I’m reading a lot of Paranormal right now, and I especially love books with a lot of classic family dynamics. This was above and beyond expectations with a terrific Alpha whose loyalty to his pack members truly warmed my heart, and a love interest whose care for his siblings is just beautiful. This book had exactly the sweetness I was in the mood for without sacrificing conflict.
Can an Alpha find happiness with a ready- made family? Oh yeah!
What a great start to a new series. Kiki has created characters you want to care about. The world is vibrant and alive with detail. This book has it all: danger, inner strengths, a whole slew of bad guys, loyal friends, witches, seers, adorable kids, and lots of love. I loved this book.
When a simple banishment finds 4 abused kids, Rick sees red. He can’t avoid the instant attraction he feels for the oldest sibling. Kai calls to his wolf. Rick is compelled to protect them, and not just because it’s his duty as Pack Alpha. While the 2 youngest take to Rick immediately, teenage Sammi is sceptical. Kai just knows he feels safe with Rick.
As their love grows, Kai assumes the role of alpha- mate without the claim or title. When a potential ally tries to trap Rick – abusing his trust & injuring Kai, things turn upside down. An attack from the Pack’s enemies ramp things up. Now if Rick can find a way to get his feet out of his mouth, & his head out of his butt, he will realize what really matters.
Come. Join Rick & Kai on their journey to HEA. Watch as Sammi, Cassie & Henry grow, becoming pack. Meet and become involved in the lives of the Enforcers & betas. Hug Ms. Beth. You will love this book!
This is the first book in a continuous series. It is a cliffhanger. The story continues in book two. I can’t wait to read it!
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
What a great read, a new author, first in a new series and once I started it drew me in and kept me there till I read the whole thing, so good. Rick is the Alpha and has done his very best to provide for his pack but when the Kings take advantage of his generosity and steals from them, he is done. As he is sentancing them to banishment from the pack, he finds their children are locked in a shed at the back of the property and he takes them in, but there just something that draws him to Kai and it’s going to make life interesting for everyone.
Loved this book! Can’t wait for the next one
This was great! You could feel the emotional trauma of Kai and his family and balancing the shifter aspect was done very well. I loved all the characters but Kai was my favorite. His learning to trust Rick and fall in love was great. Also, I really hope his witchy friend gets a happily ever after and as butt-kicking as she is meant to be! I look forward to reading more of this pack.
This was my first experience with Kiki Clark and Kirt Graves and I really enjoyed it. Clark has created a really unique world here – shifters but without the typical fated mates aspect, though it’s definitely instant attraction. While each book in the series follows the relationship of a couple giving them an HEA, there’s also a series story arc that runs throughout the books, so you’ll want to listen to them all and in order.
There’s a lot of world building going on but Clark does a good job of keeping it interesting and I didn’t feel like the pace was affected by it. While Rick & Kai are wolf- shifters – the Kincaid Pack is made up of various animals as well as seers and witches. I’m a fan of books with kids in them and while not exactly a “single dad” trope – Kai’s responsibility for his younger siblings definitely brings all of those feels to the story. I also like that the kids are not just convenient props, Clark has made them an integral and believable aspect.
There are some heavy elements in here such as abuse, violence, and some relationship angst. Tempered by a little bit of humor and new found family. I love the secondary characters as much as the main couple. While Rick and Kai get their HFN, the mystery surrounding attacks on the pack are just revealing themselves to be larger than anyone thinks. I’m definitely looking forward to Keiran & Bennett’s book, The Second and His Bonded.
Narration:
This is my first time listening to a narration by Kirt Graves and I’m absolutely in love with his style and voices. There are a LOT of characters in this book and Graves gives them all unique voices and personalities. My favorite part is that he performs each chapter in a voice corresponding to that character which makes it easy to keep track of perspective. He’s definitely being added to my “find more!” list of narrators.
Found this book by mistake but I’m so glad I did, I read this very quickly and I found myself joining Kiki Clark’s fan page as I found her book brilliant.
I’ve been collecting the Kincaid Pack series since
I want to join the Kincaid Pack
Wow, this book is fantastic and scent-sational. “But together, we are stronger. Together, we could stand against the whole world and I know we would win. Because you bring out the best in me.” Kai is amazing. He’s everything that Rick needs and I’m so happy he and his siblings found a family that loves them as they are. Rick makes an exceptional alpha and I quickly fell for him and his pup. I loved the world-building, how everyone bands together, and I’m loving the mystery. From the first page, I was hooked.
This is fantastic book.
The best part, aside from the romance, the mystery and the joy, is the genuine feeling of a family.
Even though there are witches in the coven, a myriad of different shifters and discussions about past abuse…the warmth displayed by those in the Kincaid Pack is so believable and encompassing, that you just know there is going to be happiness at the end of the story.
Of course, since it is part of a series (yeah!), we will have to wait for some of the couples to stop fighting their attraction and give into love.
A great plot. Wonderful dialogue. Great, well-rounded characters. I can’t wait to read the next in the series, ‘The Second and His Bonded.’
Rick is an alpha in charge of the Kincaid pack. When he goes to the King residence to kick then off pack lands, Kai comes out of the shed waving a rake. Kai just wants to protect his family. Rick takes them home with him. This story was full of emotion, lots of angst due to no communication. It was a really good story, loved it!!
I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received from Gay Romance Reviews. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
I stumbled onto this author accidentally and it was the best accident I’ve had! I didn’t realize when I started this book that I would get sucked in and not able to put it down. Rick and Kai drew me in from the start with all their emotions and battle scars. I cried, and laughed and sighed throughout this entire book. Definitely recommend to anyone who loves a good shifter story!
I loved this book. Most of the common werewolf mythology was used so it was familiar and cosy, but there was still a lot of societal world building to make it interesting. The writing was excellent. I’m looking forward to book two.
First, this book is so full and well written that I find it shocking that this is the first book. Rick is an uber Alpha. By that, I mean his complete focus is on his pack and their well-being; even to the point that he does not consider his own happiness. Kai has had a life full of hardship but refuses to let it break his spirit. As he and his siblings figure out how to live in a pack, he tries to ignore the connection between him and Rick.
There are numerous outside forces that effect their relationship until the one that almost breaks them.
I absolutely cannot wait for the next one!
The Alpha and His King is the start of The Kincaid Pack by author Kiki Clark. I liked this story there are tons of angst and action along with a sprinkling of love. This is a great first story for this series.
Rick has always been dedicated to his pack. Some days he hated being Alpha. He has to banish two pack members who were stealing from the pack.
Kai is brave, he might not be strong be he is determined. He bursts out of his shed willing to defend his brother and sisters. He is spunky even when he is terrified.
These two do not seem to be the likeliest of mates but they each bring something the other needs to the relationship. I liked that no one has more power than the other.
For a first book, this is a great intro to this world and the politics of it. I cannot wait for more I know I will be looking for the next book in this series.
Five Shooting Stars
I absolutely fell in love with this story. I knew going in that the author was new to me, but I didn’t realize it was their first release as well. And, to be perfectly honest, I was a bit nervous at the first page when I saw the location, but let me tell you; I literally “tore” through the pages, and I couldn’t believe how quickly the book was over.
This is the start of a new supernatural series. I don’t want to label it as a “shifter” series, although the Kincaid Pack is ripe with multiple species, and lead by a very powerful Alpha wolf. But also found among the members of this mighty pack are witches and seers, and even a human around the corner might have some knowledge of the pack’s goings on.
The characters have a good back story, which leads to how and why things are the way they are at the beginning of the story. Rick is trying to bring pack life into the more modern way of thinking and doing things, and this is what leads to the meeting of the Alpha and the King family. Rick had set himself on one path that day, but upon the discovery of Kai and his young siblings, Rick changes his mind, and he allows himself to slip back into the old ways, if only for a moment.
Kai and his 16 yo sister (and their much younger two siblings) have been given a conflicting and confusing education about pack life, what it means to be half human, and all about the mysterious and dangerous big, bad, Alpha. Kai is the first to show signs of trust, but his draw to Rick and eventually, common sense, help him with this. His sister is a harder nut to crack, but the little ones are pure joy.
The angst, hurt/comfort, push and pull, between Rick and Kai causes problems for everyone. Rick is trying so hard to do the right thing that he’s blind to the fact that he is making a mess of his life and his pack. Kai is trying to take care of his family and not loose the only thing they have left; the pack.
The mysterious threats, the danger and destruction, the unknown foe, just add exceptional layers to the storyline. I have to admit that the secondary characters really stole my heart almost, if not as much, as the MCs. They work together, and their friendship and loyalty are strong. They are what will keep this series interesting and exciting, because just as we solve one mystery, we find out that the dangers facing the Kincaid Pack are just beginning. But, at least for now, Rick and Kai have their shot at a happily ever after as Alpha and his Alpha-mate, Kai King.
Happy reading!
* I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my honest review. *
I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I really enjoyed the world building. It’s a shifter book (no mpreg or omegas) with alphas, betas, enforcers, seers and witches. It ends in a HFN/HEA for the MCs but leaves the overall storyline open. It will continue into the next book with a new MC couple. I’m very much looking forward to the next book!
I was very impressed with this author’s debut novel. I found this MM shifter romance quite fascinating with a “slow-burn” undertone & it was a pleasure to read. The well-paced plot is interesting & quite heart-wrenching at times. There is good scene descriptions & world building. The well-developed characters have individual personalities & are realistically emotional flawed but they continue to develop throughout the story line to become more confidant, well-adjusted individuals. There is some good support from the secondary characters.
There is: a domineering alpha (Garrick Kincaid aka Rick) is confronted by a feisty male omega (Kai) who is trying to protect his siblings (Samantha aka Sammi, Callie & baby Henry) & Rick takes them all into his home but as these two ( Rick & Kai) grow emotional closer-their enemies are posed to strike, a conceiving alpha (Jerico) from the McAllister pack, his conniving daughter (Veronica), drama, intrigue, suspense, various kinds of shifters, witches, seers, a council, mates, drama, intrigue, suspense, mystery, secrets, twists & turns, danger, threats, enemies, vengeful feelings, potential allies, pack issues, action, deceit, betrayal, abuse, distrust, misunderstandings, tentative friendship, visions, memories, confrontations, beatings, sanctuary requests, misunderstanding, disagreements, heartbreak, anguish, attempted apologies, compromises, contentment, some steam & a HFN with a interesting cliffhanger. I enjoyed reading this book & would recommend it.
I enjoyed this debut novel from Kiki SO much! It was an excellent novel and a great start to a new shifter series. It was clearly well-thought out with an intriguing plot line, great writing, and strong pacing. The two main characters, Rick and Kai, were flawed, relatable characters who were so endearing in their own ways. And they were also incredibly well matched to each other.
There were a lot of side characters in this story, but I was never confused about who was who. Kiki does a great job of introducing them when they’re needed and not a minute sooner. Some of them were more fleshed out than others, naturally, simply by virtue of their role in the story and their relation to Rick and Kai. I very much look forward to some of their stories.
Seriously, a great start to this series. I just devoured it in one sitting while I was supposed to be working from home. Oops?
Rick is the alpha of one of the most powerful pack in the United State. He has a lot of people under his care, and particularly the King siblings. 4 Brother and sister that he rescued from a shed where they were badly mistreated.
Kai has one goal in his life: Protecting his family by any cost. When Alpha Rick find them in this shed, Kai refuses to believe they were safe with this huge wolf until the pack and Rick shows him what is it to belong to a pack.
For my first time with Kiki Clark’s book, I wasn’t disappointed.
Rick is busy leading his pack but when he discovers Kai in a shed, he understood that something was wrong with how he leads his pack. He’s an Alpha, he’s a nurturer and it’s impregned in his DNA to protect others especially Kai and his siblings. I loved Rick. He’s hard on himself and refuses to accept that he can’t be everywhere and know everything. I loved how he is with Kai, Sam, baby Henry and little Callie. He’s very protective of them. I loved how the big bad wolf seems to lose his tongue in front of small Kai. Priceless
Kai is the leader of his family; he tries to protect them with everything he has. He’s ready to sacrifice himself for them, but when He meets Rick and his pack, Kai accepts to have help and to be protect. I loved Kai, I loved how despite his awful childhood, he still protecting his family and wants to help them and other people. He could have accepted to let Rick and his pack dealing with his problems and siblings, but no! Kai wants to be part of the pack, wants to be an equal and refuses to be treat like a fragile little doll. I really loved him.
I loved the universe of the book. I loved that the pack isn’t about wolves only, there’re other species, bears, tigers, witches, seers… I really liked this about them. The story and the plot were good, between Rick and Kay story, we also have danger, complot and threat against them. It was captivating and interesting.
I’m looking forward for the next book, and I will follow this series with great interest.
This book was soooooo long. Not that it’s a bad thing per se, but at times I really felt that it you know. Especially when there was a lot of explaining and world building going on, taking away from the love story between the two MC’s. I get that it’s needed for a series like this, but I just found myself being bored from time to time. With other words this is very, very slow burn.
But Rick and Kai were very interesting MC’s though and I enjoyed them together as well as I enjoyed quite a few of the secondary characters and the settings.
Let’s talk about Rick for a while. He’s supposed to be this alpha type, yet very caring, smart and understanding. Most of the time I really enjoyed that. However, suddenly towards the end he lost all that and got all bad at communicating and did some things that didn’t fit his character. I don’t know what happened there, but I didn’t like it.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this start of the series, and I’m interested in seeing where the story of the Kincaid pack is going. I can tell that there’s a lot of things brewing under the surface.
