This by far was a book that I enjoyed. Mrs. Wanda combines little of everything to form it into a great story. Although it had me feeling sad, crying and sometimes wanting to reach in the book and shake Joel hard I kept reading it and reading it to see what happened next. Each story had it’s surprises. I enjoyed this story because it sometimes life is like it. You’re happy one moment than something out of the blue happens to shake the ground under you. And here it showed how anyone even when you are in communication with God daily you do feel like Why??, but at the same moment you know God has a purpose for that.
This story is about Joel, an Amish young man that growing up wanted MORE but money wise. His dad who wanted always was best for his children although a little strict. His 3 sisters who loved him despite his distance from him. And the young love that he left behind to follow the main love he had money. And finally the young girl who with the help of an elderly woman who told her to pray for him, she cared for him. Joel’s focus was that Money was everything. He hurt his family, two young girls that he cared for besides hurting himself. But money had him so blind it took some many sad events and a tragic one to shake him up and not only see but accept that without God in his heart he was going nowhere and money was not everything but an evil selfish making sin. At the end all though I had my doubts he would change he did and made things right. Sometimes wanting something is not what God has in stored for you and sometimes is in a different way you will come to it. Is a great 6 stories in one that you will enjoy. Keeps you feeling connected to the story. Highly recommended for your library collection. Thank you Mrs Wanda for this great story.
Such a good writer. The plot is different from the normal. I love the nice family relationships. I love these story because it makes you feel warm and loved.
I have seen the book offered in ‘serial novel’ form in 6 little books, but this is all-in-one and the stories fit together seamlessly. The reader will follow the life and plight of a prodigal son in Holmes County, Joel Byler, whose struggles and situations affect everyone around him. Joel learns many important life lessons along the way, and so do his family and friends. Wanda Brunstetter is a master of combining Amish and English (non-Amish) into one story, which makes it relatable and so very heartwarming! This book is no different, and the different viewpoints throughout the story really let the reader understand each character thoroughly. There is happiness and heartbreak, sickness and wellness, death and life, and struggle and victory. It is a page turner for sure!
The Amish Millionaire is a compilation of the 6 novellas that were released separately by Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. It was so nice to read the entire series in one book, as each story ended with a cliff hanger. The Amish Millionaire is the story of the Byler’s family and especially Joel who left his family for the English world. Joel’s separation from the family and his focus only on his desires without the consequences for his finances made this an interesting read. The depth and detail of each family member and character in this series brought this Amish fiction to life as well as their love for their brother to return home. Without giving away any spoilers, I would encourage fans of Amish fiction to read this book to see how life can be cut short along with finding inner peace through God’s love and truly caring for others.
I borrowed this book from our library, thus a review was not required. However, I have expressed my own opinion.
I was surprised by this series. I liked how Wanda told a story about a man who left the Amish and then eventually was able to find his Faith again and reconnect with his Amish family. He went through some hard times but it helped him find out what his Father really wanted for his son. It showed that money isn’t everything!
The Amish Millionaire Collection is a series of six books written by Wanda Brunstetter and her daughter-in-law Jean Brunstetter. The six books in the series are Book 1 The English Son Book Two The Stubborn Father Book Three The Betra;yed Fiancee Book Four The Missing Will Book Five The Divided Family and Book Six The Selfless Act.
The books center around Joel Byler, who has left the Amish community and his family. Joel has over extended himself by buying an very expensive car and he asks his father, Eustance Byler and eccentric, wealthy Amish widower for money time an time again. When Eustance suddenly dies, the family hunts for his will, but before any of the children receive their inheritance, Joel must perform an “Selfless Act” that has to be approved by his aunt and his sisters.
Joel also puts his relationship with his fiancée Kristi Palmer on the line when he takes money out of their joint bank account without her knowledge.
I highly recommend that you read The Amish Millionaire Collection. It is a story of how this family deals with loss, sickness and disaster and how a family member learns to think of others before himself. The book also has a recipe for Millionaire’s Pie at the back
