Attorney Sabre O. Brown takes on three disconcerting new cases, each with its own illusion: a woman claiming she’s been impregnated by a ghost, a threatening parent prone to violence, and a child bride with a heart-breaking First Amendment issue. At the same time, Sabre tries to protect her mother who is dating a suspicious widower she met on online. In Sabre’s search for justice, she is found … near death after a magician’s illusion deviously goes wrong.

Teresa Burrell does it again in another installment of the Advocates series. Attorney Sabre Brown takes on 3 new cases, along with the help of her PI/boyfriend, JP. Keeps you guessing until the end and I couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait for the next one!
I have loved all of the books in the Advocate series, so I was excited when this one was announced since it had been awhile since the last one. I was fortunate enough to even be a beta reader, and I couldn’t put it down!
Let me say I love Teresa Burrell’s writing style. Her books always have a clear, nice flow to them. Her own experience as a lawyer really adds to her stories, because you get a sense of a human element to all her characters and cases in the books. She keeps her language simple enough though to explain the legalese to us non-lawyer folks in a way we can understand.
This particular edition dealt with 3 child cases that were all disturbing in their own ways. Some of these parents make you so mad and my heart aches for these poor children because I know these things really do happen in real life. There are issues like parents using drugs, abuse, and oddly, a case of a religious sanctioned child bride situation. You really feel like you’re right there cheering for the main character Sabre as she is fighting to protect these children.
This time around we also get to learn a little more about Sabre’s mom, and its good to see more of Sabre’s brother Ron as well. The story line of Sabre’s mom’s new beau is an interesting one on its own and I was pretty surprised by the outcome of that one.
I would definitely recommend this whole series to anyone who loves mysteries or a good legal thriller.
This was a difficult topic and how much legaliness to put in, for Teresa to write about, and she did a great job in doing so. The topic are ones we might read about, but what is the legal rights pertaining to them. As children are the focus in her books, it is hard to read of how some of them do suffer, not knowing what else can be done. In this the main issue was religion, a marriage given in name of God, but not legal by state laws. Of a minor to a man old enough to be her father. You have questions where or why did parents allow, did anyone else know and turn them in. She had two other cases that are also dealt with A good story that will compel you to read to the end of how will this end. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I’ve all of Teresa’s book since The Advocate . It’s been great to see the main characters evolve over the series, and including a couple of new ones this book. It’s great to see how Sabre and friends really care about the children and families they represent, and how they go after the “bad guys” Can’t go wrong with this series!
I really like Teresa Burrell books. I’ve read all the books in this series & look forward to more coming. She also has a new Tuper Mystery series. I recommend them all.
A good story with wonderful chracters. I would like to read more by her. I totally recommend it.

More twists than a Wisconsin county road.
Have read every book in The Advocate series….
I enjoyed the advocate’s series. it kept me guessing to the end
Enjoyed reading this book! I could hardly wait until I had time each evening to read. Ended differently than I thought it would.
Too predictable
This was a mixture of good guys and bad guys and the difficulty of the good guys winning in the end. Some fairly good lawyer stuff was helpful but the book needed to end earlier than it did.
