Detective Lindsay Boxer’s investigation into the disappearance of three teachers escalates from missing persons to murder in this “shocking” Women’s Murder Club thriller (Lisa Gardner, #1 NYT bestselling author). For a trio of colleagues, an innocent night out after class ends in a deadly torture session. They vanish without a clue — until a body turns up. With the safety of San Francisco’s … San Francisco’s entire school system at stake, Lindsay has never been under more pressure. As the chief of police and the press clamor for an arrest in the “school night” case, Lindsay turns to her best friend, investigative journalist Cindy Thomas. Together, Lindsay and Cindy take a new approach to the case, and unexpected facts about the victims leave them stunned.
While Lindsay is engrossed in her investigation, her husband Joe meets an Eastern European woman who claims to have seen a notorious war criminal — long presumed dead — from her home country. Before Lindsay can verify the woman’s statement, Joe’s mystery informant joins the ranks of the missing women. Lindsay, Joe, and the entire Women’s Murder Club must pull together to protect their city and one another — not from a ghost, but from a true monster.

Another great Patterson read. I love the series and cant wait for each new one to come out.
This is not a typical “Women’s Murder Club” novel. The girls meet once, maybe twice. Yuki is in the story for about a chapter. Cindy has about three appearances. Claire is in a little more than the other two because she is the medical examiner, and let’s face it, bodies add up. But this story is more a murder investigation with Boxer and Conklin and an FBI investigation with Joe. The story starts 5 years ago, but the epilogue is current. Again, this was a good book, but not your typical Women’s Murder Club.
Womens Murder Club is one of my favorite series!
Good book
Awesome book
I loved this next book in this series. I love how this author is able to pull me right into his stories with ease and hold my attention until the end. This is one of my favorite series, I loved watching Lindsey and her friends grow throughout each book. I couldn’t put this book down once I started it with all the twists and turns. In this book, Lindsay and Joe both take on cases that just might collide with each other. I highly recommend reading this book, you don’t want to miss this one. A must read.
I love all the women’s murder club mystery book. I can’t put them down once I start reading them. A must read series.
Typical James Patterson! Hard to put down!
I really enjoyed the storyline. It’s main focus is of course the missing women. It shows what they would do to survive. This book is also a great thriller and dives a lot depth into wars and revenge. It may be fiction, but it’s also relatable to the men and women who serve their country.
Great book in true james Patterson fashion
I’ve been reading James Patterson for money yrs his books are always page turners
Love the Women’s Murder Club!
The last couple Women’s Murder Club books have gotten tired at best — the same trite formula and need to highlight a myriad of characters and not so engaging story. No so this one. It’s a flashback to a time before Lindsay and Joe needed the murder club to do their work for them, and such as so much better. Yes, I get that some people will not enjoy the lack of chronology, but this story is excellent. Lindsay is investigating the disappearance of 3 private school teachers who have vanished without a trace, and Joe gets involved in a case in which a Serbian refuge sees a war criminal living in San Francisco. When the cases intersect the two work together to solve the crimes. It’s a fascinating look at history of a war that is horrifying, and the atrocities that occurred, as well as what psychopathic criminals still believe they are entitled to when justice is not done. If you suspend your timeline and enjoy this for the story itself, which is engaging and horrifying all at once, you will not want to go back to the trite old formula.
I really believe that this book should have opened up with the current status after the 17th book; and then slipped into the past 5 years. Didn’t really enjoy this as much as the others in this series; main characters were only mentioned a little bit; isn’t this a Women’s Murder Club series? It is more like these authors intend to break up the group and have a Joe/Boxer series starting. Too bad after worrying about their daughter, Julie in previous book; nothing was even mentioned about the child at the beginning. Yes, they took you back 5 years but I believe it should have been better written about that at the beginning of the book for people like me who have purchased and read the entire series. After reading the short upcoming 19th Christmas (at the end of the 18th), I see they do in fact only mention that Boxer had been sick; nothing too much about Julie. Now I have to decide whether or not to purchase the 19th. My recommendation for people who have never read any of the series to go ahead and read this as you will enjoy it. For those who have read the series and have kept up with the characters in each of the books, skip this and move onto the 19th.
Love this series and January LaVoy
If you love action packed books this is a great series, and this book one of the best.
Great read. All previous 17 Murder Club books page turners.
Always enjoy Patterson’s Women’s Club Series.
Excellent! Another enthralling story full of twists and turns. Loved it!
A very dark story with lots of violence
