NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This vibrant, tender, and moving tale pulses with the excitement of New York City, as Danielle Steel explores twists of fate, and the way that sometimes, in special places, friends can be the family we need most. They come together by chance in the heart of New York City, four young women at turning points in their lives. Claire Kelly finds the walk-up apartment—a … walk-up apartment—a spacious loft in Hell’s Kitchen. But the aspiring shoe designer needs at least one roommate to manage it. She meets Abby Williams, a writer trying to make it on her own, far away from her successful family in L.A. Four years later, Morgan Shelby joins them. She’s ambitious, with a serious finance job on Wall Street. Then Sasha Hartman, a medical student whose identical twin sister is a headline-grabbing supermodel. And so the sprawling space, with its exposed brick and rich natural light, becomes a home to friends about to embark on new, exhilarating adventures.
Frustrated by her ultra-conservative boss, Claire soon faces a career crisis as a designer. Abby is under the spell of an older man, an off-off-Broadway producer who exploits her and detours her from her true talent as a novelist, while destroying her self-confidence. Morgan is happily in love with a successful restaurateur who supplies her roommates with fine food. At her office, she begins to suspect something is off about her boss, a legendary investment manager whom she’s always admired. But does she even know him? And Sasha begins an all-work-no-play residency as an OB/GYN, as her glamorous jet-set sister makes increasingly risky decisions.
Their shared life in the apartment grounds them as they bring one another comfort and become a family of beloved friends. Unexpected opportunities alter the course of each of their lives, and as they meet the challenges, they face the bittersweet reality that in time, they will inevitably move away from the place where their dreams began.

Danielle Steel does not disappoint! I could not put the book down feeling like I lived with these women and lived through their experiences. She makes her characters real. For as many novels that she has written Steel keeps her characters and plots fresh and exciting.
Danielle Steele never disappoints. She always writes about interesting characters with storylines that won’t let you stop reading. Lots of detail about New York City.
This is very different from other of Steele’s books I’ve read. There were four ladies who lived together in the apartment and it was the story of each of them and their immediate families. It kept you interested in all of their lives, happy and sad moments. Very good read!!!
It’s been a while since I have read a Danielle Steele book. When my eyesight was better I often had one in my purse when traveling for work. I had forgotten how much I enjoy her books. This one did not dissapoint.
I finished it, but almost gave up before I did. Nothing really exciting about the book. Definitely have read better books by Steele.
Danielle Steele is the best storyteller. I had not read one of her books for over 20 years, I am so happy that I started reading her books again. They are satisfying!
I enjoyed the book, but the ending was so predictable.
Wonderful book. Easy to read and follow.
Easy read, fun the winter months!
I’ve read other Steele novels which I’ve liked a lot more.
Wonderful, entertaining, true to life, page turner. You easily become invested in these characters and root for them from beginning to end!
Highly recommend. Easy read and keeps you in the story very easily. One of her best!
It was a great book, I really enjoyed it.
Danielle Steel writes the best stories! You just jump in from the first page and feel like you are part of the story and know all the people. There are hard things, but it doesn’t make me feel anxious….you know it will all work out. Her books are so original, each one is different, and not predictable. I love when I have a new one.
I hate to seem critical, but this book was totally disappointing! As I told my kids, it was like reading a book about my everyday life–not to say my life was anything like theirs! But it was just ordinary, somewhat mundane? I had read books by Danielle Steel years ago and enjoyed them, but this one? Not so much! The characters were great, very enjoyable and believable. The course of their year was hmmmm, I almost said “interesting” but that’s not quite true. I read it in a day because I wanted to get to the end, not because it was a thrilling “page turner”. Additionally, I found the editing to be a bit “off”. There were numerous, commas, in places, they didn’t, quite belong, to the extent that I began ignoring her punctuation to see if that helped. It didn’t.
The apartment is a story of 4 women with varied occupations. Each is thoroughly introduced and the relationships between the women are developed. There are several unexpected developments but everyone is destined to live happily ever after. Heartbreak, intrigue and romance.
The apartment by Danielle Steel
Very interesting book about 4 women, from different backgrounds and working in 4 different fields.
Shoe designer, wall street investor, obgyn doctor and a screen writer.
We get to not only learn about their careers but also how they get along with one another and help each other out.
Fascinating they live in an apartment above a Hell’s Kitchen bar-I’ve watched movies about this area and found them cool to see.
One also has a model twin, another has a gay brother who visits and others are going through different stages of dating.
When things go wrong there’s lots of action, adventure, drugs, embezzlement, romance and travel-something for everyone.
Love this author’s books. Bit confusing at times as there are four main characters and they come with relatives and friends.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
A fan of all of her books, this one did not disappoint.
Four women come together as roommates and live together for years. Each is so different in their careers, careers challenges, and family backgrounds. They form a bond that only true B.F.F.’s can share. You get a chance in this book to follow a Doctor,a writer,a designer and a wall street hot shot. Each has respect for the others and step up to the plate when one is in need of support. There are good and bad Love triangles. The ending makes you smile and think of your B.F.F.
