In an enthralling new historical novel from national bestselling author Kate Quinn, two women—a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France during World War I and an unconventional American socialite searching for her cousin in 1947—are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption.
1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She’s also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie’s parents banish her to Europe to have her “little problem” taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister.
1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she’s recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she’s trained by the mesmerizing Lili, the “Queen of Spies”, who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy’s nose.
Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. Until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn’t heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth…no matter where it leads.
“Both funny and heartbreaking, this epic journey of two courageous women is an unforgettable tale of little-known wartime glory and sacrifice. Quinn knocks it out of the park with this spectacular book!”—Stephanie Dray, New York Times bestselling author of America’s First Daughter

Marketed as historical fiction, but it’s actually a Harlequin romance.
It will make you weep feminist tears.
I like how the story brought two time periods together , informed us of the history of both periods with interesting characters and made things work out in the end.
🙂
really good!
I couldn’t put it down once I started it.
The Alice Network was an exceptional read. I loved it. This book was so compelling I could hardly put it down. An epic read that delves into the lives of the brave woman that gave so much to spy during the War. I loved Eve, Charlie and Finn. This well written story is factual as well as fictional and the ending is fantastic. Looking forward to reading more of this Authors work.
I give The Alice Network 5 stars for its unforgettable story.
I would recommend this book to Historical Fiction Fans.
I am about 1/2-way through this book and loving it. ( Bought The Huntress to download when it is released at the end of this month.) Got this in paperback because I knew it would be a ‘book to share’ with my friends. It will be one of those that I won’t want to end as I like the main characters so much—tragic, quirky, brave, funny in their own ways….. One cannot read this without having such enormous respect for the women who so courageously put it ALL on the line to help the war efforts. It’s a great read!!
Loved it. Learned about female spies in WWI. Interesting!
I was interested to learn more about women who acted as spies during the world wars and the great risks they experienced with little or no preparation or protection. Great description of characters and events.
A searing, poignant portrait of two strong, courageous women during World War I and in the aftermath of World II. Kate Quinn plumbs the depths of the soul and what it means to make sacrifices. Quinn demonstrates that true bravery can be found within all of us and comes when confronted by unspeakable cruelty and evil. A triumph of the human spirit. This novel will linger in the reader’s mind long after the last page is turned.
A great read! So well developed, that the characters came to life. Did not want to put it down, but also didn’t want it to end.
A wonderful story of strong, intelligent women risking their lives to aid the war effort against the Nazis. The story goes back and forth through time following a young upper class woman who is unwed and pregnant and a woman who was a spy for the Allied forces.
I loved so many things about this book. The writing and story telling are amazing, as is the way the two point of views (one from post WWII and one during WWI) are interwoven and deeply connected. I especially enjoyed the romantic subplot.
loved it and I loved learning something new!
If you like historical fiction then this one is for you. Based on the real organization The Alice Network were last spies in WW1. But this is not a war story. All but 3 of the characters are actual real people involved in the Alice Network. It is full of suspense and surprises. Please read it, you won’t be disappointed.
One of the best, most fascinating, books I’ve read.
I loved it!
Loved it!
I loved this book. Before reading, I was unaware of the work of the women spies in WWI and the dangers they faced.
THE ALICE NETWORK by Kate Quinn is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Fantastic story, true-to-life characters, and perfect pacing. There’s even a character named Finn Kilgore. It doesn’t get any better than that! Highly recommend.
