The epic story of the queen who founded the Tudor dynasty, told through the eyes of her loyal nursemaid.
Her beauty fuelled a war.
Her courage captured a king.
Her passion would launch the Tudor dynasty.
When her own first child is tragically still-born, the young Mette is pressed into service as a wet-nurse at the court of the mad king, Charles VI of France. Her young charge is the princess, … charge is the princess, Catherine de Valois, caught up in the turbulence and chaos of life at court.
Mette and the child forge a bond, one that transcends Mette’s lowly position.
But as Catherine approaches womanhood, her unique position seals her fate as a pawn between two powerful dynasties. Her brother, The Dauphin and the dark and sinister, Duke of Burgundy will both use Catherine to further the cause of France.
Catherine is powerless to stop them, but with the French defeat at the Battle of Agincourt, the tables turn and suddenly her currency has never been higher. But can Mette protect Catherine from forces at court who seek to harm her or will her loyalty to Catherine place her in even greater danger?

I love historical novels particularly that. In our history… The characters were real the action made sense and it was a wonderful read
The troubled story of England’s Queen Catherine of Valois’ dysfunctional childhood family. Awarded three stars on Goodreads but probably deserves 3.5 stars
Catherine of Valois is the youngest daughter of King Charles VI of France — destined to become the wife of King Henry V of England, the hero of the Battle of Agincourt. Her lonely childhood in …
I liked it’s historical accuracy. I went to Spain recently, and remembered some of the details of this period – impressed my guide!
I love this time in history!
I like a good medieval book and this is one.
Way too much battle information
The first half of the book was fascinating and I really loved learning more about Catherine of Valois and Henry V. Unfortunately the second half of the book was kind of slow moving.
I love historical fiction and this book was well written about a person I didn’t know much about and a time that interests me.
Good book. There is a lot of European history that I don’t know a lot about. This book helped me to understand some of the situations going on at that time. I did feel that in come places it kind of dragged and got bogged down with details.
I laughed, I cried, I learned.
Not my favorite…at times tedious yo read.
A new twist in story telling. Seeing the life of one thru the eyes of another. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
It is a well written novel that helps us to understand the long rivalry between France and England
I knew this story from my study of history, but this book told the story from much earlier on . The history is accurate, and the characters brought to life in all their vulnerability. Loved it! I’m planning to read the sequel next.
I enjoy historical fiction and anyone interested in historical fiction I really like this book dropped the characters alive
kind of long and long and long
Enjoyable.
Good read.
