Once again the irrepressible Mrs. Pollifax, that very special agent with her own very special brand of logic, is off on an incredible escapade of international intrigue . . . from the exotic towns and countryside of Turkey to a mysterious rendezvous with a gypsy caravan.“You are in effect replacing a dead man, Mrs. Pollifax. . . .”When Emily Pollifax answered the phone that Sunday morning she … that Sunday morning she quickly forgot about her Garden Club tea in the afternoon. The last time she had heard the voice on the other end of the line it had sent of her off on a journey that plunged her into a wild tangle of secret agents and high adventure.
Now the man from the CIA was asking if she could leave immediately on a mission that would take her halfway across the world. What could Mrs. Pollifax say but yes?

All the Mrs Pollifax books are wonderful!
Great reading!
I have been reading mrs. Policed since she was a reader digest condensed books. I love this writer for bringing her back.
I love Dorothy Gilman and her character Mrs. Pollfax. She navigates many disastrous adventures with courage and cunning surviving them. This takes her to Turkey and a prison break. You will enjoy it.
I want to be Mrs. Pollifax when I grow up
Delightful character and interesting plot. I am now a big fan!
An older woman who can do anything!
She uses charm and her wits to get the job done
Just loved it! Have read it more than once, the story and characters are so good.
Glad to see a Senior featured as witty and resourceful.
I love all of the Mrs. Pollifax books. Emily Pollifax is an older lady (about my own age), a widow like me, and her children are grown and no longer need her. So, wearing her signature flowered hat, she goes to the offices of the C.I.A. and volunteers to become a spy (something I definitely would not do). Right at that moment, the C.I.A. needs an unassuming person to act as a courier to Mexico City so she is hired. She goes down on vacation and has a fine time sightseeing and souvenir shopping for a couple of weeks. But the unexpected happens and she ends up in a peck of trouble, along with another spy that she meets as she is being abducted. The story is so far-fetched but well-written that eventually all the hair-raising escapades become believable. I highly recommend this book to anyone hoping to spice up their life.
I would have given it 5 stars but Mrs. Pollifax was never as panicky as I think most people would be in some of the situations she found herself in. Otherwise, I couldn’t put it down.
First read it when it covered contemporary events – which were entertaining but hardly believable then. Today it is still well written and entertaining.
It shows you are never to old! Fun!
Great light hearted reading. Pure enjoyment.
She’s an older lady, and she’s bored, so she volunteers to be a spy. And she’s accepted, due to unusual circumstances. That is the beginning of 14 books of sheer fun and adventure. You will grow to know her, and then to love her the way you’d love an eccentric aunt. But you’ll be hooked after the first book, and when you close book number 14, you’ll wish there were more. A truly great series.
This book was a delightfull read for me. But then I am over 50 and to read about a mature, prim, wonderfully naive spy was very entertaining. Will definitely read more Mrs. Pollifax books, and with a smile on my face.
I have enjoyed this series for decades and always enjoy coming back. It’s a cozy read with rich characters.
Mrs Pollifax is amazing in all of the books
Dorothy Gillman Writes. Just love the trouble she gets in and out of.
You can’t go wrong with Emily Pollifax.
Cute, a bit like the Miss Julia books. Very light, you would have to be in the mood. I do think it has the potential for a cute tv series.
