1974/5: After the Revolution of the Carnations, Portugal is transformed into a communist state. Capitalists are ruthlessly persecuted and the liberated Portuguese colony of Angola is thrust into one of the bloodiest civil wars in history. The fabled Angolan diamond mines are closed down, but not before a group of refugees escape with a hoard of the precious gems. Their lives promise wealth and … success, but a legacy of revenge and greed will eventually find them all, with fatal consequences.. 2008: A millionaire businessman drowns in the swimming pool of his mansion in Marbella; a wealthy Frenchman is killed while skiing in the Swiss Alps; and a Portuguese playboy and a prostitute are found murdered together in a seedy New York apartment. The series of seemingly unconnected deaths sets two women Jenny Bishop, a young English widow, and Angolan born Leticia da Costa on a terrifying journey into the past to revisit the Portuguese revolution and the Angolan civil war. Together they begin to unlock a 30 year old mystery that promises to change their lives forever if they survive to reveal the truth. THE ANGOLAN CLAN takes the reader on a heart-stopping roller coaster ride, from past to present and back again. It is a deadly intercontinental treasure hunt laced with secrets, deceit and murder. The prize is a fortune in Angolan diamonds..or death at the hands of a pathological killer.

This book was such a surprise to me. It was very entertaining and knowledgeable. It takes place, mainly in Spain but also in Angola. The story deals with multi generations and multi cultures with many surprising twists and turns. You won’t be disappointed.
Too bloody and full of sex.
It’s a very long book and you think it’s over but it’s not, so you keep reading and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s just very long and too descriptive.
Would give it more stars if I could. Strong story, believable.
Some years I lived in Angola, so this was interesting to me, many of the local characters were well defined and typical of the time.
Great read
Greatly impressed by this book, enjoyed it although the plot was just a confused and twisted as real life in Angola and Portugal during the period must have been. This starts as a narrative of the downfall of the military regime in Portugal, the independence and civil wars erupting in their former colonies in Africa, and finally ends as a murder mystery involving ‘conflict diamonds,’ Swiss banking and millions in questionable gains. All told a gripping story.
I kept hoping and waiting for this book to get better. It never did. Too many characters thrown at you with little or no connection. Some connections were revealed, others just fizzled out. The one twist at the end was not enough for me to recommend this book at all.
I would highly recommend this book for ‘edge of the seat’ suspense. We’ll done!
The novel starts at the beginning and at times is hard to follow. But it’s about a war and how misinformation can lead to such drastic events. It’s also so sad that loved ones knew so little about each other.
Extremely violent including sexual violence and assault, which at times overwhelms the plot – too bad because it has a lot of potential as a good story and thriller.
This book was interesting from a historical perspective. I was beaten senseless by the senseless machinations of main and minor characters. There was way too hard a sell on the “Charlie” character. It wasn’t a complete waste of time, but I think the author could do so much better with his world knowledge and writing abilities.
characters and geographic areas are intertwined. sometimes difficult to follow.
Was a great story, and a great read.
I loved it, hated to put it down as it was so interesting and informative. Very sad story but this kind of book is a must read as it tells about a part of recent history that is shameful to Europe and not widely well known. It is very well written.
I really expected to enjoy this book. After all, it said it was exciting and I would learn about an important event in history. Try as I might, I couldn’t get “connected” to any of the characters, it seemed to just drag along, no excitement was there. To me, the story just moved through time, but it never made me feel sorry, Happy, or glad over any of the people.
I love historical books, and long ones, but I’m afraid I won’t ever recommend this book to any of my friends.
Had my heart beating overtime. Great ending!
I did not know much about the diamond industry, but the internal conflicts in Africa will make your head spin. A complicated plot with lots of twists and turns!!
The ending was a bit of a twist and unexpected as well. Loved the book.
Haven’t finished yet. Too long. Enjoying the story but find it tedious.
Great read…sad history…can’t wait to read the next in this trilogy
