I was warned about Tristan Cole.
“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”
It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.
But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.
We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both … looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.
Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

I had heard friends talk about this book for a while and finally got the chance to read it and I am so glad I did. This is a story that will have you crying from the very beginning. It will also have you laughing, will break your heart and make you wish for happily ever after. Because sometimes too much pain is a loss that can not be healed. Tristan has lost his wife and child while Elizabeth has lost her husband. When they meet, she sees something in him that she feels inside herself, a broken soul. Can they help each other and learn to breathe again? What is Tanner’s secret and will it destroy both Tristan and Elizabeth? I read a lot of books and once in a while I come across a story that just touches my heart in a way that no other has and it stays with me and I want everyone to know about it. This is a first for me from Brittainy C. Cherry and it will not be the last. I loved this story and I hope you give it a try and love it too.
O. My!!!! This book! In a word, it was unreal – although there really isn’t a simple way to describe the feeling it leaves you with. The amount of raw emotion and angst packed into this story is just that, unreal. Two people met, both so broken – thought to be beyond repair – but still, is the most broken soul truly lost?
I can’t do Lizzie and Tristan justice in a short review, I can’t. So I’m gonna go deep here for a second. What I can say is this book truly touched my heart. I feel better for having experienced it.
Brittainy Cherry’s writing style is exceptional and her ability to evoke intense emotion is nearly beyond compare. 5 Stars simply isn’t enough, but it will have to do. Read this book!!!
I read this book in about a day and a half (work really interferes with my reading!). I was caught up in the story of Tristan and Elizabeth from the very beginning.
This isn’t a genre that I had previously read much of, but I’ve now read 3 in a row of Brittainy Cherry’s books. She’s a great author!
I was not at all prepared for the emotional bomb that was this book. This was one of those books that you really feel all the feels from hilarious moments (I’m looking at you Faye) to deep raw sadness. The way the author seemed to capture the pain of grief and loss was something you could feel in your bones. Could two people who had been through huge tragedy find the pieces of shattered brokenness and heal each other? That is so much of what this book was and I LOVED IT so much. Things took a left turn near the end but I thought it was a nice surprise that sort of added a bit of a thriller aspect to the mix. Brittainy C Cherry definitely has a way with words, I went a little crazy highlighting a ton of quotes in this book. I am so excited to have found another gem indie author and cannot wait to check out alllllll of her other books!
Highly recommend.
This book gutted me.
Broke me.
Shattered my heart into tiny pieces.
And it put me back together.
Gives me hope.
The words in this book touched me deeply, and I had to stop reading many times …. so many times …
… to digest these words …
… to ponder them …
… to figure out how exactly they made me feel …
… why they touched me so deeply … …
And to take a breath.
This is one of those books you don’t forget easily, if at all.
A reading highlight and a must-read!

I heard amazing things about this book and I had high expectations, but sadly it wasn’t as great as I expected.
As for the story, I think it was pretty unrealistic how everything was meant to be. Don’t get me wrong, the plot had potential, but just when the story was meant to end, the author put unrealistic turns that lowkey bored me.
As for the characters, I did love Tristan and Elizabeth as individual characters, but together I felt they both fell in love too quickly, hence why the author had to put lots of unnecessary drama to make the story go on.
But the thing that annoyed me the most is the author’s writing. Each chapter had different scenes and each scene was abruptly cut and then you had the next scene out of nowhere. So yeah, the writting structure made no sense to me. I feel Brittainy has lots of potential as an author and her words are beautiful, the thing is she should organize her writing better.
So why did I keep going? As I said, the first 50% was decent and I was rooting for the story, but the second half was full of unrealistic turns and drama that ruined the book for me.
Overall, I think the author has lots of potential if she organizes her writting better and avoids drama. I will give her a couple more chances to see if she is the right author for me ot not.
Breathtakingly Beautiful!! I loved this book from start to finish. I’ve read many books and this is one of the few that brought me to tears. Very emotional but beautifully written. The main characters are so well developed, that I found myself thinking about them even when I wasn’t reading. Such a emotional sad story that blooms with hope and love. This is the first book I have read by Brittainy Cherry but it won’t be the last!! A must read for the romantics at heart!! One of the best books I’ve ever read!!
This was not my first stint with Brittany C. Cherry and so I had high expectations for this book and she did not disappoint. A note of warning if you plan to read this book ensure you have a box of tissues nearby as The Air He Breathes will tear your heart to pieces and slowly put it back together again.
This was not your typical romance. It’s a story of loss, grief, acceptance, moving on and finding love once again under the most incredible circumstances and with the most unlikely person.
My heart broke for the characters. Losing someone is never easy and the circumstances under which they both lost the love of their lives were both tragic and heart-breaking. Tristan’s loss was greater as he lost both his wife and child. Not to downplay Elizabeth’s loss, as she lost her husband, but she had her daughter, Emma, who brought some light to her darkness.
Tristan’s pain ran so deep it would appear he could not manage, however Elizabeth’s and Emma’s appearance in his life brought peace to his broken heart and kick-started the healing process for them both.
Now Tristan and Elizabeth did not meet under ideal circumstances. However, at the end of that interaction, I laughed so hard that tears came to my eyes. Despite, his abrasive behaviour, Elizabeth stood her ground with him.
The author did an outstanding job with her portrayal of these broken characters. She made their pain feel so real that I could not help but sympathize with them. She showed that there was more to Tristan than one initially thought. Throughout, the story’s progress, his gentle and caring nature came to light.
I enjoyed the romance. Their relationship started out as means of getting over their loss and slowly developed into something meaningful and lasting.
The secondary characters brought some light moments to the story, although there were one or two I would have wanted to disappear as they only made things difficult for the main characters.
I had a theory as it relates to the accident that destroyed both their worlds, and I was right on all counts. The revelation proved devastating and had the potential to destroy their new found happiness or push them to the next step of their healing process.
Narration
I had purchased the e-book, but when I discovered it was available in Audible Escape, I went the audio route. This was my first time listening to Brian Pallino and Erin Mallon. I thought they both did an excellent job in portraying the voices and the mood of the characters.
Conclusion/Recommendation
I had a wonderful time with The Air He Breathes and would definitely recommend it to fans of contemporary romance.

This story was absolutely heartbreaking in the best possible way. The loss of a person you love is never easy and it’s something that always stays with you. Tristan was wrecked by his loss and afraid to let go while Elizabeth was trying to move past it becoming the most unlikely of friends. I loved this story!!!
One of my favorites from this author. You can’t go wrong reading a Brittany Cherry book and this is one of her best!
One of my favourite books!
Heartbreaking, angst, love and great moment are the perfect combination for this story to come alive..
Elizabeth and Tristan two lost souls that have endured the worst pain they could ever imagine in their lives, everything became numb and their future became unknown. they really don’t know how to survive after such a tragedy but life and circumstances have other plans.. Plans that Tristan won’t be so eager to do but eventually will have to embrace.
Elizabeth is strong, bold and is working so hard to finally move with her life but still, memories and feelings keep hunting her around. she and her daughter are beginning a new life but her neighbors and the gossip town are not so eager for her to forget her past.
Elizabeth and Tristan’s chemistry was off the charts, I really love how they both complement so much and how they share so many things that make her unique for each other.. Tristan seemed like he was rough and angry at first but with time I love how he melted and became such a great character and even protector of Lizy and her daughter.
a roller coaster of emotions, twists, and turns that you won’t see them coming…
The Air He Breathes was a highly emotional tale of love lost and found. There was heartbreak and loss and ultimate happiness and love. Tristan and Elizabeth had an amazing love story. They were both so broken by their pasts. I loved watching them heal each other. The storyline was very original. The twists and turns totally surprised me. I loved the side characters. The whole book was perfect.
This audiobook/story was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. I loved it. While I cry when reading fairly often, I rarely do so when listening to an audiobook. This one left me in tears a couple of times. It was a gorgeous and romantic and heartbreaking story.
THIS. BOOK. I finally got around to reading something by Brittainy Cherry, and I’m so glad I did! She definitely deserves her crown as one of the reigning queens of romance and I can’t wait to check out more of her work. ‘The Air He Breathes’ had so much depth, and I found myself getting more and more invested in the story with every page I turned (or, more accurately, flipped on my Kindle). Elizabeth and Tristan’s story is not one to miss. It’s filled with just the right amount of light and dark, and Brittainy’s beautiful writing will stay with you long after you finish the book.
It’s been a long time since a story has dug it’s claws into me and didn’t let go until I finished but from the very first word of this one I knew I was in for it. I’m not talking just pulling at heart strings, I’m talking an all consuming takeover that you feel like you can’t breathe until the very last word. I have to admit, for this very reason I think I have put off reading this author but there is no going back now. I don’t want to and the words this author is able to put together won’t let you go so easily anyway.
Brittainy did a wonderful job with all her characters in this one. The main characters were so beautifully broken in different ways and it was watching them put those differences together to help heal that really blew my breath away in this book. Although there were a couple of things I didn’t quite “get”, the author did a great job of making you understand why. Grief is such a hard thing to write and get across in a book but this author bled grief from the pages. My heart was right there with Elizabeth and Tristan.
The secondary characters really brought this book full circle. I loved every single one of them for what they brought to the book. Emma is definitely the epitome of everything good in this world. Faye is a shining light. Just, well all of them.
I could not put this one down until I knew that Lizzie and Tris were on there way to healing, and with each other. I don’t need that pretty little HEA very often but I needed it with this book. I needed to know these two were going to be okay and that says something very special about the author. All the cracks I accumulated throughout the story was healed with the ending and epilogue of this book. I closed my book fully satisfied.
Brittainy, just go ahead and take my heart until I finish all your books. It’s not like I’m getting it back anyway.
What a WONDERFUL read.
I did not want to put this down from the beginning. There is so much loss here and with that comes so much love.
I kept shaking my head thinking I don’t know what I’d do. I don’t know how I’d react.
The author did an amazing job taking me through this journey of love, loss and life.
I recommend!!
I thought this book was amazing! Loved everything about it. It was so well written, beautiful and captivating from page one.
I absolutely loved this book! Great story and unlike other books.
