The international publishing sensation–over six million copies sold worldwide!
A reluctant centenarian much like Forrest Gump (if Gump were an explosives expert with a fondness for vodka) decides it’s not too late to start over . . .
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health, … in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested (and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant (not to mention a death by elephant).
It would be the adventure of a lifetime for anyone else, but Allan has a larger-than-life backstory: Not only has he witnessed some of the most important events of the twentieth century, but he has actually played a key role in them. Starting out in munitions as a boy, he somehow finds himself involved in many of the key explosions of the twentieth century and travels the world, sharing meals and more with everyone from Stalin, Churchill, and Truman to Mao, Franco, and de Gaulle. Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared has charmed readers across the world.

I’ve read this 3 times now. I love this world, these characters. Intricately plotted, hilarious scenes, brilliant characters. What’s not to love?
A whimsical romp through the eyes of a 100-year-old man who has definitely been around!
This book is different than any I have read in a long time. Reads like a historical comedy. Very good characters and the
story line keeps you reading.
The well written read compelled me to keep reading through a fantastical present day landscape of characters, and from the past a political landscape that gives a break to todays reality. The revelation of aging and giving history’s narrative a twist left me with new insights. Impressed. I rarely gravitate towards fiction.
One of the funniest books I’ve ever read
So preposterously funny!!
One of the most unusual books I’ve ever read.
Reminded me loosely of Forrest Gump with the ties to history.
As I grow older it gives me some ideas on how to handle it. When i turn 100 I’ll look for a window to go through.
Lots of fun to read. Reminds me of A Man Called Ove. I love original characters and surprising plots. Can’t wait to read the sequel.
Totally enjoyed this book. The 100 year old man is involved in every historical event. It is so cleverly written.
It started out pretty good but I lost interest about a third of the way through. Never finished it.
If you like a book that makes you laugh, you’ll love this one! Hilarious!
It was a pure delight. One of the more fun books I have read in a long time.
Hysterical! One of best books ever read!
What a great book! Picture if you will that Forest Gump was bright and born earlier and repeatedly played a role in the major world events in those eras. I admit I almost stopped at the beginning with the pee slippers, but as soon as he left the bus station and met the next character I was hooked. Enjoy the story and the ride!
A lot of nothing.
This story was very entertaining, albeit unbelievable. I will definitely read the next in the series.
It was a good book. It was like reading Forrest Gump but the World War II version.
You never knew what historical figure would show up next.
