From USA TODAY Bestselling Author C. L. Stone, read Thief, the first book in The Academy Scarab Beetle Series.
Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she’s desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: … even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming…
Thinking she’s been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it’s her last chance: work with them, or face jail time. Kayli resists at first, but slowly the boys reveal they can be trusted. With Marc, the straight man, Raven, the bad-boy Russian, Corey and Brandon the twins as different as night and day, and Axel their stoic leader, there’s a lot Kayli can learn from these Academy guys about living on the edge of the law. If only she can stay on the good side instead of the bad.
Especially when the job they offer her is more than any of them bargained for. After it’s done, the hunters have become the hunted and their target is now after Kayli. The Academy boys do their best to keep her hidden, but a thief like Kayli will never sit still for long.
Meet an all-new Academy team in Thief, the beginning of the Scarab Beetle series.
Warning: This is a new adult series. Readers of the other *Academy series may need some caution as this series will contain mature sexual and violent situations and themes.*

Interesting read. A bit far fetched. Heroine got involved with every guy.
I love this author. I have read all of her books and they are all very addicting. I wish she would write faster!
I like the characters and the story lines, however I didn’t like the fact that all the characters were interested in the girl and at some point she had feelings for each of the male characters
You must but the series
My first by CL Stone… I enjoyed this book it wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible… I think it is a little too YA…a little too much teenaged angst for me. I think it had really great possibilities that weren’t as well put together as they could have been. I was not aware of the previous series, perhaps you find out a little bit more about the …
I’m really enjoying this series. There is nice character development and plot lines. No rushed endings. Sometimes the characters seem much older than they are. I’m finding this to be an original and am happy I bought the book. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
I really tried to finish this book, but I gave up. The main character just needs to pick a guy and stick with them. I kept getting confused as to who she was involved with at the moment. I think that if she was more focused on what she was doing or at least the story did not jump around so much, I would have enjoyed it more.
Seems the main character is a little confused about who she wants. Kisses a few too many different guys and that kind of threw me, but over all a great read.
A witty, entertaining read
Different than what I usually read Great book
I love this series! I got this first book in the series a few weeks ago and went on to get the rest of them and read them all within a week. I am now reading the Ghostbird series by the same author. The only drawbacks I have found are some errors that should have been caught in editing, but they don’t really take away from the story line.
I enjoyed the first book and now realize that before I find a solution I have to read the second book. Then I find out there are five books in the series and I’m wondering if I need to read all five to come to a final solution.
Story was good but it was disappointing that I couldn’t read how the story ended since you had to buy the sequel to find out. Didn’t appreciate that
The main character was rediculous she kept jumping in to trouble without listening to anyone and she’s always making out with one of the guys, like three guys that are friends and a dude that’s the bad guy! It was still an okay read just a lot of eye rolling and calling her an idiot out loud, will not read more or recommend.
weird and juvenile. didn’t finish!
Unlike Stone’s other Academy series (Ghost Bird–Sang), this main character (Kayli) is not only smart but also ready to step up and take action. For those looking for a Katniss, not a helpless Snow White, you’ll probably prefer the Scarab Beetle series.
It was more graphic (adult label applies more strongly here), and while there still was no …
it was okay lots of action but not something that grips the reader
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the characters. It was an easy read and kept me totally entertained. Few grammatical errors. Well written. Definitely, I recommend you give this book a shot.
Great book and great author CL Stone has a wonderful talent of writing for all her books! definitely recommend reading!!
This book is categorized as ‘new adult romance’ but I think it is more like a Young Adult book and not much to do with romance at all. The only reason this might cross into the new adult category is because the sexual connotation is a little more colorful than generally seen in YA books. The plot and character building are all YA parameters where …
