From the author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Sphere comes a captivating thriller about a deadly extraterrestrial microorganism, which threatens to annihilate human life. Five prominent biophysicists have warned the United States government that sterilization procedures for returning space probes may be inadequate to guarantee uncontaminated re-entry to the atmosphere. Two years later, a probe … Two years later, a probe satellite falls to the earth and lands in a desolate region of northeastern Arizona. Nearby, in the town of Piedmont, bodies lie heaped and flung across the ground, faces locked in frozen surprise. What could cause such shock and fear? The terror has begun, and there is no telling where it will end.

Normally I like his books, but this one puts me to sleep.
I read this book when it was first published many years ago – Re-read it recently and it still gave me goosebumps!
This book was probably great, in 1980.
It is a good book and the author is well prepared to discuss this topic.
One of my favorite sci-fi books
A classic!
I loved every page of this book, until the end. The ending of The Andromeda Strain broke my heart. It should be one of my favorite books but the ending is ridiculous. Just know what you are getting into when you start this.
Read this long ago, so obviously not in digital form, but it’s a classic.
Read this as a teen and found it both scary and riv eting.
Leading edge at the time of its release.
Interesting hard science fiction novel.
Great. Author paints a great picture.
A ground breaking sci-fi. A must read.
I always enjoy a good Michael Crichton book, and this was another win for me. There is a lot of build up that helped to fully inform the reader as to what was going on and what the stakes were, which in turn made the climax that much more effective. My only issue was the conclusion and how it wrapped up a little too easily.
Be forewarned: there is a lot of technical writing used in explaining the science (like, so much that there is a bibliography at the end filled with science journals and academic references).
More of a Science text book than a story.
This book was just not for me. It has so much science in it, it kept loosing me.
Older read but still so good.
Too much technical jargon.
Thought it was very interesting
The end is weak
