Richard VanRyan has it all.A loving wife, a beautiful family, great friends, and a career he excels at.He’s riding high on the crest of life. What happens when the ride stops? When the unthinkable becomes reality and life may never again be the same? The Contract has changed. Can Richard and Katy overcome The Amendment?
Melanie Moreland broke my heart and yet she managed to piece it back together. After reading the Amendment, I have a whole new perspective and also a whole new appreciation of Richard. I highly recommend that you read the first two books, The Contract and The Baby Clause to get the whole story. You will not want to miss one moment of this epic story. You will be fully impressed with the changes that Richard has experienced, the long winding road he has had to traverse to come to this point in his life where we have learned to finally LOVE him and he has finally learned that he is worthy to be loved. I recommend that you allow yourself a sleepless night to read this book as you will not want to put it down and also be sure to have a box of tissues handy as well. You will need them
I received a review copy before release for an honest review.
This book is book 3 in the series and I would suggest you read book 1 The Contract first and if you read it awhile ago I suggest you re-read it as I did. This was a very different book than I have read before and at times it was painful. Expect to shed some tears.
On one hand I knew something major happened and I was very nervous about who and what that thing was. When it happened I so was not expecting it. It changed every single character in this story and the author did not take any easy routes. She wrote a painful and interesting story and gave every character some great challenges.
One aspect I loved is that we get to see the crew from BAM, who are Richard’s friends. We also get to see a lot of the Gavin Group and family and I loved how close they all are still. It also introduces a new character, Brad and I hope the author writes a story for him because I fell hard for him.
GOODNESS GRACIOUS THIS BOOK!!!!
If you haven’t read The Contract and Baby Clause, DO IT NOW!!! You need Richard and Katy in your life!!! I was so nervous going into The Amendment, I knew Melanie would just break me, and she did. She broke me, (I knowwww, HOW DARE SHE?!!!) and put my crushed heart back together.
Richard and Katy’s relationship is what every couple strives to be. They are equal partners, so loving, so EVERYTHING to each other. They love so hard, so much. I don’t want to say too much, because it will spoil it for you, but you see The Gavin Group crew, the BAM boys, Gracie and Heather are just adorable!!!!! The lisp!!!! Be still my heart. This is such a perfect addition to their love story. As much as I wanted to shake Richard, as much as I boo hoo’d for this couple, hands down, this is one of my favorite reads this year! LOVE LOVE LOVE. Fantastically written, these two are just EVERYTHING
and I’ve fallen in deeper with Richard. Sighhhh…..Well done Melanie
This is the 3rd book in The Contract series, the others must be read before this to understand what is going on…. and it’s been a while since I first read about Richard and Katy, but I went into this book blind not knowing what was going to happen, and to be honest I can’t really tell you much in this review as it will spoil it for you! I had my guesses as to what was going to happen, but I was very wrong, and this story will take you on one hell of an emotional ride!!
Richard couldn’t be any happier than where is he is now, how he has changed his life completely around from the jerk he used to be. He is now a husband to Katy, who he loves with all his heart, and a father to two little girls, who he adores. He loves working at the Gavin Group, being a part of their family and being friends, or even more like brothers, to the BAM men who are his clients. But fate has a way of stepping in and dealing you a hand you never expected…..
You’re definitely going to need some tissues for this one, I had tears flowing in several places that just wouldn’t stop while I tried reading the blurry print!! The feels in this one, oh my goodness, my heart was shredded several times over!!
This is all about love and friendships and family, and I just love how Melanie has combined the characters from her other books into this one, and the epilogue will just blow you away. Such a fab emotional read, you can’t go wrong with this…. just make sure you’ve read the others first.
We have watched Katy and Richard’s relationship evolve from their questionable beginning into a love unlike any other we have seen. The evolution of Richard from when we first met him to now is enough to make you swoon. He has not only has he opened his heart to Katy and his girls, but they are his reason for everything he does but a twist in their life could derail everything if they don’t find a way to deal with it as a couple.
Full of emotion it was wonderful to not only catch up with Katy, Richard and the girls but to catch up with the other characters we know and love as well. This is a beautiful story about what happens after you fall in love and get married. Life throws challenges at you that will either bring you together or tear you apart and it is how you handle those challenges that makes your love and relationships stronger.
Being married is a not 50/50; it is both parties working each day. But what happens when your life gets thrown an obstacle? Do you fight for love or do you let life control its destiny. This story had that all and I am in complete awe.

When I heard there was a new Richard story I admit I was happy but also scared to see the old Richard return.
Melanie Moreland has come up with a story where emotions are on the forefront, happiness, love and joy, then fear, anger and heartbreak but in true Melanie fashion she brings it back.
Richard and Katy’s journey this time is hard, though you can almost sympathize with his anger. The surrounding cast of characters show us family isn’t always blood.
An engaging, beautiful story
I loved Richard and Katy in The Contract (it was actually my first introduction to this author), and I adored The Baby Clause as well as the brief appearances Richard has made in the Vested Interest series, so I was excited to hear Richard and Katy were getting another book of their own. Note that while technically you could probably read this as a standalone, reading The Contract first really sets the stage, with bonus points for reading the Vested Interest books—not required, imo, but nice background material.
I’d seen enough beforehand to know that this was going to be a rough road for Katy and Richard, but even without that, the author did a great job building anticipation. I want to avoid spoilers, so I’m not going to go into much detail, but I will say I was shocked by what happened and my heart broke for both Katy and Richard, but especially Katy, as events caused Richard to regress to some of the a-hole type behavior we saw when we first met him. Knowing Richard HAD to redeem himself somehow (and knowing there was a good man buried underneath the pain) made sure I kept turning those pages as I was cheering for things to work out for them.
The relationships with and between all the great secondary characters added so much to the book for me as their (sometimes tough) love, support, and humor help Richard and Katy find their way. Gracie was adorable, members of the Gavin Group took on their usual roles, and I loved the brief appearance of new character Doris and her take-no-sh*t attitude. As a Vested Interest series fan, I was especially delighted to get appearances by several characters from the BAM family.
An engaging, beautiful story about love, pain, support, forgiveness, and, above all, family, I loved this story about Richard and Katy’s continuing journey just as much as the first one, which I hardly thought was possible. And that epilogue was perfect; kudos to the author. 5+ stars

It has taken me forever and a day to write this review. My struggle was with if I write this review, I have to finally let go of these characters as those I know in Romancelandia refuse to. If truth be known, I am one of those bugging the author for more. More Katy. More of their lives. More Richard. That man I couldn’t figure out how this storyteller in The Contract was going to make me like him much less love him.
I did… I love him. I love his story.
Richard is one of the most challenging character arcs for a reader to watch. You wonder how this man – this man who is so unapologetic about his behavior can learn to love. He finds Katy. This woman who – I seriously wondered how she could tolerate him. But the more you get lost in their world, the more you come to understand the whys and – damn it – you WANT them to have a HEA which they get – and you laugh with- in The Baby Clause.
Anytime I am bored with my reading selection, I pick up The Contract/The Baby Clause to binge in. Not because fake romance/enemies to lovers is my favorite trope. Because the brilliance of the storytelling keeps me mesmerized in the tale. Like another reader friends states – it’s my GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
I became giddy when Richard and Katy showed up in Maddox (major fist bumps with romance friends) and in Reid. He was still Richard, and Katy was still keeping him in line. How could their story possibly be better?
OH.MY.GOODNESS!
I mean what possibly could the author give us? Grocery shopping? More holidays? She gives us that. Melanie Moreland paints a beautiful picture of a man – a man who never dreamed of this life – a wonderful family of marriage and friends. As we all know, life isn’t without challenges. What happens when the unthinkable does? How do the characters react?
It is real, raw and emotional. I will not lie. It gripped my heart and kept me devouring page after page.
My GOAT just got better in more ways than I could imagine.
Thank you Melanie Moreland for writing not only this couple again for Romancelandia to enjoy. But gifting us another incredible story.
5 plus STARS
The Amendment by Melanie Moreland delivers all the feels!
I absolutely loved Richard and Katy, and to get a chance to revisit these characters was amazing.
But I never expected all the feels Moreland would deliver!
She keeps her reader on the edge of their seats, and takes us for a ride of our lives!
You will absolutely love this book and know that true love conquers all!
5 Stars
The Amendment is book three in The Contract series by Melanie Moreland. If you are like me, you already fell in love with Richard and Katy in the first two books in this series. Going in to this book, I had no idea what so ever what Melanie had planned for this couple next. I had a couple of guesses but was completely wrong. So, this review is going to be a little different than some of my others. Because there really isn’t much I can tell you without spoiling anything. I want you to go in the same way I did.
Richard VanRyan couldn’t be happier. His life with the wife he loves more than he ever could have imagined, Katy, has given him two beautiful daughters. Now three year old Gracie who has my heart with her cute lisp and their infant daughter, Heather. Things at work at The Gavin Group, are going beyond fantastic. Richard is a changed man. He loves his family with every fiber of his being. They are his world. The man he once was is a distant memory. Life, though, has a way of throwing you a curve ball when you least expect it.
“Before her, I was nothing. With her, because of her, I had the world.”
I am writing this review directly after finishing the book. I am feeling so much right now. My heart is so full. I have to mention that once again, Melanie has written the best epilogue ever. I may have said that a time or two in other reviews for her books but I think this is the best one yet. One thing I took away from this book is that “family” has nothing to do with blood ties. It has everything to do with emotional ties. Richard had no experience with the emotion love before Katy. Now, not only does he have a wonderful wife and children, he has his family at work, the Gavins, who are the parents and siblings he never had. He has the men from BAM, Maddox especially, who is his closest friend. The bunch of them are more like brothers to him.
You might need a tissue or three for this book. I did. I can’t seem to get enough of these characters, of The Gavins, The VanRyans, the Bam men and their wives. That’s what Melanie Moreland’s books do to me. Her characters live on in my heart. I hope that in some way in the future, I’m going to get the chance to enjoy more of these characters. For now, though, I hope you are ready, for The Amendment.
Favorite Quotes:
Love is filled with second chances, Richard. If I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t have answered the phone.
It’s amazing how clear the view can be when one pulls his head out of his ass.
Perks of being Gramps. I turn them over to you when they smell or get too loud.
My Review:
I adore this loving couple, they bring the sizzle to the sheets and when things are good, the fire department needs to be on standby. But we all know that Richards can also be Dicks, and this Richard past and present definitely fit every definition of that moniker.
This book started with the family man and loving husband Richard, on top of his game, successful in his career, newly promoted, and happily married with an intelligent, supportive, and spunky wife; but a drunk driver put a pin in that Richard. When he awoke from a coma, he discovered he had been in a horrific accident, which would put him in a wheelchair and in turn, conjured up an angry and obnoxious Dick who appeared hell-bent on imploding Richard’s perfect life. Richard would have to put in a lot of groveling and hard work to find his way back from Dicklandia. Luckily those tasty and enticing boys from BAM flew in and had his back.
Ms. Moreland’s engaging storylines were well-balanced in emotional tone and written from my favorite dual POV. Her writing was laced with perceptive insights, a sweetly precocious child, witty levity, heart-squeezes, a large cast of endearing characters, and steamy sensuality that had me gasping and nudging up the speed on the ceiling fan.
I became an automatic one-click reader of Melanie Moreland’s after reading “The Contract” several years ago. Since then, I’ve read her entire Vested Interest series, and always got a little giddy whenever Richard Van Ryan made a cameo appearance. Now, at long last, we’ve been treated to the continuation of Richard and Katy’s steamy and unconditional love story with “The Amendment”.
This novel picks up several years into the Van Ryan’s HEA, where life couldn’t be better for this couple. Their passion still burns brightly, they have two amazing daughters, and Richard’s advertising career is thriving. There is no doubt that these two are devoted to one another, but even the happiest marriage must endure troubled times, and “The Amendment” is Richard and Katy’s ultimate test.
I refuse to give any spoilers for this book in hopes that subsequent readers re-enter this world as unsuspecting as I did. Melanie puts her beloved characters (and her readers) through a full gauntlet of emotion in this novel, yet she does so with careful precision and skilled storytelling. You won’t be able to set this story down for long, and thankfully they are many familiar faces along for the ride to offer you support and comfort.
I’d been in a months long reading slump this year, but “The Amendment” has snapped me back out of it. I’m giving this book 5 stars simply because of that. Easily, one of my top reads of 2019!
All the feels! Roller coaster ride of emotions! Absolute phenomenal!
Happily ever after doesn’t mean guaranteed perfection. After all, sometimes a rougher path makes you appreciate your HEA even more.
Richard & Katy are surrounded by friends, family by choice, and their two adorable girls. Richard has it all. But apparently life is going too smoothly for them.
They hit a bit of really rough turbulence in their HEA journey and quite a bit of adjustment must be made.
Melanie is evil. You’ll be smiling, laughing, and loving when BAM you’re a sobbing mess! Have the tissues handy. You’re going to need them.
I loved every word.
We also get to see all our favorite people and meet some new ones. Thank you, Melanie for this fantabulous bookiverse.
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I am a big fan of Melanie Moreland, and of all her books, and have been from the beginning when I read Into the Storm. Through each new release, I professed the current book is my favorite of all time. When I read The Contract, it was plain to see that it was on a level by itself! One that goes beyond simple words like “favorite book”, “favorite characters”, “favorite author”! Although I love each and every book by Melanie Moreland, The Contract is now considered my GOAT! (Greatest of All Time) The Contract first introduced us to Richard and Katy. I fell in love with Katy right away and admired her for her strength. The same cannot be said for my first impression of Richard. However, Richard evolved into the perfect book boyfriend because he fell in love with Katy, and amazingly, she fell in love with him! To read the transformation of Richard was pure storytelling magic, and that is what Melanie gave us!
The Baby Clause gave us another transformation of Richard, fatherhood! By this time, I loved everything about Richard VanRyan! I did not want to see the series end. Melanie answered my prayers by bringing Richard into her BAM series. Though I loved seeing him again, it was still not enough. Imaging exhilaration of knowing that Richard and Katy would be featured in another book, The Amendment! My joy could not be contained!
In The Amendment, we join Richard and Katy in their lives after The Baby Clause but during some events that happened in the BAM series. Therefore I recommend reading The Contract, The Baby Clause, Bently, Aiden, Maddox, and Reid if you want all the information you need to understand the relationships in The Amendment.
The Amendment shows our favorite couple riding high on life. Richard is well aware that he has it all! The perfect career, the best of friends, but most importantly, his wife and daughters! He and Katy are living their Happily Ever After! However something happens that could change life as they know it. Will the love they have be enough to help them survive?
This book takes you through a roller coaster of feelings…love, fear, sorrow, frustration, acceptance, forgiveness, hope, joy…and many, many more. In The Amendment, Melanie Moreland gives us characters that are believably real! She reminds us that, even when you have the perfect person for you, it doesn’t mean that they are perfect. At least not all the time. The situations that tests this wonderful family also feels real. Watching how they cope when life throws you a curve ball is, again, storytelling magic!
This story is a must read! Especially if you loved The Contract! It is now my GOAT! (Yes it took that spot from The Contract) The beauty, however, is that it still leaves Richard VanRyan as my GOAT for book boyfriend. In fact, I think I love him even more in The Amendment. A mention before, he is not a perfect, but he is perfect for Katy, Gracie and Heather. This makes him as close to perfect as perfect can get in my book. Katy, again shows great strength, loyalty and courage. She is the glue that keeps this family together! And who cannot love Gracie!
The Contract was a great romance, The Baby Clause was the sweetest thing ever, but you need to read The Amendment! The Amendment
Man oh man what a story! And I thought I loved Richard and Katy before! I’m not going to give anything away but if you’ve read The Contract then this is an absolute must read. The boys of BAM show up in this book too which made me incredibly happy. One word of warning….you probably shouldn’t read the last half of the book in public and you will need Kleenex. So much love for this book!
The story flowed smoothly and was easy to follow. I personally think it was a little too sweet, but it was a good read overall. I enjoyed this conclusion and felt it wrapped up the story nicely. This was my first read by this author and it won’t be my last. If you have read The Contract then you won’t be disappointed by The Amendment.
Richard is a strong family man with a deep love for his wife, his children and his co-workers. I really enjoyed seeing the interactions of these characters and the deep bond they share. Katy is such a beautiful soul! Her love, kindness and patience appear limitless. She pushes her husband to do better when tragedy strikes her family and I found myself cheering her on and at times, heartbreak.
The Amendment is the conclusion to the Contract. I personally don’t think the first one needs to be read in order to understand this story. It will definitely help understand the characters more, but I followed along just fine.
Wow!!!! What an amazing story that was. A 5 star page turning story that had me hooked in no time.
Richard and Katy have it all. 2 beautiful little girl, great jobs and are riding high. Then one day their lives will be shattered in a blink of an eye. Can their love stand strong?
I knew their love would be tested but I never expected what happens. This turn of events was unexpected . I was heartbroken for both of them. It’s a second chance sort of. I really enjoyed these amazing characters that all came together in times of need.
A beautifully written storyline that was addicting and captivating. There was never a dull moment. Bottomline is this is a must read.
It can safely be read as a standalone but for better enjoyment read the entire Contract series. Told on a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.

Review
I feel in love with Katy and Richard in The Contract and could not get enough of them! Then when I read the Baby Clause and was able to see a different side of them as parents I loved them even more!
When I first started The Contract (book 1) I didn’t really like Richard just because of how he treated Katy and then he slowly grew on me once they started their “relationship”. By the end of the first book I was so in love with them a rooting for them!
When the Amendment first starts Katy and Richard have a great life with two little daughter and a loving relationship! That all comes to a screeching halt when Richard gets in an accident.
The road to recovery for Richard is extremely hard their are many ups and downs for the entire family. This book made me laugh and cry and I can’t wait for everyone to dive right in!!
**Received an ARC for an honest review**
I became a fan of Melanie Moreland’s writing when I read book one of the Vested Interest series at the recommendation of friend. I then binge read the entire series and fell in love with each couple. Naturally, I was drawn to read the Contract which features Richard VanRyan as our leading man, and was thrilled that his friends from the previous books made appearances.
The Amendment can be read as a standalone, but I do encourage you to first read the Contract, which is free on kindle unlimited if you subscribe, then the Baby Clause which is a free novella, and then the Amendment. By doing so, you will come to know how Richard first met Katy, and the rocky road that they endured and the realizations that they came to before they wed. I so love a book that takes you on a journey and gets you totally invested in a story and that is what Melanie does with her writing. The pages flow effortlessly and you will find yourself feeling every emotion as you turn the pages. Their banter was also very fun to read.
I did write a review for the Contract and basically stated how much I admired and respected the heroine. She didn’t have it easy growing up yet remained honest, loyal, hardworking, and humble. She was gracious and kind, but absolutely no pushover, and did whatever it took to be independent and survive.
I loved how she handled herself with grace even in times of despair, and would be proud to have her as a friend. She helped Richard become a better man, as did his work mentor, Graham, whom I highly respected. He is featured in each of the three books in this series, and was the type of person anyone would want to emulate. I truly was in awe of how he led his life and the trust, advice, and support he selflessly gave to his family and employees, especially Richard.
Katy and Richard were living the dream. They had a family they adored, had embraced their past, and looked forward to their future. But then life happens and our hero and heroine were faced with one of life’s greatest challenges. Melanie writes about situations that we can all relate to, and you will feel all of their joy, heartache, and sorrow in this beautifully written story. But more importantly, you will find yourself routing for them every step of the way.
I love how supportive their friends and extended family are, and how honest, raw, and emotional this book is. The character development is evident on every page and I love how nothing was sugarcoated. This book is about loving unconditionally, tough love, and weathering life’s storms. It’s about standing by people when they are hurting, encouraging but not enabling, and forgiveness. It’s about remaining positive and reminding people that the sun is shinning behind every raincloud.
This book features so many wonderful secondary characters which makes the book so interesting, including their funny and spirited toddler, Graham’s wife and children, the men and their lady loves from BAM, and a new character, a young man that Richard is charged with mentoring.
If you have read Melanie before, her last few chapters are magical, always end with a HEA, and the reason I read romance! Well done!
