“Agatha Christie meets Groundhog Day . . . quite unlike anything I’ve ever read, and altogether triumphant.”—A. J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window
Aiden Bishop knows the rules. Evelyn Hardcastle will die every day until he can identify her killer and break the cycle. But every time the day begins again, Aiden wakes up in the body of a different guest at … Aiden wakes up in the body of a different guest at Blackheath Manor. And some of his hosts are more helpful than others. With a locked room mystery that Agatha Christie would envy, Stuart Turton unfurls a breakneck novel of intrigue and suspense.
For fans of Claire North, and Kate Atkinson, The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a breathlessly addictive mystery that follows one man’s race against time to find a killer, with an astonishing time-turning twist that means nothing and no one are quite what they seem.
This inventive debut twists together a thriller of such unexpected creativity it will leave readers guessing until the very last page.

Dense, confusing and, in the end, just too tidy
Don’t waste your time!
I’m usually the type of reader who can figure out “who done it”. This book kept me guessing the whole time! I loved it!
One of my top 3 reads of 2019 so far! There was so many well-built characters and twists and turns it kept me wanting to read more and more.
Turton delivers an intriguing concept, vivid style, and unforgettable characters wrapped up in a murder mystery that’s equal parts Agatha Christie and Stephen King. I can’t remember reading anything quite like it.
Another of my top 10 reads in the first half of 2019 (by writers I don’t know well enough to invite to dinner). For murder mystery fans, this is far from a perfect book, but I have to applaud the author for the ingenious plotting and seemingly impossible structure. But how else could you construct a mystery in which the “detective” jumps bodies and therefore various physical and intellectual skills (as well as serious defects) while reliving the same scenes again and again every time he wakes? There are too many repetitions for my taste and I’m not sure it all comes together, but if you want something fun that bends your mind into origami, I’d give this a try. This is Turton’s debut, and I’m curious what he comes up with next. Writers: an excellent book to study for character archetypes, building suspense, laying clues like bird seed, and teasing the reader. Have a weird idea for a book & think it impossible to carry out? Let Turton’s book give you courage.
To say it bogged down, is just not fair. It’s that kind of story. Reminds me of “Groundhog Day”. You need to be intrigued by the premise, or you may as well hang it up!
Very intricate. I enjoyed it.
A new take on the “Clue” who done it style mystery
Interesting read. Sometimes hard to follow about a sort of Groundhog kind of story. A whodunnit that’s hard to figure out.
interesting book based on knowing someone dies but not knowing the ‘how’ or the ‘why’. the main character has to figure it all out by ‘becoming’ each of the other characters involved
This book was incredibly confusing at first, and for a good ways in I was not sure I would continue but I needed to understand what was happening, so I persevered-and I’m glad I did. It was a “Groundhog Day” meets Agatha Christie’s “And then there were none” and that still doesn’t cover it. It was not an easy read, but worth it in the end.
Absolutely out of the box book. I could not GUESS what was going to happen next. Utterly imaginative and totally unpredictable
Awesome book. It is a real page turner.
I didn’t like this book. It was too Groundhog Day for me.
What a clever storyline! Twisted all over the place. More!
I have never read anything like this book. Twist and turns. Brand new concept. Really keeps me wondering. i can’t wait to finish.
Not what I expected. I expected the main character to live each day over in a different body, instead he moves back and forth between then in a very non linear way. This was a very unique book. I could not figure out the ending! Loved it!
Confusing at times
Wow this is a book you want a hard copy of so you can flip back and forth. The way Turton weaves all these pieces together is truly masterful and I am in awe! Highly recommend if you love whodunnit books.
Unrelentingly grim
