TOP TIP: Don’t put out an online ad offering your services as a fake date. Someone will take you up on it.And it won’t just be for one night. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended up being Mason Jackson’s fake girlfriend. He didn’t even want me to be. No—his sister was solely responsible for me being his date for his ten-year high school reunion. Now, she’s responsible for telling his … responsible for telling his parents our relationship is real.
We have no choice. We have to act like this isn’t all a mistake, like it’s not all fake, like we’re totally, completely, utterly, head-over-heels in love with each other.
Simple, right?
Wrong.

“Offering my services as a fake date for one night only. Got a wedding you need a date for? I’m a classy girl in public with a dirty side in private. How about a family get-together where you’re the only single grandchild going? This blue-eyed brunette with a passion for pizza is the one you’ve been looking for. Or if you’re heading to a party and need to make that one person jealous—I’ve got an ass you could crack diamond on.
Contact me at @gmail.com">lauren.a.green@gmail.com with your needs.
And no, I’m not charging.
But I’m not buying my own drinks either.”
This ad is the start to Lauren and Mason’s love story and what follows is a fresh take on the fake relationship trope. Hilariously entertaining and a feel good, fast read, I couldn’t put it down.
Mason isn’t looking for love. He doesn’t even want a relationship after his fiancé of 6 years cheated on him. He has a reunion to attend and he is fine with going alone even if it means seeing his ex-fiancé again. His sister has other ideas, though, and thinks he needs a date to face his ex. When she sees the online ad for a fake date, she jumps at the opportunity to help her brother out, even if didn’t ask for help.
Lauren and Mason end up going on the “fake date” and even though it goes really well, neither are interested in a relationship and they part ways. They assume they won’t see each other again but they didn’t factor in the meddlesome people in their lives. When they are forced to play pretend a little longer, feelings grow and everything changes. They can’t deny that there is something between them and the more they hang out the more they get to know each other, discovering just how perfect of a match they are.
“I didn’t want to date. I wasn’t ready to date.
But I hadn’t been ready for Lauren, either.
Yet here she was, in my life, working her way into my heart bit by bit.”
Lauren was so funny! Her wacky sayings were hilarious and I loved her confidence while being her true self. Mason was a sweetheart and I loved that he got Lauren. They have the same sense of humor and understood each other. I just loved every moment these two were together.
With their laugh out loud exchanges and fun personalities, Lauren and Mason are so great as a couple. They have fantastic chemistry, witty banter, and the attraction is believable. They just clicked and I could feel their connection. The progression from pretending to having real feelings is natural and well-paced. I loved the humor and heat, and I thought that the lack of angst and the functionality of their relationship was refreshing.
I have to give a shout out to the secondary characters. They are too funny! I loved that they meddle and set everything in motion. Mason’s sister, Kirsty, may overstep her boundaries but everything works out in the end. I would love to get my hands on her story. And Aunt Pru was a hoot! I was cracking up with everything she did. Every friend and family member just added to the fun and I loved seeing them interact with Mason and Lauren.
Overall, I really enjoyed The Accidental girlfriend. It is 100% lighthearted fun, and I couldn’t put it down!
4 There’s a Cat on my Head Stars!!!
I knew from the minute I started this book and was introduced to Lauren, her sister, who shares so much more than I wanted to know about her and her two besties I was going to have a fun time reading this book…and I was right! This is Ms. Hart at her snarkiest best and I found myself snort laughing more than a few times….whether it’s from her devious cat Henry and his antics or Mason’s home videos that he shared with Lauren!
What starts as a joke, placing an ad online to be a fake date, because let’s face it, after several glasses of wine on a girls night, there’s no saying what’s going to happen, and ends up with two people finding themselves spending more and more time together, even if there were rules, is the best kind of love story!
I absolutely love Mason. He’s all kinds of hot and sexy, has a family that is funnier than all get out, and likes Lauren for who she is, doesn’t mind her cat Henry, there’s a secret to that, and has the same sense of humor as her so there’s no limit to their laughter.
These two were on point with each other and I loved how their relationship developed. Ms. Hart has the ability to write her characters with so much detail that I could actually picture them in the different scenes. And trust me, there were times that I was rolling with laughter. Especially when Mason’s ex meets her for the first time…I wish I had that kind of moxy!!
Watching Lauren and Mason find love, even if they weren’t looking for it, was so much fun. Add in the cast of secondary characters that in and of themselves were a hoot and this is all around a fabulous lighthearted and fun read!

Emma Hart has quickly become my go-to author when I need a light, fun read. She never fails to deliver laugh out loud stories that leave me with aching sides and a huge smile on my face. The Accidental Girlfriend is her latest hit and the complete savior to my crazy, horrible week. From the moment I picked this book up I couldn’t put it down, and all my stress just melted away!
A drunken girls night ends with a fake Craigslist ad, and a meddling sister immediately responds. And this is how Lauren and Mason end up in a fake relationship. Their playful banter is addicting, their sizzling attraction undeniable (well to everyone but them), and I couldn’t get enough of them.
Their story is fun and sweet, with a huge dose of humor and the tiniest dash of drama. As usual with a Emma Hart book, I fell in love with these characters. I want Lauren to be my new best friend, with her quirky attitude and unfiltered remarks. Mason is the perfect book boyfriend, dreamy and sweet, even with a cat sitting on his toast! And then there’s Mason’s family. They took the comedy level from hilarious to off the charts. I think I’ve said this multiple times after one of her books, but Emma, please give us a book with all these elderly characters!!
This is the perfect book to kick off your summer at the beach or turn your frown upside down. I dare you to read this and not break into a huge grin within the first few pages! I loved The Accidental Girlfriend, and can’t wait to see what comes next from Emma Hart!
Oh. My. Lanta.
I was laughing almost as soon as I started this story. Lauren was 100% relatable, not to mention quick-witted and sarcastic to an award worthy level. She and her friends begin by placing an online ad for a fake date (wine was involved, so I’m sure you understand). When she meets her fake date, he’s a pretty fantastic guy who has unfortunately been burned by his ex. On their first meeting, I knew this was a match made in heaven because of their banter.
This story had fantastic main characters, but even better was filled with an entire cast of amazingly unique characters. Everyone had their own personality and shined through whenever they appeared on the page. My favorites were Aunt Pru and Mason’s nosy neighbor, who ironically gives some of the best dating advice: “You wouldn’t buy a rotten vegetable. Don’t date one, either, especially if you’ve already thrown it out once.”
It seems that Emma’s writing is veering more toward snarky, witty banter, laugh out loud comedy, and uniquely charming characters. I have been LOVING these stories that give me love, just enough heat, and a story that makes me smile all the way through.
When Lauren Green lets her sister and girlfriends talk her into posting an ad on Craigslist to be a fake girlfriend for a night, she never expected to meet a man she could really fall for. And, when Mason Jackson lets his younger sister talk him into going to his reunion with a fake date to make his ex jealous, he never expected to actually want to spend more time with the woman doing him a favor. Good thing neither was looking for anything lasting more than one night.
But, when Mason’s sister tells his mom that Lauren and he are dating, they agree to pretend it’s real for a few weeks to get both their families off their backs for being single. Being in a fake relationship is way better than being in a real one, right? But, the more time they spend together, the less fake things feel . . . .and, neither is looking for that, or are they?
Emma Hart’s The Accidental Girlfriend is a hilariously good time filled with sarcastic banter, crazy relatives and a sweet love story that was never supposed to happen.
I absolutely adored Lauren. She is a woman who knows what she likes and what she wants. She is super witty, owns her inner b*tch and speaks fluent sarcasm like it’s a second language. But, she also has a sweet side hidden beneath those layers and I loved her for it. Mason is also an upstanding guy who adores all that Lauren has to offer . . including her prickly side that he sees as adorable. He’s just as quick with a comeback as she is, which makes their banter riveting throughout this book. I loved that they both stayed true to who they were, even when thrown into this ridiculous situation. And, that Mason knows he isn’t going to let Lauren walk away without convincing her to give a real relationship a shot.
This book was funny, sexy and Lauren and Mason were simply adorable together. 5 stars!
The Accidental Girlfriend is Emma Hart’s new fake boyfriend, hilarious romance. Emma always entertains me with her funny, sassy characters who get themselves into crazy situations. Lauren is a feisty thing who isn’t afraid to be who she is. If you don’t like it, you can leave. She’s also funny and willing to do anything. Like put an ad out to be a fake girlfriend after her friends give her a hard time for being single. Someone actually answers her ad and he’s nothing like she thought he’d be. Mason. He’s freaking hot and nice and funny. And he gets her. She’s a special brand of nuts and he isn’t deterred. They have a fun night together and she gets free food, so that’s a win. But after another fake date, real feelings start happening. Neither of them wants a real relationship, but when you meet someone and you just click, you can only say no for so long. Mason totally likes this crazy chick. She’s different from his ex and makes him think not all women are cheating jerks. There’s just something about her that makes him wish it weren’t fake. He’s the first to admit it, can he convince Lauren to give them a real shot? I loved this story! It’s hilarious, but also sweet. I laughed out loud and shook my head a lot. I wish I could be more like Lauren! Overall, it has the perfect mix of fun, sexy, humor, realness, friendship and family.
This! This is why Emma Hart is an automatic one click author for me! The Accidental Girlfriend had me busting out laughing from the very first line and hooked me right then! I couldn’t put it down.
Lauren is absolutely hilarious, her quick wit and fun loving personality had me rooting for her form the start.
A few drinks at girls night has Lauren and her friends posting an ad to Craigslist to find her a man. In just a few hours she gets a response from the sexy, swoony Mason Jackson, for a fake date.
I couldn’t get enough of this hilariously fun friends-to-lovers story. I highly recommend you pick this one up!
I want more Lauren and Mason!!!! These two were HILARIOUS from beginning to end. They were a match base in heaven, lol. They met due to a drunken ad Lauren placed and Mason’s meddling sister responded. After that the adventures began, lol. They actually hit it off and his family loved her. As much as they tried maintaining a “fake” relationship feelings got involved and they were even more perfect. No drama, an ex that thought she can intimidate Lauren but joke was on her, lol, and a crazy cat. Loved it!!!
I never seem to go wrong with Emma Hart’s romcoms and this one is an other winner for me. The book is so full of funny comments and sassy snark that I was constantly laughing while reading. I adore the characters because they’re are your everyday people next door. A bartender and a construction worker. They are cleverly developed and well written and I basically can’t get enough of them.
These two have all the sarcasm and snark and then some. Mason and Lauren have an unconventional start, but a very amusing one. These two have such similar personalities and their chemistry us flawless. I love how fun their relationship is and how snarky they both are. They are so cute trying to be a fake couple and don’t even realize there is nothing fake about it. I adored their story to bits!
Emma Hart just made me laugh like crazy, The Accidental Girlfriend was so much more than I expected. Like always, Emma Hard does NOT disappoint!!!
Lauren is just what I love on a person, she’s funny, likes to joke around, doesn’t let things upset her. She’s just… AWESOME! I loved how sarcastic she was, it just gave the book that warm and perfect vibe. The banter and chemistry between Lauren and Mason was PERFECT!!! These two were meant to be, I just love how Mason is all im control to handle Lauren and her sassy mouth.
This book will have you laughing and swooning so much! A MUST read!!!
Emma Hart continues to make me smile in complete adoration! Her RomComs are always so sweet, so full of fun. I find myself completely enamoured with her characters. Lauren is just how I image the author’s personality to be… hilarious (like woops I just peed a little funny), she’s snarky and totally raunchy with the humor of a 12 year old boy! However, she’s kind and has a heart of gold. Mason is Lauren’s perfect match! He’s charming and adorably sweet but watch out… his humor is just as sharp as Lauren’s. And their banter is seriously insane!
I can’t get over the perma-grin on my face due to Hart’s writing! The way Emma Hart develops her stories and the amazingly, awkward and jovial characters makes her my favorite RomCom author. Hart’s writing is clear and completely strait forward. It’s a style of writing that I just can’t read quickly enough due to the tears in my eyes from laughter. It’s always perfect timing to read a new Emma Hart book… it just after I’ve read several heart-breaking books that make me sob. Then in walks Miss Hart with a sweet and charming story with a bunch of heat and low drama!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
The Accidental Girlfriend is pure Emma Hart goodness.
Light, funny, witty banter, and quirky moments. As the title suggests, Lauren and Mason go on a fake date that eventually leads to more. I loved Mason, and I especially loved that he was the one that embraced the realness of their relationship. It’s not as often you have a commitment-phobic heroine, so that was refreshing.
Overall, I enjoyed this one, but it was pretty light and easy. Definitely a great summer read.
This was a pretty good read. The writing flowed well, and I liked Mason and Lauren together. I thought they had good chemistry. Mason was a good guy, even though his family was crazy. I wasn’t a big fan of Lauren for most of the story. Reading their conversations got tiring after the 20th one that she had to talk around and around in circles in. It was weird. She felt like she was winning an argument or whatever, but I’m not sure any real person would have tolerated it as well as Mason did. The drama with Claudia was resolved pretty easily. I was happy to see that there wasn’t some over the top craziness in that situation. The ending was sweet, and it fit well with these characters.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
You can always guarantee laughs with an Emma Hart story and this one starts from the first few pages. This group of girlfriends is a riot and there’s no way that this TERRIBLE idea is going to result in anything but true love for Lauren.
It’s a universal law that the more you say “I’m not looking for a relationship” the harder the universe will try to shove your soul mate at you and this is how things go for Mason and Lauren starting with a fake date listing on Craigslist.
So. Much. Fun. If you need a sweet, hilarious romance, can recommend!
Another phenomenal read from Emma Hart.
Throughout this entire novel, I was laughing, swooning, and smiling as big as I could. I always know that this is going to happen, yet, Emma never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful and beautifully written words.
I absolutely loved that this novel was about “fake” dating, and an online add. Throw in the fact that it involves a friends brother, and you can sign me up. I fell head over heels in love with Mason. He is sexy, and confident, yet, willing to listen to others and hear their opinions as well. He, in all honesty, is the perfect book boyfriend.
Add in the utter hilarious moments that will have you laughing so hard you’ll be crying, and you have a novel that you won’t be soon forgetting.
Emma has written yet another must read novel. I promise, if you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down.
5/5 Stars!
Emma is amazing!! I love anything she writes!! This book was so funny! Loved all the characters!! Lauren and Mason are it! Their sarcastic banter is laugh out loud funny! I loved everything about it!! Can’t wait for her next book
While out enjoying a night with her gal pals they convince Lauren to place an ad where she will pose as a fake girlfriend to those in need but just for one evening. They want her to start starting and figure this is the perfect way and after a few shots of liquid courage anything seems like a good idea, but she never expected that anyone would answer.
Mason’s sister has decided that it is time for her brother to get over his cheating ex. She is determined that he needs a date for his high school reunion and if the date is a disaster it will only be one night out of his life right?
Lauren is an unpredictable spitfire that keeps you on your toes as you never know what she is going to do or say next while Mason may appear laidback but he certainly gives as good as he gets. When you combine them with the wacky and wild secondary characters this takes you on a fun adventure that will have you laughing out loud. Neither is looking for a relationship but sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect them.
Absolutely adorable. This story made me swoon and laugh out loud. I loved the push and pull between the characters and the witty banter. I had so much fun reading this story, just as I always do with any Emma Hart book. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
The QUEEN of rom-com is back with another cute, sassy, and hilarious romance novel.
I loved every single page of The Accidental Girlfriend. The heroine, Lauren, is living the single life. She is pressured by her friends to put herself out there again. She puts a fake girlfriend ad on craigslist thinking no one in their right mind would see/respond to it. She thought wrong. .
Mason is trying to get over his ex. His family wants him to start dating again, but he just doesn’t want to be in a relationship for a while. His sister sees Lauren’s ad about a fake girlfriend and emails her on his behalf.
This book is hilarious and the witty banter is great. The angst of keeping things platonic is what had me hooked to the story.
Emma Hart can do no wrong in my mind. I continue to fall in love with her stories and will read anything she publishes.
