Though still carrying the scars of his past as an intergalactic soldier, Emvor doesn’t mind the quiet of his chosen life as a farmer. He doesn’t even mind that most nights are lonely on remote Cassa, but he does need help around his farm. A mail-order bride from his homeworld seems like the perfect solution. She’ll be a tall, sturdy female to help with the chores and bear his children.… children.
Unfortunately, the person that arrives is Nicola. She’s small, delicate…and human. She also knows nothing about farming, and she’s lied and deceived her way across the galaxy to get to Cassa so she can hide from those that would capture her. She’s a problem, and also the most enticing thing he’s ever seen.
Now Emvor has to decide…can he keep the woman who’s nothing like what he asked for but is everything he needs?

Wonderful brain candy!
To think I bought this book back 2018 and entirely forgot I even had it! Well, I did pick the perfect time to read something fun while I’ve been keep in a funk. Wonderful characters on a planet that could had been Risda, but not. Same ol’ Mesakkah and agriplanet culture (ie., nosy neighbors). Both Emvo’sr and Nicola’s relationship evolved into something meaningful and believable. (Glad they never showed for that neighborhood potluck gathering! I had predicted the predictable, and Dixon quashed that!)
Definitely a long short story I’d reread again!

Thank you, Liz K, a reviewer on Amazon!
this reminded me of Riv’s Santuary by A.G. Wilde but without the angst. Ruby does not write romance novels with a big problem the characters must overcome. It’s all about the couple and their romance. Good quick read if you want some sexy alien but if you want the angst and overcoming of issues this will not be for you. It’s quick, sexy, and then done.
The Alien’s Mail-Order Bride (Risdaverse #0.25) is a sweet and sexy short story and a good read. It is a fun and witty story that also has a bit of emotions. He wanted a specific mail order bride but what he got looked like what he asked for but something wasn’t quite right. Only to find that his instincts are right and the creature before him was nothing like he asked.
I really enjoyed this story! It is so different from Ruby’s other works. It takes time for Emvor to fall in love with Nicola. Getting to see Nicola break down Emvor’s walls by just being herself was so amazing. These two were so much fun to read about. We get lots of build up and the tension is incredible. I loved getting to see them both fall in love slowly. It was so wonderful. This was such an amazing read. I love Nicola and Emvor.
5 stars!
I drop everything when Ruby Dixon releases a new book. As soon as I seen that a friend reviewed it – Hi, TriciaLen – I had to stop what I was doing and read it. Of course I wasn’t disappointed. I was a little surprised, though.
You see, I am not a novella lover. I actually avoid novellas unless I love the series and/or the author. Novellas, for me, usually mean rushed storylines and plot holes. Those are two of my biggest pet peeves in any book. I need for everything to be wrapped up nicely in a complete and orderly fashion. Nothing should be left unsaid or untouched. As much as I love Ruby, she has rushed through some of her full-length novels so I was hesitant starting this one.
Leave it to Ruby prove me wrong. There was background information given on both main characters. We get to see them face their fears and fall for each other. All in 84 pages! It was wonderful. It was heartwarming. Most importantly, it is a complete story.
All alien-lovers should read this. Highly recommended!

This was a delightful little romance. While still somewhat predicatable, this was not exactly your typical mail-order bride story, even for an alien planet. I quiet enjoyed the quick read aspect for the novella format, and consumed it in just one sitting. Still, it would have been nice to see more of Emvor and Nicola, especially after their future was decided.
