TOP TIP: Don’t put out an online ad offering your services as a fake date. Someone will take you up on it.And it won’t just be for one night. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended up being Mason Jackson’s fake girlfriend. He didn’t even want me to be. No—his sister was solely responsible for me being his date for his ten-year high school reunion. Now, she’s responsible for telling his … responsible for telling his parents our relationship is real.
We have no choice. We have to act like this isn’t all a mistake, like it’s not all fake, like we’re totally, completely, utterly, head-over-heels in love with each other.
Simple, right?
Wrong.

I could hardly out this book down. It’s highly entertaining and had me non stop laughing. The characters are hilarious and I just love their sense of humor. I loved Mason’s family. They are quite the cast of charterers and cringeworthy fun. This book had me from drunk funny fake ad until things got all too real. I mean Lauren has a cat so major points from me. Mason and Lauren has such great chemistry that you could feel from the pages even if they didn’t want to acknowledge it. If you’re looking for a funny light read look no further. because once you pick up this book you won’t want to put it down.
I absolutely had so much fun reading The Accidental Girlfriend by Emma Hart. I laughed so much and loved the chemistry between Mason and Lauren, even if it started as a fake relationship, which are some of the best kinds. They had some amazing banter and interactions and I just loved them!
When Lauren places an online ad about being a fake girlfriend, she did not expect Mason Jackson and neither did he! Neither is looking for a relationship, but they cannot deny their chemistry! The story was light and fun read with great characters and story!
Happy reading!
How does her romcoms keep getting better? Like seriously this one was so funny that I didn’t care who heard me laughing out loud to the book. I couldn’t hold it in. Lauren is sarcasm incarnate and since I seem to think that about all of Emma Hart’s heroines I can’t help but think she is that way all the time. Anyway, Lauren gets roped into posting an ad to be a fake date because wine and her friends made her do it. What she doesn’t expect is Mason being the kind of man that she could come home to each night. She cannot have a relationship because she can barely be an adult herself but here they are fake dating that is leading to real feelings. Such a quick and delightful read that you won’t want to miss out.

4.5 Stars!
I love summer reads, the kind of light hearted and funny romance stories that entertain us for an afternoon, and The Accidental Girlfriend is the perfect example! And if you’re a fan of the ‘fake boyfriends’ trope then look no further, this RomCom had me laughing out loud throughout the story. Told in dual POV, something I’m a huge fan of, we get some hilarious insight from both main characters. And you’re going to love the secondary characters; they’re a hoot, too!
“You wouldn’t buy a rotten vegetable. Don’t date one, either, especially if you’ve already thrown it out already.”
When Lauren Green, her sister and friends get together one evening, for pizza and drinks, they decide she needs to start dating, something she’s not interested in. But after a few too many drinks they decide to write an online ad, offering her service as a fake girlfriend. Lauren doesn’t want a boyfriend, she’s happy being single, but to appease everyone she agrees to advertise and look for a fake date. Not thinking anyone would take her funny and sarcastic ad seriously; Lauren’s intrigued when Kirsty contacts her looking for a date for her brother. She has a compelling reason to find her brother a date, and Lauren decides to help him out.
“Yes, yes, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, but I don’t want to catch flies.
I want to swat them.”
Mason Jackson was in a serious relationship for six years until his ex-girlfriend, Claudia, cheated on him, six months ago. Knowing his high school reunion is coming up and sure Claudia will show up, flaunting her new boyfriend, Mason’s sister decides to help him out after seeing an online ad. Mason was hesitant at first but decides maybe it might not be such a bad idea; he really doesn’t want another relationship, so a fake girlfriend might be the answer. He contacts Lauren and they decide to attend the event, one date only, pretending to be in a serious relationship. It’s a good thing he had Lauren by his side when Claudia shows up, wanting to gloat. Lauren doesn’t hesitate and puts Claudia in her place; she leaves Mason admiring his fake girlfriend’s quick wit, brutal honesty, and sharp tongue.
“I’ve had years of dealing with bitches. I deal with one on a regular basis.”
“You do?”
“Yeah. Myself. We’re all bitches. Some of us just hide it a little better than others, which is why it’s a surprise when we let the bitch flag fly high.”
Kirsty decides to meddle with Mason’s love life, again, and tells their parents he’s dating someone, forcing him to invite Lauren out again. This is when all the action really takes off, lucky us!
“I was a terrible excuse for a fake girlfriend. Sweet baby Jesus, this whole thing was going to Hell in a handbasket, and nobody was navigating it.”
4.5 stars
Another brillinatly entertaining romance from Emma Hart.
I loved Lauren, she was hilarious, confident and her sense of humor was wicked and throughly entertaining. Mason is a hot Builder (oh the pictures in my head of him with a tool belt <3), he has a great sense of humour and loves giving lip back when needed. Together the banter is absolutlely entertaining to watch play out.
Once i started this i couldn't put it down resulting in another late night.... whoops, who needs sleep anyway? just wish i didn't have nightmares of leather budgie smugglers after finishing.
Emma never lets me down with ther stories, she always throughly entertains me with her brilliant comedy and swoon-worthy characters
LOVED!! Lauren was so snarky & sarcastic!! Gahhh i seriously loved the banter between her & Mason. It made it impossible to put down and do anything productive.
Emma Hart has me busting out laughing with this book!! I can’t wait to read it again!!!! Brilliant job, Emma Hart!!!!
I haven’t read an Emma Hart book that I didn’t completely love, adore, and cherish. This one made me laugh so hard that I almost peed myself. I love the brashiness of Lauren. She’s a balls-to-the-walls type A personality. Mason completes her on so many levels. They are the perfect couple. The unique way that Hart ended this book where it leads into her next stand alone novel completely pulled me in and made me curious about it. This book is being added to my re-read list. A book this hilarious must be read again and again!!
The night started out innocently enough…well as innocent as girls night can be with a newborn baby, four pizzas, and three bottles of wine. Ok, nothing about girls night is typical. Hey, no one was dragged out of a bar or was involved in a fight, so it’s an improvement. Except the girls talked Lauren into posting an ad to be a fake date for someone and the next morning, she received a response. A fake date is fine and all since that equals no commitment. Lauren likes her life the way it is. She doesn’t need to be catching feelings for a guy who will turn her life upside down. Or ….eek…be the person to give her orgasms instead of her vibrator.
Mason wants to kill his baby sister for answering that ad for him. He just left a long term relationship after his ex cheated on him. He wants to be single for a bit. Enjoy the single life. No, Kirsty decided to meddle. She thought he needed a date for his class reunion since his ex was going to be there with her newest guy and throw that relationship in his face. He just about fell on the floor by what Lauren did at the reunion. The more time he spends with her and texting her, the more he falls for her sarcastic, brass. She’s hilarious and fits right into his eccentric family. So ….the problem is he actually wants to date her even though she has said numerous times that she doesn’t want a relationship.
The Accidental Girlfriend is another laugh out loud romantic comedy from Emma Hart. It fun, sweet and a little bit of a slow burner.
Lauren and Mason were a good match even if it was ‘accidental’.
A drunk Lauren was persuaded by her besties to post an ad offering her services. Nooo, not those kind. Get your head out of the gutter lol.
She offered to be someone’s girlfriend for a one off time. Mason’s sister saw the ad and Kaboom, the rest is history.
They had an instant chemistry, but neither was looking to have a relationship, at least so they thought. But, soon, after spending a little time texting and meeting up, they start to get the ‘feels’ and it’s all just one crazy ride from there on.
There were some hilarious moments in the story, the secondary characters were something else!! Line dancing and senior moments not to be missed!!!
I had a blast reading this one and I’m sure you will too. Grab your copy today.
The Accidental Girlfriend is another fun romantic comedy from Emma Hart!
I really enjoyed the banter and chemistry between Lauren and Mason. Lauren is unapologetically herself which was refreshing in a romance heroine. Her close group of friends who talk her into posting an ad to be a fake date. Mason ends up being that date, but of course things get complicated. The secondary characters were also pretty funny, especially Mason’s family.
While I liked the plot, it felt rushed at times. Mason and Lauren were both pretty straightforward characters who mention their hang ups both in first person narration and to their friends. However, I do wish we had gotten to see a bit more of their spending time together/getting to know the other person before their fake relationship changed.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This was a cute, sweet read that had some sassy and hot punches! This is a solid 4.5 outta 5 stars from me, I definitely laughed out loud with this, but not TOO much if you know what I mean. Sometimes romcoms can focus so much on one liners and zings that it isn’t funny if the whole thing is a joke, but this my friends is not that type of book.
Lauren and Mason are both single and happen to fall into a fake date that will show up Mason’s ex who is a total b during a reunion. Then things kind of get out of hand where the fake date continues as Mason’s family is not involved. As these two continue pretending to be in a relationship, is there any hope that the two most closed off people could actually find comfort in each other? Read the book to see! 😉
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I liked how things progressed organically and the situations that arose during it all. I loved the characters and even the secondary characters, I freaking loved Lauren’s friends! If you are trying to decide if you want to read this book, I say go for it if you want more of a playful banter but steamy scenes!
PS: I received this book as an ARC but am voluntarily and honestly reviewing it!
I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions expressed in my review are my own.
This book was absolutely delightful! It had me laughing out loud throughout the entire story. I seriously couldn’t put it down.
The main characters in the story were fantastic! Their chemistry was off the charts hot. Their banter and the spark between them really drove the story. I immediately fell in love with Lauren’s no-holds-barred personality. She was unapologetically herself and she didn’t hold back. She constantly had me laughing with her witty humor. Mason was just as much of an open book as Lauren. I loved getting both of their POVs in the story. I loved Mason’s crazy family and the way that Lauren seamlessly melted into their ranks.
I really enjoyed the romance. Since the chemistry was written so well, the romantic tension was simmering. I love that the main characters were so alike and that they truly got along perfectly. They fit each other like puzzle pieces.
The plot of this story is a fake romance trope and Emma Hart really pulls it off well. Mostly because of the wonderful way that she writes the chemistry between the main characters. There was enough conflict to make things interesting and everything plays out in a very believable way. The only thing that I didn’t like about the book was the length. There was no problem with the story, but it felt like it was over way too quickly. This is a rather short title. I would have preferred to see more happen between the two main characters. The conflicts were present but were resolved a little too quickly in my opinion.
Overall, I couldn’t have been happier with this story! This is my first time reading Emma Hart but it will not be my last! I love her writing style. It is so smooth and her characters are wildly entertaining. I can’t wait to dive into another book by Emma Hart!
Well, where do I start?! Maybe with the first line in the book:
“I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have hemorrhoids.”
This had me laughing so hard, because let’s face it: it’s true, but nobody talks about this sh**, only our pink-hair-no-filter-that’s-why-we-love-her author Emma Hart! I never marked so many passages in a book before. This is probably the bestest of best books she has written so far. And I read her books since 2013.
Lauren and Mason meet through an online ad, she put up at a girls night. His sister responded, because she thought he needed a plus one for his school reunion.
The banter between these two, Lauren’s sassy/ironic/sarcastic responses, Mason’s humor, this all had me laughing so hard. I loved these two from the beginning, and also that this was a drama free book! It’s funny, slow-burn, adorable, swoon worthy, and absolutely fantastic!
Pure Rom-Com brilliance, a classic Emma Hart book through and through, an absolute delight to read, my face was aching from so much smiling and laughing, I loved it!
Lauren is a little worse for wear alcohol wise when she lets her friends and sister talk her into placing an ad on line offering her services as a fake girlfriend for one night only, as if anyone would answer this and take up her offer, right? Except they do! Mason’s sister wants him to move on after a being in a relationship 6 months ago where she cheated on him, so knowing Mason has a reunion to go to and his ex will be there, she answers Lauren’s ad and sets them up for a fake date.
Lauren and Mason are perfect together, neither are looking for a relationship. Lauren is awesome, full of snark, loving and loyal to her friends, always there for her sister and her little niece, she has no filter, she says what she means and there is no pretence about her, she is literally a breath of fresh air. Mason is a hunk of a man, trying to move on after his ex did the nasty on him, not ready for anything else yet despite what his sister and mother would like, he has the classic Emma Hart crazy family members that will have you laughing out loud with their antics! Mason got Lauren’s personality, she was refreshingly outspoken and didn’t hold back, and he loved nothing more than to push her buttons and get her all riled up! The banter between them was hilarious and their chemistry was off the chart.
Brilliantly written this one, a great fake relationship read that will leave your sides sore from laughing and swooning from all the hot chemistry between Mason and Lauren. One of my top reads from Emma, reading this will make your day, give it a go.
Favorite Quotes:
You know, if we were monkeys, she’d be the kind of person I’d fling my poop at.
This is why you’re single. The only filter you use is on Instagram.
“Give the kid a break, Nadia,” Grandpa Ernie said, wiping his mouth with a napkin and reaching for his whiskey. “He’s only twenty-eight. Men don’t have alarm clocks in their genitals like you women.”
It’s about time you got back out on the market before you go stale. Women are starting to date younger men, did you know that? I see it all the time on that celebrity channel with the housewives.
She was the kind of woman who’d run out of f*s to give by her fifth birthday and couldn’t care less what anyone thought about that. There was a chance we could be friends. I regularly found myself lacking in f*s. Unless I stubbed my toe, then they all came pouring out.
“I’ve got a list of grievances, if you’d like to hear them.” “Why don’t you keep them up your sleeve for now, Aunt Pru? You never know when you’ll need them.” “Quite right, quite right. I’ve been saving them for my speech at your wedding, but I’m starting to think you’ll never get married.”
Thankfully, that ship has sailed and sunk.
My Review:
This wickedly funny treasure was a total delight; my face got a workout from near constant giggle-snorting and smirking as I read. The characters were adorable and uniquely appealing, I was endlessly entertained by Lauren’s sharp wit and clever snark, she was a feisty and saucy minx. Written in my favorite dual POV, the crisp and engaging storylines sparkled with irreverent humor and impudent levity. I couldn’t get enough of it and rued reaching the last page.
The Accidental Girlfriend will have you making shirts from some of the one-liners! I’ve never highlighted so many quotes in a book before, and this was the perfect light-hearted comedy.
Get ready for another witty, funny read from Emma Hart! Lauren somehow gets sucked into making an online advertisement for a fake date, and Mason’s sister actually responds! What starts out as a fake date turns into a fake relationship all thanks again to Mason’s sister. With the twist of Mason’s ex-girlfriend thrown into the mix with the added nonexistent filter from Lauren, this book was bound to be as amazing as it was! This was honestly one of the best books that Emma has given us – I could not stop continually laughing and wishing this was the type of stuff that came out of my mouth! Per usual, I love Emma’s style of writing and that her books are the perfect length and provide the perfect amount of context for these stand alones to feel like you’ve been reading about these characters forever. I really can’t get enough of Emma’s books and I can’t wait for the next one, especially since Emma has linked this book and the next together (peep the ending)!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Lauren and Mason crack me up!! What started out with wine and friends turned out so much more than she was thinking. She was just wanting to be a fake girlfriend for one night and look how that turned out for her!
I loved their sense of humor that had me laughing out loud. I want some of those coffee mugs with the slogans! I know when I read this authors books I’m going to laugh but it seemed like I laughed harder at this one.
This is a great fast read that I couldn’t put down!!!
Emma Hart continues to give us books that bring hilariousness. Between the snickers, giggles and belly laughs, she also gives us sweet love story. With a snarky, sassy Lauren, tall, dark and handsome Mason, and Ms. Hart dazzling writing, this book will have you happy from page 1.
Starting with an online ad that leads to a fake relationship, Lauren and Mason, clicked from the beginning. They played their cheeky viewpoints off each other with witty, sarcastic humor. When they break some relationship rules and those pesky feelings start to escalate, they have to exam their views on relationships and love.
The story is infused with secondary characters that lend so much to the story. You feel like most of them could be people that you have had in your life.
I have always recommended Emma Hart’s rom-coms for anyone who wants a laugh out loud read. The Accidental Girlfriend will go to the top of this list.
This book was seriously a laugh out loud book. Emma Hart loves to write about fun loving characters who speak their minds with no filter. This leaves you laughing from start to finish.
This book literally starts with girl’s night. Four best friends hanging out getting drunk and creating a profile for an online site offering up Lauren’s services as a fake date. What could possibly go wrong?!
Enter Kirsty, Mason’s annoying little sister. She responds to the ad and sets her brother up on a fake date with Lauren. He needs a date for his high school reunion so he can make his ex- jealous. Of course, when they meet, Mason is HOT and Lauren is just as sexy.
The banter between them will keep you laughing not to mention Lauren’s crazy cat, the nosy neighbor next door and put in some crazy old people and you won’t be able to put the book down. This has all the elements that Emma Hart is known for in her books with tons more laughter.
A great read!
