Sparks fly and tension soars when a gutsy 21st century lawyer meets a 19th century Pinkerton agent in a Colorado mining town!Fast-paced Western adventure with a railroad war, gunslingers, dinosaur bones, and romance… Amber Kelly, mining lawyer and amateur paleontologist, visits her family’s 19th century log cabin in the Colorado mountains, and discovers a puzzle box hidden in a 200-year-old … discovers a puzzle box hidden in a 200-year-old loom. Inside the box is a brooch engraved with a Gaelic inscription. After reciting the words, an earthy-scented fog engulfs Amber and whisks her off to Leadville, Colorado, in the year 1878. Within minutes of arriving in the infamous boomtown, she witnesses a horrifying accident.
Pinkerton Agent Daniel Grant, a widower on assignment to the Rio Grande Railroad, sees his son fall into the path of a freight wagon. Terrified, he knows he can’t reach him in time. Amber sprints toward the boy, grabs him, and drags him to safety. Although Daniel is grateful to Amber for saving his son’s life, he quickly becomes suspicious of her legal knowledge, odd passion for hunting dinosaur bones, and the inability to answer simple questions about her identity.
Olivia Kelly, real estate Broker and former litigator, is distraught over her sister’s disappearance. With the assistance of her client, former NYPD detective Connor O’Grady, they search the cabin for clues to Amber’s whereabouts. Connor recognizes the puzzle box and is convinced Amber has gone back in time. But where? With the help of his friends, David and Kenzie McBain, they identify two possibilities: Morrison and Caǹon City, Colorado, in the late 1870s. A plan to rescue Amber is immediately put into action.
The time travelers are drawn into the middle of two wars: a ruthless and competitive bone war between two noted paleontologists, and a desperate railroad war between the Santa Fe and the Rio Grande. Their involvement in these wars puts at risk the future of paleontology, the outcome of a sensational legal battle, and the health and hearts of two couples, a ten-year-old boy, and a dog named Ripley.

I have enjoyed this series, and cannot wait for the next Brooch book. All of the books have had very involved plots, with my favorite being the Civil War story, as it seemed to have the greatest depth in plot and convoluted twists and turns.
The characters have continued to build and evolve, bringing new plausible characters to the series, and revisiting with those from former stories.
I’ve read all of the Celtic brooch novels to date and this was my favorite one. I love the world that Katherine Lowery Logan has created with this series and how in depth it goes. What I loved most about this one was the place and time period in which it took place (the old west) and all that was going on there at that time. The MC, Amber is truly a Renaissance woman, being amazing at cooking, practicing law, and paleontology. I loved reading about her interactions with people in the past (most notably Pinkerton agent, Daniel) and how she gets on in the past. This book is full of adventure and romance, without being over the top or too steamy. I was sad to finish it, but am looking forward to reading the next books in this series!
Read all of Katherine Logan’s Brooch series & you will not be disappointed. They are all terrific books!!
Absolutely a Wonderful Adventure!
This is such a wonderful series, I am always sad when I get to the end of each book. I love the characters and the trouble they get into when they travel through time.
Wonderfully entertaining series, easy read and interesting
Keeps you spell bound. the time travel was very good and the characters. would like to see more books like this
I am already excited for the next book in the series!
THE AMBER BROOCH is Katherine Lowry Logan’s 8th book in the Celtic Brooch series. It is a multifaceted and fast-paced story with parallel plot lines about the choices we make to follow our dreams, to keep those we care about safe, how far we are going to protect our secrets, and about our trust in family and friends. We are being introduced to Amber Kelly, a successful mining lawyer and hobby paleontologist, who finds herself pulled back to 1878 Colorado into a time of cut-throat railroad wars and ruthless scientists, and who needs the help of her sister and some already familiar characters from previous books to find a way back to the future without changing imminent historic events. But does she really want to leave, when a handsome Pinkerton agent and his motherless little son start claiming her heart?
Katherine Lowry Logan’s love for detail and her thorough research of ground-braking scientific and historical events makes this new book a treasure to read. Beautiful descriptions of landmarks, homes, and historical buildings, of life styles and clothes of a long gone era make this book come alive. The reader is immediately immersed into a world where women, especially those wearing trousers and having political opinions, are viewed with skepticism, and where men are desperately trying to find their luck in silver mines in the Colorado mountains.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea, find a comfortable chair, and enjoy this roller coaster ride through time.
