Beloved heroine Maisie Dobbs, “one of the great fictional heroines” (Parade), investigates the mysterious murder of an American war correspondent in London during the Blitz in a page-turning tale of love and war, terror and survival. When Catherine Saxon, an American correspondent reporting on the war in Europe, is found murdered in her London digs, news of her death is concealed by British … concealed by British authorities. Serving as a linchpin between Scotland Yard and the Secret Service, Robert MacFarlane pays a visit to Maisie Dobbs, seeking her help. He is accompanied by an agent from the US Department of Justice—Mark Scott, the American who helped Maisie escape Hitler’s Munich in 1938. MacFarlane asks Maisie to work with Scott to uncover the truth about Saxon’s death.
As the Germans unleash the full terror of their blitzkrieg upon the British Isles, raining death and destruction from the skies, Maisie must balance the demands of solving this dangerous case with her need to protect Anna, the young evacuee she has grown to love and wants to adopt. Entangled in an investigation linked to the power of wartime propaganda and American political intrigue being played out in Britain, Maisie will face losing her dearest friend—and the possibility that she might be falling in love again.

I’ve been a fan of Maisie Dobbs since book one. With each book Winspear raises the stakes.
Maisie Dobbs never disappoints. This book finds her in the thick of WW2 London, once again with Maisie juggling her job as an investigator with her duty to the war effort. Another wonderful entry in the amazing series!
This latest book in the Maisie Dobbs mystery series is in a word – perfect! So very well written and interesting. As a fan of this author, I have read all the books in this series as soon as they are published. I especially like the ending of the American Agent where Maisie is finally getting some well deserved happiness.
Every Maisie Dobbs book is a terrific read.
World War II always seems the ideal setting for stirring novels and “The American Agent” is one of my favorites for 2019. A young female correspondent has been murdered while covering the German blitzkrieg, and Maisie Dobbs has been assigned to solve the crime. Winspear nicely captures the tumult of the air raids and people’s desire to seize moments of normalcy where and whenever they can. Other books in the series ought to be worth a look as well.
it is part of a series of books and I’ve never been disappointed. It is well written with compelling characters. I found the first book in this series on Book Bub Thank you, Book Bub

Oh my GOODNESS!!!! This one just broke my heart and wrenched it in two. I cannot even imagine living through the blitz and then going on with life when the war was over. This one was just heartbreaking. So. Many. Tears.
Excellent! Sweet, sad wartime story. Page-turning mystery. A touch of romance.
Love the Maisie Dobbs series
Love Maisie Dobbs!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire MAisie Dobbs series.
A long series – hard to put down
Can’t go wrong with this author.
Love this whole series.
Excellent depiction of life during the London blitz. Kept the reader guessing about the murderer until the last chapters. So glad Maisie, who can be a bit of a stiff at times, allowed love into her life.
Winspear is a wonderful writer!
This latest Maisie Dobbs is spook-y (sorry!) and fascinating
I have most if not all of this series. they are excellent reading and give you a realistic look at the role of women in that era.
Have read entire series and may read again. I am fascinated by the time frame before WWI and through WWII in the UK.
I have read all her books and if you enjoy a “soft mystery” this is the perfect series.
