The Alphas think they own everything. Including people. Well, I’m here to say they don’t own me, and I will never let one of those bastards touch me again.
The frenzy of their Burn cannot be trusted. I know from experience. My first time with an Alpha nearly ended in my death. And because of the laws which favor Alpha rights, and place a large number of unbonded, adult Omegas on chattel farms, … chattel farms, my abuser can never be tried for his crimes against me.
Omegas are being hurt. Omegas are dying.
All Alphas are violent. Or so I believe. Until I meet Orion.
Ori is everything a guy could want in a mate. Six foot three. Beautiful brown wavy hair. Bright, dark eyes. Muscles like chiseled marble. He even says “please” and “thank you” at all the right times. He’s got it all, except he’s an Alpha.
Though he has given me a room in his home free of charge, and has signed fake paperwork saying we are bonded so I don’t have to answer my attacker’s claim, can I trust him?
But now I’m in danger. If I don’t take a real mate, my life as I know it will be over. Can I believe in the goodness of Ori? Can I learn to love again?
A non-shifter, fake mate, Alpha/Omega love story. Rescue. First time. Omegaverse. Mpreg. Healing from sexual trauma. (All books in The Omega Misfits series are standalone reads and can be read in any order.) 61k words.

I enjoyed all the books in this series so far, but this one is my absolute favorite. Wonderful read!
Wow!! This book drew me right in! Poor Holland! My heart broke for him. I cried. And then Orion came into his life when he needed it, even if Holland wouldn’t admit it. These two really belonged together. Their road together was not easy but so worth it!
The Alpha’s Fake Mate is the second book in The Omega Misfits series by author Wendy Rathbone. While the first book in this series had a fairytale quality to it this book went into a very different direction. It is jarring if you read both books in order. This book is written in dual POV which is needed to get into Holland’s mind.
There is scene that is rape flash backs of it, and the entire storyline does revolve around this and healing from it. So might not be a book for really sensitive readers.
Holland is an Omega. He is living in a Chattle House. Zillys. He used to be a rule follower, good at being an Omega. A little nervous but hopeful. Now he is angry all the time.
Orion just got a degree in micro biology. He has inherited his fathers Omega Farm Zilly. And all of his dad’s money. He wants to make changes, give Omegas more rights. He hates how Omegas are treated now. He might be Alpha but he is a fair one.
This story has a lot of emotions being played out. I feel everything is handled with sensitivity and fits the storyline. I just wished it had the same tone the first book had. I feel like we are being introduced to each kind of Omega in this world, but in vastly different ways. Other than that this is a good story and I would love to read more in the future.
Four Twinkling Stars
Even better than book 1!
I liked this book even better than the first one. Holland has been abused and no longer buys the story the Alphas are telling about the place of Omegas in society. His grief and anger have turned him from an ‘ideal’ Omega into a bitter and outspoken one. Orion has inherited the Omega farm where Holland lives, and wants to make things better. Is there hope for them to become friends, or anything more?
Holland was a little over the top at first, but Orion is fine with it. The chemistry is good, though reluctant for a while….Holland is definitely a misfit Omega, and Orion’s preferences make him a misfit Alpha also. The two of them fit together perfectly eventually…and they deserve their HEA. Well written, great world-building, and a pleasure to read! The quirks here were right down my alley. Well done!
Holland and Orion are made for one another, though neither expects that at all. Holland is absolutely given the short end of the stick in his life and when his incredibly traumatic experience colors his view drastically, it takes all the patience and interest and determination Orion possesses to give the Omega another chance to see another side, a side that could include love.
Orion is atypical in his desires and also in the way he endeavors to run his inheritance. Those aspects bring him Holland. He also has a savior complex that gives Holland exactly what he needs to escape the life that is threatening to suffocate him. Holland’s perspective opens Ori’s eyes to a life he never thought twice about. I really liked their dynamic because it was so very atypical to their society.
There were so many parallels to the plight of women and anything other than a wealthy hetero male and while the references and frustrations were a bit heavy handed, they were still relevant. Holland had an admittedly horrendous experience and I don’t blame his bitterness or dissatisfaction one bit. What I did have a bit of trouble with was how vitriolic he was, how angry he stayed even when he saw clearly who Ori was and what he did for Holland. Being upset with the world and encouraging Ori to use his position and wealth to do more was great, but that he took all that anger out on the man he absolutely knew was the exception to his hatred was frustrating.
Everything really did work out for both men and I truly enjoyed their dynamic, it made the story much more interesting. I would have liked to see a little more into the brothel after various changes were made and for there to be a little more in the way of seeing Holland soften rather than it being a kind of sudden moment. Those two things would have been appreciated. Overall I enjoyed the first story in the series more, but am interested to see where we may go from here based on how different Ori and Holland’s story was from Kris and Thorne’s.
Holland is an omega who seems mentally damaged after being beaten almost to death during an alpha’s Burn. He meets Orion an alpha who refuses to give up on him or let him be hurt again. Orion claims Holland to protect him and they work through Holland’s past pain.
Holland deserves his HEA. A very strong storyline with some triggers with a sweet love story mixed in. A wonderful read!
This is an outstanding non-shifter omegaverse MM romance with a “fake marriage” undertone & it is an enjoyable read. It is slightly darker than the previous book (Trust No Alpha) but it is definitely a splendid addiction to the “Omega Misfits” The plot is entertaining, well-written & suspenseful with some intriguing situations. There is good scene descriptions & world building. The unique characters are well-developed individuals that are realistically emotional flawed but have good chemistry between them. The secondary characters offer some good support.
There is: a angry & untrusting omega (Holland) with terrible memories of a violent alpha is claimed by a apparently well-mannered alpha (Orion, the owner of the omega farm) when the dangerous alpha (Bosk) who assaulted Holland wants to claim him, a warden (Chirl), a therapist (Sen), a omega farm/brothel, drama, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, devastating memories, sexual assault, injuries, confrontations, anger, fear, accusations, disrespect, an offer, protectiveness, negotiations, a contract, a false claim, tests, devastating news, demands, verbal banter, emotional turmoil, court cases, threats, love, contentment, some steam & a well-deserved satisfying conclusion. I look forward to future books from this author with great anticipation & would recommend this book.
I loved book one in this series, so picking up this one was a total no brainer. It was such a treat! I think this story was even better! The emotional value of the story is very well developed.
We see it via a dual POV and all the descriptions and feels are amazingly matched to the characters! Both MCs were very interesting and their profiles were very well built.
The world building in this series is really good and there are very unique elements to the omegaverse that I like a lot.
All in all, a very good book!
This amazing second book in the series again portrayed the same dystopian world from the previous one, but it can be read as standalone as the only relation with it is the environment. Ms Rathbone’s writing work is outstanding, as shown by the way all the intensity of the emotions and deeply despair of the characters is palpable during our reading. Alongside a very strong topic with some triggers, that could be tear-jerker and angsty you’ll find a sweet love story that helped to light the mood while reading it and gave hope for a happy ending. Wonderful reading!!
I was finally of age my training all done and had been looking forward to helping Alpha’s through their burn, even possibly finding one to matebond with but after the attack I hate it all, everything about my life just makes me so very angry. The omega house is now mine Orion thought, with my fathers passing I have to decide whether to keep it or sell, while visiting the house I meet Hollan, he’s so beautiful, but so angry. The Alpha who attacked Holland wants to claim, him so I interceed and claim him first even through it’s fake, there’s just something about him and now I need to figure out how to make this thing between us real.
Ok, I’m really impressed. This series has become one of my favorites. In this second book we visit one of the Farms where the Omegas live. Orion, a young Alpha has just inherited the Farm from his father and wants to make things better for the Omegas. And then there is Holland, a young Omega in the Farm who was raped by an Alpha. Holland has won my heart. He’s brave and honest and not afraid to shake the status quo by voicing his opinions. Holland is the best. Orion might be a bit naive but he’s willing to listen and learn and change. Their chemistry is AMAZING and their story warmed my heart. I love a book that makes me think and this book achieved that. This series has me hooked! I can’t wait for the next one!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
