Once again the irrepressible Mrs. Pollifax, that very special agent with her own very special brand of logic, is off on an incredible escapade of international intrigue . . . from the exotic towns and countryside of Turkey to a mysterious rendezvous with a gypsy caravan.“You are in effect replacing a dead man, Mrs. Pollifax. . . .”When Emily Pollifax answered the phone that Sunday morning she … that Sunday morning she quickly forgot about her Garden Club tea in the afternoon. The last time she had heard the voice on the other end of the line it had sent of her off on a journey that plunged her into a wild tangle of secret agents and high adventure.
Now the man from the CIA was asking if she could leave immediately on a mission that would take her halfway across the world. What could Mrs. Pollifax say but yes?

This series should be read in order.
With that said what’s not to like about a senior citizen who goes and offers her services to the CIA? Her escapades are great and I want to be her when I’m her age!!!
I can not count the number of times i have taken this amazing journey with Emily Pollifax but every time has been fantastic! If i had to choose 100 books that were the only ones I could ever again read this book would be one of them, I read between 200-300 books a year
This is the second book in the Mrs Pollifax series. In this one, Mrs Pollifax goes off to Turkey and has glorious adventures. Her meeting up with the gypsies and her adventures with them was great.
What I like about her is that she is unforgettable. Once someone meets her they don’t forget her and often times, years later, she still has contact with many of those people. She changes lives.
All in all, another delightful book in the series.
Loved it from beginning to end.
The delightful, inimitable Mrs. Polifax is on the move again, this time to Turkey. She has a simple courier assignment to meet an asylum seeker in a hotel lobby and deliver a passport and money. Of course, nothing is ever simple when Mrs. Polifax is on the job! Superb plot, incredible characters, great dialogue, and wonderful humor!
I love all the “Mrs Polifax” books.
Wonderful fun and a light easy read…no violence.
Mrs. P is at it again. She is off to bring an asset in from the cold.
Great book!
I listened to the unabridged audio book version and loved it!
Such a fun character and interesting to read about who the bad guys were just a few years back. How the world changes but yet stays the same. Nice to know there are regular people willing to help others who need help when they are in trouble. There were times I was reading and holding my breath to see what was going to happen.
Wonderful series. Unique characters. Lots of adventure.
I LOVE this series. I have read and re-read it many times over the years. Having been written over 30 years ago, does nothing to diminish the story, the relevance, the people; as a matter of fact, it shows very clearly how history repeats itself. I read this when I was younger and loved the series. And I’ve re-read the entire series several times since, it is ageless and timeless. I have grown fonder and more understanding of Mrs Polifax as I’ve gotten older, though. She’s lovable and relatable. There are many younger characters she deals with, teams up with, mentors and learns from throughout this series. Every character is so 3-dimensional, they become old friends, people you remember fondly and miss when the series ends. (Hence the re-reading every couple years or so.) I’ve never grown bored or thought that I remember the plot too well to read so often. The plots are so well thought out, so relevant to the time (as well as today) and so complex that you get pulled in to them again and again.
I feel that, though I may look back on my life that wasn’t full of the adventure and excitement that Mrs Polifax so desired, I will be content in having lived vicariously through her.
Long live Mrs Polifax.
Mrs. Pollifax is a remarkable invention. The plot as convoluted as well as funny, and the endings good. A pleasure to read. I look forward to her other books.
I love the whole Mrs. Pollifax series.
Mrs. Pollifax is who I want to be when I grow up…Opps I’m older than her. Well there are all her books. I really like this series.
I loved all of her books
My Mother loved Mrs. Pollifax. I snubbed her and instead read all the rest of Ms. Gilman’s books. And loved them all. Now that I am my Mother’s age, I thought I would try one when I was at a loss for what to read next. When I looked up, I had charged through the first 3 books in the series. They were all very good with unique plots, interesting characters, interesting locations, and serious difficulties. I found myself asking if I could accomplish what mid-sixties year old widow Mrs Pollifax could do. Well written and fun to read. I am looking forward to the next 3 books.
Contrived but fun to read. Have tead 3 and will read more. Fun and light.
This is my second time through the Pollifax sereis and I always enjoy reading Dorothy Gilmore’s writing style and the adventures of Mrs. Pollifax.
