Riley Sullivan is a crime reporter for a local newspaper, Luke Morgan is her Homicide Detective boyfriend and as you can imagine, they are bound to come to heads when it comes to finding the murderer of a local head chef at the local social club.
There is a whole lot going on in this prequel novella. We have murder, blackmail, drug dealing, scorned lovers, demanding newspaper editor and a whole lot more with some twists and turns to get to the end. The author of The 1922 Club Murder, Stacy M. Jones has produced a fast moving, easy to read entertaining book that now has me keen to read the next in the series.
I enjoyed the fact that Riley always seemed to be one step ahead of Luke for the entire story, even though some things were revealed to her purely by chance and because of her very clumsy feet.
I was hooked very early on in the story, finding her writing style to be colourful and descriptive, building the world of Little Rock to be believable and feeling like it could be any town I might happen to visit.
This story is just a taster for the next book Deadly Sins (Riley Sullivan Mystery book 1), giving background to how she becomes a Private Detective.
I would recommend this book if you like murder mysteries, and enjoy series. It is suited to young adults through to mature readers.
I suggest you jump on in and give it a go, you won’t be disappointed, and you will have it read in no time at all.
I was gifted this book by the author Stacy M. Jones.
This is the 1st book that I have read from this author. The story begins with Riley attending a news conference that pertains to a murder that occurred at the 1922 Club. The head chef was killed. Riley returned to her office and gave the info to her boss. He asked her to get more info. As she started looking further into it, she started to interfere with her boyfriend Luke who was the Lead Detective.
As the story went, Riley helped Luke bring the case to conclusion.
To discover the identity of the killer and how they were able to work together, then you need to read this story.
Show of respect is refreshing!
Stacy M. Jones is a new author to me. I find it very refreshing that the main characters (two detectives and crime reporter) show respect for the other, and their professions, while investigating the same case. My experience reading cozy mysteries is that not being the case as a rule. I also appreciate there is no foul language, sexual situations, or graphic violence in this well-written and easy short read from a master storyteller. You can bet that I will be binge reading this series now that I have discovered it.
This is an intriguing murder mystery book. It is well written & hard to put down. Good thing it’s short. There are some swear words. I received a free copy through Book Funnell. This is my voluntary review.
Received a free copy for a review. The characters are interesting and likeable. It is a very entertaining story.
