertaining and descriptive
Not enough action. Author relying on detail of Brits of that era (early 20th century) and history of robbing Egyptian tombs. I seldom abandon a story, but I didn’t see this one through to the end. Somehow I just didn’t care.
Amelia Peabody and archeological husband are fantastic interesting characters. Their adventures teach readers a bit about Excavations of Egypt’s cultural tombs and artifacts.
Love this series. After reading the first book in the series, Crocodile On The Sandbank, I developed an interest in Egypt and its history. These books are amusing also. There’s always a lot going on in the story. Think anyone would enjoy reading this series.
I found myself in Maryland with time on my hands but not enough freedom for sight seeing. Thank goodness for the wonderful library and the librarian who introduced me to their native writer, Elizabeth Peters. I enjoyed her series and would read them again. Sometimes you just need to be entertained and she does it well
My favorite author, love this series…
Another lovely Amelia Peabody mystery! Grab your whiskey and soda, and enjoy!
Well written by an author who is an egyptologist and knows what’s she’s talking about in a delightful mystery.
Amelia Peabody is one of my favorites!
loved all her books, miss her.
Elizabeth Peters is simply the best at writing clever historic mysteries.
I love th Amelia Peabody series with its archeology setting.
Anything Elizabeth Peters writes is worth reading. Enough said.
