‘The Accident’ was a long anticipated latest book in the Grant Garrick Series for me, and was so worth the wait. All the books in this series are excellent reads, but this is the best and most suspenseful because the author, Tom Bierdz turned the storyline around and put Grant in big trouble. As the troubles mounted, he needed a psychiatrist to figure out what, why and how his life was spiraling out of control. He had to use his PI skills to find who committed the murder he was accused of. That’s when I was kept on edge with the best psychological thriller reading, making ‘The Accident’ a must read book. There is no carry over storyline, can be read by itself. I do recommend reading all the books though, they are just too good to miss.
Just my type of book, I didn’t want to put it down. Some twists that weren’t expected but were enjoyed. Rode the emotional roller coaster with the characters and was not let down. Loved the use of social media and the impact that it has on lives.
When two of Dr. Garrick’s patients are involved in a car accident, it brings up some odd questions. What were the two doing there? Then protesters think that the good doctor is actually pushing opioids on his patients, taking sexually advances with them. Nothing could be farther from the truth, but it is his word against many other opinions. When the police discover that the woman in the accident was dead before hand, this puts the doctor on trial for murder! How is Grant Garrick going to come out on this one? Read the book to find out. I personally found the book very interesting and paced just right. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
This book is quite a departure in that Grant Garrick finds himself on the wrong side of the media, when he is accused of inappropriate opiate drug prescribing and even inappropriate sexual behaviour with his patients. This Shows how someone’s reputation can be ruined in the court of social media without any real evidence.
I really like the character of Grant, he is believable and his behaviour is always consistent, and in this book he maintains the characteristics despite the difficulties he encounters. The story is very involved and I found myself turning the virtual pages very fast as I wanted to find out if Grant was going to clear his name.
I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
Psychiatrist Grant Garrick is called to an auto accident involving two of his patients. One is dead and one is in a coma. Why were they together?
One is the son of a friend, another psychiatrist. The other is a young woman he only saw once ..at the request of his friend.
With the victim’s brother … a cop … starts spreading complaints on Twitter and with a vicious reporter after a juicy story, Garrick decides to take a leave of absence from his practice.
If that’s not bad enough … his personal life is falling apart … and he’s being charged with murder.
As are all the books in this series, it is a well written, suspenseful romp through not only the world of psychiatry, but also the legal system. Although fourth in this series, it is easily read as a stand alone. Characters, especially Garrick, are quite credible which is no surprise when looking at this author’s background.
Many thanks to the author for the advanced digital copy of this thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
4.5 Stars
I’ve read several of Mr. Bierdz’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed them. When he offered a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, I couldn’t pass it up. This is well-written, with believable characters that come alive to make you feel part of the action. There are many twists and turns; things keep going from bad to worse for Dr. Garrick; when will the merry-go-round stop? This story keeps you engaged; you won’t want to put it down. I even pre-ordered a copy, to give Mr. Bierdz the support he deserves. I highly recommend this book and I’m looking forward to his next one.
Great suspense with lots of twists. Although I did figure out the “who done it”, there were lots of “oh” moments to make me question and say no maybe not. The main character, Dr. Garrick, a psychiatrist, is so realistic. The author did a great job of keeping it believable. Although there are other books with Dr. Garrick, this is a wonderful stand alone novel. Right up there with books by Johansen and Child. If you read at bedtime prepare to lose sleep, you won’t want to put it down!!
This was a great read with a lot of twists and turns that you won’t see coming. I got sucked into the story from the beginning and couldn’t put it down until the end. And, let me tell you, I would not have ever guessed any of the people were involved. You think you know someone and know their character. This book proves how wrong that assumption can be. Glad to have found this author and can’t wait to read more of his work.
It seems Dr. Grant Garrick just can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble. Once again he’s in hot water and just can’t seem to find his way out. This was a real page turner I didn’t want to put down once I started it

The Accident is book 4 in the Grant Garrick Series but it is written in such a way that it can be read as a standalone. I have read other books in the series, so I am acquainted with the characters, but I could have easily read this book and enjoyed it without having had read the other books first. Having said that, I did enjoy the first books and would definitely recommend that you read those as well.
In The Accident, Grant finds himself at the scene of a particularly gruesome accident scene. Having been called because he had a connection with one of the victims, a young man who is the son of a good friend, he is shocked to find that the other passenger is a patient of his. Her unfortunate death brings many questions to light, most of them seem to be aimed towards Grant. Accusations against him begin to pile up.Wild parties, drug abuse, online harassment, soon Grant is drawn into a web of secrecy and lies that threatens to take him hostage if he doesn’t find out just what happened that fateful night.
Intense thriller!
Grant Garrick has moved on after the suicide of his son and his subsequent divorce from Hannah. He is emotionally unprepared when called to the scene of an accident by the police. One victim, seriously injured, is the son of a colleague and close friend, Win Hempstead. The other victim, deceased, is a woman referred to Grant by Win for treatment. Her subsequent autopsy reveals her death occurred several hours prior to the accident from an overdose and a signed prescription pad from Grants office is found during a search of her apartment. Grant becomes the target of a news and social media campaign for malpractice. As more incriminating evidence is found in his office, Grant is convinced that he is being framed and sets out to discover the perpetrator.
The book is another well written crime thriller in the Grant Garrick series from Tom Bierdz. The story line is suspenseful with plot twists and good characters. I received a free ARC, but my review is honest and voluntary.
When Dr. Grant Garrick has 2 patients involved in a car accident, he is thrown into a mess. Seems like one of them stole drugs from his office during a session, and then proceeded to die from an apparent overdose. The other is in a coma and it’s not known if and when he might awaken. So, when a snoopy reporter finds out about the drugs and then a video surfaces of a sex tape filmed in Dr. Garrick’s office, he is soon convicted in the court of public opinion, and he has no proof of his innocence. He decides his best bet is to find out the truth on his own.
What a tricky, twisted story! I was given an ARC of this by the author. It’s a cool story and I have every intention of catching up on the entire series.
