The murder of his former girlfriend, Sharon Lee, has been solved, and surgeon Richard Kurtz has finally managed to put the past behind him, settling back into a routine of teaching medical students and residents and taking care of patients. He has a new love interest in graphic artist Lenore Brinkman and life has seemingly returned to normal when Rod Mahoney, an anatomy professor at Staunton … College of Medicine, is found brutally murdered in his office.
Lew Barent has seen a lot of dead bodies in his job as a homicide detective but even he is horrified by what has been done to Rod Mahoney. Richard Kurtz had been reluctantly drawn into the investigation of Sharon Lee’s death but his assistance had proven to be vital. Barent is confident that he can count on Kurtz once again, even more so when he discovers that Mahoney and Kurtz were old friends.
Rod Mahoney had led a quiet life, with a happy family and a job that he loved. Mahoney had no obvious enemies but somebody had hated him enough to murder him and to tear his body into pieces. Determined to discover who killed Rod Mahoney, and why, Kurtz and Barent suddenly find themselves investigating a twisted tale of bitter regret and decades-old revenge. But powerful forces don’t want this murder solved, and Kurtz finds that while he is hunting a murderer, the murderer is hunting him.

Another great read from Dr. Robert Katz
I’ve read this author before and enjoyed this novel. Dr. Robert Katz’s Anatomy Lesson is a fast-paced murder mystery suspense and medical thriller rolled into one. His protagonist, general surgeon Kurt has once again found romance in his life and is settling back into normalcy when an anatomy professor is brutally murdered in his office. The murder is particularly heinous and gruesome and Kurtz finds himself, not surprisingly, central in the investigation.Once again Dr. Katz has managed to keep the reader engaged and involved in the story with a complex plot with many twists and turns. The characters are well developed and believable, the dialogue good and the scenes well-written. I highly recommend this book if you like medical thrillers and a bit gore in your mysteries.
Readers who love mysteries take a gamble when they start a new series. Will they like the protagonists? Is the plot engaging? Will they be surprised at the end? And most important, at least for me, is the novel well-written? Happily, Robert Katz’s The Anatomy Lesson, scores high on all the answers. I must admit I was surprised to see a homicide detective team up with a surgeon to solve the gruesome murder of an anatomy professor, but the relationship between the two turned out to be credible. They’ll probably never be best friends, but the respect between them was evident. The plot was sufficiently complex, and the resolution, although it seemed a bit rushed, was a surprise. Best of all, Katz is a smooth elegant writer, and it was a pleasure to spend time with his well-drawn characters. Recommended.
Okay so this was a interesting book to read. Kept me pulled into it. Five star book and I already know a few people to recommend this book to. Didn’t take long for me to read this book. I do plan on rereading it later on this year but being this the first time reading from this author has me very curious about his other books he has written.
The general physician Kurtz seems to have a knack of finding trouble and dead bodies all the time.
This time he finds the anatomy professor killed.
The characters, the mystery and the twists and turns were enjoyable all the way through. Liked it.
I loved this book. It is the first one in this series and by this author I have read, but it won’t be the last. Kurtz is a general surgeon who seems to find trouble. He is again helping the police with a murder involving a friend of his and things don’t always go so great for him. Rod Mahoney is an anatomy professor at a college in New York. He seems like a nice quiet guy but he ends up dead in a most gruesome manner. Could this be related to the anatomy lab “misadventure” at a recent Halloween party or is there more to it? You will have to read to find out. I enjoy the characters in this book and the style of writing. The characters are well developed, likable (or not as the case may be), and believable. I enjoyed the story line. It brought back memories of my husband’s gross anatomy class in college and the stories he tells. I would like to thank the author and Booksprout for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book. I look forward to more in this series.
This is the second book in the series and having not read the first book, I struggled with the characters. It was not a bad read but I just had trouble getting interested in the characters since I knew there was more of their background. I have read this author before and usually really love his books.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
