The Hugo and Nebula Award-winning series of swords and sorcery, featuring two unorthodox heroes, from a Grand Master of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Many decades before George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, Grand Master Fritz Leiber ruled the sword-and-sorcery universe. These three short story collections chronicle the unconventional adventures of Leiber’s endearing antiheroes: barbarian … antiheroes: barbarian Fafhrd and former wizard’s apprentice, the Gray Mouser.
Swords and Deviltry: Fafhrd, a handsome barbarian of the Steppes, is seduced by a beautiful prostitute and her equally intoxicating city, while the Gray Mouser, a slum rat wizard-in-training, is tempted by the dark arts. The two men meet on a night of multiple thieveries and an enduring partnership is born.
Swords Against Death: Rogue swordsmen and devoted companions Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser pursue ill-gotten fortunes within the confines of Lankhmar. They cross paths with two wizards, Sheelba of the Eyeless Face and Ningauble of the Seven Eyes, and a most violent clash ensues. Eventually, following further adventures, the two antiheroes end up as indentured swordsman servants to their former foes.
Swords in the Mist: A cloud of concentrated hatred and lean times in Lankhmar compels Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser to temporarily depart the most corrupt metropolis in all of Nehwon as they seek adventure in the realm of the Sea-King–and on a different world entirely.
This must-read collection of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser short stories features multiple Hugo and Nebula Award-nominated tales, and includes the acclaimed novella Ill Met in Lankhmar.

I adore Fritz Leiber books – especially this series.
Blessedly I have been able to acquire this volume again and I shall be in total bliss.
The king of sword and sorcery with some of the funniest dialogue in the genre
I have love classic fantasy from Robert E. Howard’s Conan to Michael Moorcock’s Elric series. The pair of characters definitely have a strong bro-mance going but that is not an issue, I like my heroes to be a fellowship. The series started okay, and just meandered down a random trail. It feels like there just isn’t any focus to the books. I am having to work to complete the trilogy that I bought.
A set of sword & sorcery classics. I’ve read all of these stories many times over the years and they never get old to me, regardless of how old I get.
A master fantasist, Fritz Leiber creates a rich, magical world full of complex and unusual characters.
Good sword and sorcery.
Classic
The stories seemed disjointed an pontless after the first third.
Some of the best Sword-and-Sorcery out there.
A classic of the genre
this is one of the original sword and sorcery books . a good read , but it is a compilation of one chapter stories , not a start to ending story . still likable characters and fast paced .
A classic tale from one of the Grand-Masters and a primary creator of the genre!
One of the most memorable books from my childhood. Gotta love the Grau Mouser.
This is a fantasy classic. One of the best sword and sorcery adventures.
I am a long time fan of Leiber’s works, and am especially entranced by Fahfrd and Grey Mouser series. The best sword and sworcery (sic) to be found anywhere.
I bought this one to re-read, because I so enjoyed them the first time I read them, years ago!
I originally read these books and stories more than tirt years ago as I was getting into D&D. The stories re gripping and highly entertaining. Must read for anybody who loves swords and sorcery!
Well written stories, one can feel the characters feelings, situations and motivations.
Farmer created many of the tropes in modern fantasy in his Fafhrd and the Mouser stories. In some ways the stories are dated, but if you’re a new reader of fantasy you really should dip into these waters. It’ll give you a greater appreciation of current novels.
Writing is a bit dated but the stories are fun.
